is MWR's new school liaison, and is ready to help NASFW families with all their academic needs.

MWR is excited to announce the arrival of our new School Liaison, Heather Jaynes. In this role, she serves as the link between military families with school-aged children, the command, and local school districts. Heather brings to her new job more than 20 years of experience in CYP programs, having previously served the Navy as well as the Air Force and Marine Corps. She has worked at installations in Okinawa and Portugal, and most recently was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. A native of Texas, Heather has a degree in education with a specialization in special education. Although she has been at NASFW only a couple of months, she is quickly settling in to her new home. “Everyone on base has been welcoming to me,” she said. “People have been reaching out to make sure I have everything I need, and they’ve been very supportive.” In addition to helping service members, an important part of Heather’s work involves educating families about the benefits available to them. Many of these benefits are addressed in the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission, commonly known as MIC 3. “Some military parents aren’t aware of how we can advocate for them,” she said. “For example, when you go to enroll your son in high

school, they may tell you that some of his credits don’t transfer. But for military kids, that’s usually not correct. “Similarly, if your daughter has to miss the tryouts for a sports team because of deployment or relocation issues, the school is obligated to give her a chance to try out later. Part of our job is to work with the schools to ensure your children are treated fairly.”   Heather has been married for 26 years. Her husband, Clint, is the housing manager on base. They have two children, and the family enjoys traveling, camping, and relaxing in the pool. And clearly, Heather loves her work. “Even though most military families are quite familiar with relocations, it still can be very stressful,” she said. “I love being able to support them and help the transition go as smoothly as possible. And once they have arrived, we can help them with get settled in at the new school. Heather can be reached at 817-782-1873 or And even if you think you’re not needing her help now, you should take note of her contact info: You never know when you might need to call on her for support. “We know military families face unique challenges,” Heather said. “Whether it is an issue with relocation or education, I want them to know we are here for them.”
