6) Vehicular Access 3

The idea was to have every house have their own private green space, while they all surrounded the public space for an easy access to the communal area. With accordance to views the two houses to the North have focused views to the North, while still having ample views to the communal area. The same conceptual idea goes for the South houses.

Morristown Museum Morristown, New Jersey

Concept The concept of the proposal is the idea of extention of the old from the new, and using folding as the operation that activates the idea. The two ideas of extension come from the existing museum and activating the extension of the landscape from the west. Using the west side of the landscape came from the historical view of looking off the back porch of the original museum. The idea of the overall proposal is that the addition would sit away from the existing, but still have a relationship physically and visually. A transitional buffer zone is used that extends out away from the existing and then the folds for the museum program visually insist a continutaion up the building. For the landscape fold, it slips under the museum fold activating the landscape and bringing it up onto the fold and eventually up into the classroom program. In doing this there is a creation of new landscape above the existing landscape, thus creating new visual and physical relationships between the old and the new. Existing Transition

program gallery program

gallery gallery

Extension of the existing gallery is achieved through a transitional buffer zone followed by folds defining the gallery spaces. The folds allow for visual understanding of the extension and continuation of the galleries. The transition space goes along with the idea of seperating the old versus the new, but still having a physical and visual linking.
