alented chef Stuart O’Keeffe is cooking up a storm for celebrities including actor Dermot Mulroney and Supermodel Cindy Crawford. The Irishman now based in Los Angeles is the new cook on the block and his fabulous food has made it’s way onto the stars’ menu. From a young age he had an infectious affinity for cooking, learning everything he knows from his mother. In more recent years, he’s been further inspired by his travels throughout Europe. His single most important rule to cooking is using fresh and local ingredients, and that certainly comes across in his mouthwatering creations. With his first cookbook soon to be published and a new show on the horizon, we will be able to learn a few culinary tips and produce some of his great recipes in our own homes. Whip up a hearty Irish dish for St. Patrick’s Day!

What could be more delicious than Chef Stuart’s Famous Guinness Beef Short Ribs? Ingredients • 4 lbs. Boneless Short Ribs (cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces) • 3 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil • 1 Large Yellow Onion (diced) • 3 Cloves Garlic (minced) • 2 Carrots (diced) • 2 Celery Stalks (cut into 1/2 inch pieces) • 1 Can Guinness Beer • 2 Cups Low Sodium Beef Stock (divided) • Salt and pepper

Directions 1. Preheat oven to 380 degrees Fahrenheit. 2. Heat olive oil in Dutch oven. 3. Pan sear short ribs until nice and brown on both sides (about 5 minutes per side). 4. Remove meat from pan and set aside. 5. Sauté onions and garlic until lightly browned, scrape any brown bits from bottom of pan using a wooden spoon. 6. Add carrots and celery and let cook for 5 minutes. 7. Add 1 cup of beef stock and scrape bottom of pan to remove any more browned bits. 8. Add back in the meat followed by the remaining stock and can of Guinness. 9. Season with salt and pepper. 10. Bring stew to a simmer for 20 minutes, cover and place in oven and braise for 2 hours. 11. Remove short ribs from pan and serve.

What is your favorite food to eat? BBQ ribs…I just cant get enough of them. What is your favorite dish to make? 6 hour braised beef short rib. For our readers who cook at home often, what’s the best way to spice up an old recipe? Try finishing your dishes with maldon sea salt. This is a beautiful sea salt to use when finishing a dish and I feel that it elevates the flavor. What is one of your favorite ingredients to throw into a dish to give it that extra little desired taste? I tend to throw in some chili flakes or sugar into my dishes a lot. What has been one of your favorite meals? And where was it? (Or who had prepared it for you?) Rivabella, Los Angeles – it’s a new Italian restaurant in L.A. and the food is perfect every time. What is one of the most difficult meals to make? Beef wellington. I’m still trying to perfect it lol. What is your favorite dessert? Almond blueberry crostata with vanilla bean ice cream. What is a favorite dish among the celebrities you cook for? I love to make them a miso black cod. It’s light and really tasty. What is your own personal favorite dish of your creations? My short rib recipe. You can find it at What is your next goal when it comes to the culinary industry? To open a restaurant, have my own show, and to release a book next year.

Our fashion model and former Miss Germany 2009 Alyssandra Snows spills her secrets on how to look sexy and sensual.

1. Don’t over do it. It’s not about how much skin you show, it’s about showing off the right amount. Choose one body part you want to accentuate and work it.

2. Be casual and sexy. A perfect casual-but-sexy outfit is a white shirt paired with jeans. What’s the secret to making this look sexy? Add heels.

3. Less is more. Especially when it comes to make-up. Use Maybelline mascara or false lashes from MAC to show off those beautiful eyes. Use YSL Touch Eclat for dark circles under your eyes for a fresh look. For blush, I prefer to use MAC’s pink swoon for a rosy look. Top it off with Chanel’s 165 lip gloss and you are ready to go!

4. Dress well, inside and out.  Always match your bra and underwear together. Even if you don’t plan on showing it off, you’ll feel special and glamorous on the inside.

5. Smell like a rose. I believe that smell is very important. It inspires our mood and attitude. Find a perfume or cream that you absolutely love and wear the heck out of it. My favorite shimmering body milk is Insolence from Guerlain.

6.  Be confident. Be you. Don’t wear anything that doesn’t fit you just because it’s the hottest trend at the moment. The sexiest thing about a woman is her attitude and self-esteem. If you wear what’s comfortable to you, you’ll come out a star.

