Fund the Need... CHROMEBOOKS FOR “SUPER” STUDENTS

The cost of one Chromebook is $250. You may choose to buy one or several. Or you may purchase “shares” that, combined, will support our goal. Share options are: $50 (1 share), $100 (2 shares), $150 (3 shares), $200 (4 shares) and $250 (5 shares). When you buy shares, you are helping us to purchase a set of computers for each grade. Our goal is to raise enough funds to equip the school with 192 Chromebooks. You can either contact Sally Horner in Development if you are interested in purchasing shares, or we will have an oppurtunity for you to purchase them the night of Bird Bash.

Welcome to the Bird Bash at James River Day School! James River Day School cherishes and challenges children. We offer strong core academics in reading, writing, mathematics, history, and science, plus instruction in French and Spanish, visual arts, music, technology, library research, and physical education, from Kindergarten through eighth grade. We provide hands-on instruction in the science lab, greenhouse, and outdoor classroom. We are committed to teaching children how to be respectful, responsible, caring, fair, civic-minded, and trustworthy. Our program includes field trips, special programs and assemblies, clubs, class plays, musical ensembles, athletic teams, community service projects, public speaking opportunities, and the Cardinal Buddy mentoring program. Without the generosity of many supporters, James River would not be able to maintain the strength and excellence of our academic program. Our school makes decisions on what is best for the child, and flexible instruction that treats each learner as an individual requires small classes and welltrained teachers. Because we are an independent school, we raise the revenues we spend, primarily through tuition and charitable giving. Each year, our Cardinal Fund donors help us keep tuition as low as possible, without compromising our programs. We are extremely proud of the high participation levels in the Cardinal Fund, with 100% of our faculty, staff, and Trustees, and over 90% of our parents participating in the 2013 Cardinal Fund. We are on target to achieve these participation levels this year, and I encourage you to give to the Cardinal Fund if you have not already done so. Every other year, the Bird Bash auction proceeds give us additional opportunities to improve our school through the generosity of our families and friends. The Bird Bash proceeds this year will support improvements in technology for students and teachers. In our wired world, we are dedicated to ensuring that our students learn to use technology safely and effectively: for communication, presentation, and research. We are teaching students how to create multi-media presentations, how to research on line with a critical eye, and how to communicate safely and appropriately with both email and social networks. Additional revenue this year from the Bird Bash auction will allow us to increase the number of devices available to our students, thereby improving student access to technology significantly. On behalf of James River Day School, I extend our deep gratitude to the Bird Bash Committee and their many parent volunteers, to the sponsors of the auction, to auction donors, to the James River Day School Development Office, and to all who attend this fabulous party tonight. Your support and your gifts are appreciated by the faculty, staff, and trustees of the school, whose goal is to serve our students as well as we possibly can. Thank you for making it possible for children to receive a James River education! Sincerely, Mary Riser, Head of School

Bird Bash Auction Rules & Procedures General • • • • • • • • •

A signature or use of a bidding number for silent or live auction items constitutes a legal contract to buy. The highest bidder will pay for and remove that item from the building. All property must be removed the evening of the auction, unless prior arrangements have been made. Payment may be made by cash, check, Visa, MCard or Discover. All checks should be made payable to JRDS. Bidders are bound by any restrictions specified by the donor and terms are not negotiable. All sales are final. There will be no refunds or exchanges with merchants or donors. All items are sold “as is”. Values attributed to auction items have been determined by the donors and are not warranted by JRDS. Gift certificates may be redeemed for merchandise/services only and shall have no cash value. The buyer waives any claims for liability, including injuries or damages, against both James River Day School and the donor of the property or services. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items must be used by April 4, 2015 with dates and times to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and the buyer. Occupancy of vacation properties is not transferable. There may be no unchaperoned groups under 25 years of age.

Silent Auction • • • • • • •

The silent auction will begin approximately at 7:00 p.m. and close at 9:30 p.m. You may pay for your silent auction purchases in the field house lobby following the live auction. To bid on a silent auction item, please write your full name or bid number and the amount you are bidding on the bid sheet, which corresponds to that item. All bids must be raised by a minimum of $5.00. The highest bid at closing time will be circled by an auction committee member and will constitute a winning bid. All questions of procedure will be decided by an auction committee member, who will act as final authority on any questions which may arise. Should a discrepancy arise among bidders regarding the final bid, an auction official may request sealed bids to determine the winning bidder. If you are the winning bidder on a silent auction item, please leave the item on the table. An auction committee member will give you your item after you have checked out.

Live Auction • • • • • •

The live auction will begin approximately 8:45 p.m. Live auction items will be sold in order according to the live auction lists in this program. A bid is placed by raising your bid number or hand. Please do not try to be too discrete in indicating your bid. The auctioneer and spotters will make every attempt to recognize all bids. The winning bid will be determined by the auctioneer. You may pay for your purchases in the field house lobby once the live auction has concluded. If you are the winning bidder on a live auction item, please leave the item on the table. An auction committee member will give you your item after you have checked-out.

Thank you for abiding by the rules and procedures listed above!
