Namibia’s Best Boerewors are fighting it out The regional round of the 2015 Shoprite and Checkers Namibian Champion Boerewors Competition kicks off at 8 o'clock on Saturday, 8 August at Affies Park at the Wanderers Sport Grounds and promises to be an exciting day for everyone present – competitors and spectators alike. While all the best boerewors makers in the country has again been rallied to enter this year's Shoprite and Checkers Namibian Champion Boerewors Competition, currently all boerewors lovers are turning their eyes to the elimination round of the competition. At this time the organisers and the NCA judges are gearing up to see the best boerewors legends in the country compete against each other for a place on the national boerewors throne. The qualification round consists of a process whereby every competitor presents their raw and braaied homemade boerewors to the judges, nine of the most respected food experts from the Namibian Chefs Association. The judges will measure each boerewors against the other competing entries on various points, including its meat content and the use of spices, the texture of the sausage and what it tastes like, raw and braaied. After careful consideration, the best are chosen. Along with the excitement of the actual boerewors judging, Shoprite and Checkers also went out of their way to ensure that everyone can have a great time with a DJ and music to entertain the crowd, a mechanical bull for all the boerie-brave, jumping castles for all the little legends and a beer tent to ensure that every spectator can enjoy a cold drink and a few boerewors rolls during the competition. To top it all of, later in the afternoon, while the smell of boerewors still lingers over Pioneers Park, the judges will announce the 10 finalists that will compete at the Hart van Windhoek music festival in September. The winner of this final round will be crowned as the best boerewors maker in Namibia and drive away in a brand new Toyota Hilux bakkie, while their recipe will be used by Shoprite and Checkers during next year as the recipe for the group's Namibian Champion Boerewors, available countrywide.
Note: The Shoprite and Checkers Namibian Champion Boerewors Competition was established in 2009 and takes place between March and July of every year. The competition was started to create a chance for boerewors makers throughout Namibia to measure their recipes against the best of the best. The competition is currently in its 7th year and has again managed to attract a record amount of entries. The final winning recipe will be announced at the Hart van Windhoek music festival. The competition webpage can be visited at www.namibianchampionboerewors.com. Enquiries: Rozanne van der Merwe Tel: 061 247 371 061 247 371
