Langley Research Center Alumni Association (LAA) Formed in 1987
Purpose • To maintain and enhance relationships among former civil service and contractor associate employees. • To provide a mechanism for the Center to engage with the Alumni to mutually benefit the Center and Alumni. • To promote STEM education. • To use alumni knowledge to assist current NASA research. Eligibility • All former NASA or Army civil service, and contractor employees of the Langley Research Center (LaRC) who have either retired or left employment in good standing. • Current NASA or Army civil service, and contractor employees of LaRC who are eligible to retire. • The surviving spouse of an individual who qualified for membership. Dues • Dues are $10 per year. For new members, the first calendar year is free. • $100 for Life Membership.
LAA Benefits Engage with other members and the Center • Members can maintain social contacts with other Alumni. • LAA provides a mechanism for the Center to interact with retirees. • Members can volunteer in special Center events, such as open house and visitor tours, employee mentoring and STEM education. Participate in Monthly meetings* • Held on the second Tuesday of each month at Noon in NACA room, B2102. Members gather at 11:30AM for lunch (bring your lunch or use the NASA cafeteria). • Provides opportunities to socialize and interact. • Enjoy presentations on past or ongoing NASA research and technology work, or other general topics that benefit members. • Special meetings are held in Summer (picnic) and Winter (Christmas luncheon). Attend Colloquia and Sigma Lectures • Presented in the LaRC Reid Center auditorium on the first Tuesday of each month. • The same or similar Sigma Series lecture delivered in the evening at the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton, VA. Special Activities NACA and NASA Hall of Honor (HoH) Honors the pioneers and significant contributors to LaRC over the years. The permanent display of the honorees can be viewed in the NACA Room of the Cafeteria.
Langley Retiree Knowledge Capture (LRKC) Facilitates sharing of the vast experience and expertise of retirees to benefit NASA employees at Langley and other NASA Centers. Local Tours Organized day tours to places that are enjoyable and informative to the members. Examples: Anheuser-Busch, Naval Base, Whale watching.
