Education In 1990 the American government set out an act called the Americans with Disabilities Act. The goal of this act was to cut discrimination in schools for people with disabilities. To go on, on April 20, 1999 there was one of the deadliest school shootings ever that killed 15 people and left 23 wounded. From this incident schools tightened safety procedures. In 1994 the Clinton Administration required that every state receiving federal money for high poverty schools would begin testing in eighth through third grade yearly in math and reading. Also in 1994 President Clinton passed improving America’s school act which increased funds for immigrant education, technology and dropout prevention. To continue, in 1996 Clinton signed the Illegal Immigration & Immigrant Responsibility Act. This prohibits states from offering higher education on in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants. 1994 started the use of whiteboards which replaced blackboards. Also of the 40 million children in the U.S. in the 1990’s, thirty million were enrolled in public schools. Lastly, in 1993 Jones international University was the first school to go completely online which helped with kids who could not actually attend school.

Culture During the 1990’s people watched a lot of TV on the weekends, like the MTV’s and also the famous show Friends. There were also many sitcoms like Seinfeld and cheesy TV shows. People drank more coffee, smoked more cigars, and turned to gambling for money because people spent more, borrowed more, and became more in debt. During the decade people turned sought out spiritual direction for the uncertainties they had. New Age Spiritualism prospered in the 1990’s but when asked most people said that they were not apart of the movement. A big day for the decade was the MIllion Man March which brought almost one million African American to the Washington Mall in Washington D.C. The offices during the decade changed, people wore more casual clothes and by the end of the decade took it as a policy for work. Young People were into a new kind of rock music called grunge, people wore loose fitting jeans, old flannel shirts, and t-shirts. Others went to hip hop which grew even more after the decade. In the late 90’s it was cool to wear expensive clothing, name brand designers were back. Sports also became more popular throughout the decade and people enjoyed much more than before.
Government/Policies During the 1990’s the President of the United States was George H.W. Bush until 1993. The President after that was Bill Clinton. In August 1990 Iraqi president Saddam Hussein challenged U.S. interests in the Persian Gulf region when his troops invaded Iraq's neighbor Kuwait. The action taken is Bush mobilized forces and demanded Hussein to take his troops out of Kuwait. Bush seeked help from other allies and pushed into the Desert and Hussein pulled his forces and ended the Persian Gulf War. Some of the policies in the 1990’s were the U.S. Monetary Policy which analysed the degree of Chairman Alan Greenspan were responsible for the American economy's remarkable performance in the 1990s. Another policy in the 1990’s was the Trade Policy, this securely opened markets so that the United States would productively grow. The 1990’s was a prosperous decade for the United States, the unemployment rate was at 4 percent which almost seemed impossible to economists. There were many reasons why America was so successful in the 1990’s, this is because of globalization and deregulation.
Lance Armstrong won his first Tour De France in 1999. Before this, he fell ill and was diagnosed with testicular cancer which later spread to his lungs and brain. Domestic Policies During the 1990’s many new decisions were made to help America grow into a more prosperous nation. A big policy was the North American Free Trade Agreement. This reduced labor cost in the nation, so someone could build cars in Mexico and use Mexican labor and then sell them in the United States. Another objective of this policy was to liberate Canada, Mexico, of trade to stimulate economic growth. With the implementation of NAFTA quickly eliminated tariffs on more than one-half of Mexico's exports to the US and more than one-third of US. exports to Mexico. Another policy in the 1990’s was the Aid to Families with Dependent Children program, in which the government gave a grant to an individual state. If you were a legal immigrant you could not apply for welfare assistance for the first five years of your residency. The government was saying that you need to get a job and not just live off the government. Also during this time, President Clinton vowed to end exclusion of homosexuals in the military. But later on he had to table the policy and created a new one which said “don’t ask, don’t tell” which meant that military personnel would not ask the sexual orientation of the person and the person would not have to tell the military.
Domestic Policies There were many policies that Clinton did not make during his terms which affected the economy of the United States. Health care was a big problem for many Americans because it was not affordable, but Clinton did not realize this. If he did then he would have released a big drag on the economy. To fix this problem Clinton assigned his wife Hillary Clinton to take care of the matter which was a big mistake. Because many critics attacked Hillary during the assignment, also her unique relationship with the President meant that other advisers reacted to her differently than they would to any other leader. Other factors of this problem not succeeding was that Hillary wanted to present this policy to Congress as a finished package which meant that important participants in law-making must not be involved. Moreover, there were internal disagreements which also doomed the bill as a failure. The final product of the policy was very complicated and long. The entire policy was 1,350 pages long and not many people understood the policy. The President before Clinton, George H.W. Bush had many policies in the 1990’s. The American with Disabilities act banned employment discrimination to people with physical or mental problems. This also requires employers to accommodate for their disabled employee. This made people add ramps to buildings and braille to signs.

The novel Fight Club was written by Chuck Palahniuk. This novel was written in 1996. At first many people found it offensive because he impersonated others, but ended up seeing why he did it and loved the book. This book shows nobody's perfect.
It follows the unnamed protagonist struggling with insomnia. The protagonist works at a unnamed car company. (insomnia- difficulty sleeping) His doctor tells him that Insomnia is not suffering, the protagonist finds relief by impersonating a seriously ill person in several support groups. Then he meets a mysterious man named Tyler Durden and makes an underground fighting club. This club works as a therapy of some sort for him, although it does not help cure his disease it does ease the discomfort that comes with it. This is an excellent novel tat many people can relate to and it has a great plot. Since the protagonist is unnamed one puts oneself in their shoes but modifying the story to their situation. So, this books works as therapy for some. The book has a 4.2 out of 5 from goodreads.
Kids from the 90s grew up with the funnest food! For example, the heinz EZ-squirt was a mysterious bottle of ketchup and each one was a different color, purple ketchup, green ketchup. Totino's Pizza Rolls also came out in the 90s, it was a great snack on the go for pizza lovers. Kid Cuisine was a small lunchables like packaging but it had mac and cheese and hamburger, but all this had a twist it was cold. Most people from the 90s consider their food to be mostly cold. Another example of this were frozen corn dogs! 90s kids always had a way to cheer themselves up by eating smiley face fries! Dino nuggets also came out in the 90s and is still one of the top foods of today. Back in the day there was no need for fancy food with fancy recipes one simply had to pop open a can of spaghettios. Toaster Strudels were one of the most popular snacks in the 90s, one popped them in the microwave and you were done. 90s kids had great food! It was all fun and creative like the era of the 90s.