However, Rodeo Drive isn’t the only destination that will make a dent in your credit card. At Two Rodeo Drive, there are first-class restaurants where you can rest your Manolos after a day of shopping. Check out the seafood grill McCormick & Schmick’s and 208 Rodeo (a great spot for people watching). he iconic “Pink Palace” or Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows (9641 Sunset Blvd) has been steeped in Hollywood lore since 1912. Greta Garbo, Howard Hughes, and other movie industry stars kept out of the spotlight when staying at this pastel landmark. Indulge in a lunch at the Polo Lounge where film luminaries have struck movie deals and a stroll through the hotel’s neatly manicured grounds. The Bungalows are steeped in history, treating stars from Elizabeth Taylor to Marilyn Monroe.   The Beverly Wilshire (9500 Wilshire Blvd) is another Beverly Hills landmark made even more famous with a starring role in Pretty Woman. This is a great place within walking distance of Rodeo Drive. The Beverly Wilshire dates back to the 1920s with elegant ambience, sumptuous lobby with huge crystal chandelier, marble floors and soaring columns.   The beautiful L’Ermitage of Beverly Hills (9291 Burton Way) is a fantastic boutique hideaway oozing classy, understated luxury. Stay in Asian-inspired guest rooms with earthy furnishings and lattice partitions. Head to the rooftop pool retreat for panoramic views over the City of Angels or be pampered in the indulgent spa. What was the inspiration for your latest collection? The theme of my last collection was ‘shattered innocence’ - the shy vulnerability versus the desire to be set free was something I observed in many women and influenced my emotions at the time. The story of Le Marquis de Sade was particularly profound for me. I aimed to set these women free through the expression in my creations. Tell me more about the type of woman that you design for? The Chagoury woman exudes elegance. She is confident, strong and very sexy without compromising sophistication. What’s a real fashion faux pas? Fashion is not the same as style. Avoiding being true to one’s personal style is a major faux pas as is dressing for the sake of ‘fashion’.  Become your own icon! What is a must-have that can be used from the winter wardrobe for Spring? The Chagoury 16 panel pencil skirt in any color is a classic and a must-have.  And lace…always lace! What have been your favorite red carpet looks this season to date? Mine, naturally. However, if referring to my fellow designers, I would have to say Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera and Olivia Wilde in Gucci at the Golden Globes.

urniture diva to the stars Cindy Rocker has the most fabulous showroom at Diva Rocker Glam on the legendary Sunset Strip. Her unique style and great eye for beauty is demonstrated in her use of rich textiles, exotic surfaces and original designs which make her ‘brand’ so special and so desired. Custom-made and handcrafted furniture including her beds, which have been quoted as the “sexiest beds in LA,” have attracted star clientele including Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. Anything you desire can be turned into a reality.  Patent leather, wall murals and plenty of bling replace the stereotypical wallpaper and paint that may transform or brighten up a home. Glamorous furniture, lighting and accessories are key and what Cindy Rocker does best to create a wonderland of bedazzling charm.

Were you always interested in design? “No. Actually I became interested in design following a garage sale I had in Los Angeles. The sale was a huge success and everyone who attended asked that I come back to their home and place the pieces they bought. So I accidentally I became an interior designer.”  Your style has been described as Old Hollywood Glam. Do you see it that way? “Yes, with a splash of Rocker. My beds have been quoted as the “sexiest beds” in LA at Diva Rocker Glam”  You seem to like to make happy homes—what makes a home happy? “What makes anyone happy - beautiful things, exquisite furnishings all placed in spectacular order. My love for home-furnishing’s is truly rooted in making people LOVE their home and ultimately happy” Do you have any rules? “The customer is always right and never finish the job until it’s perfect.”

How has the economy affected your work? “It hasn’t really, I am so lucky. Plus, I can work within very tight budgets to create a fabulous outcome.”

Do clients comparison shop? “Yes, but they usually are sold on my southern charm and always return to Diva Rocker Glam” What inspires you today? “People that live ‘outside the box’ allow me the freedom to unbridle my imagination”  You have a beautiful store, how often do you have photoshoots and events?  “I am asked everyday, but have become more and more selective as they tend to be over the top like my furniture. The Naluda Magazine / Chagoury shoot was so beautiful and professionally done I was simply thrilled to have it in my store.“ You’re known for celebrity homes, can you share some of your high-profile clients with our readers?  “Of course, Cee Lo Green, Miley Cyrus, Steven Tyler, Kristin Chenoweth, Paris Hilton, Rihanna, Nicole Murphy, Jessica Canseco and so many more it’s tough to name.”  What was your most unusual job / request?  “Cee Lo brought in a small art picture and wanted it to become a 25 x 25 mural in his home in downtown LA, that was a feat.”

f you’re in Beverly Hills, shop till you drop on Rodeo Drive’s “Walk Of Style” before making your way to the only hotel on the world famous street - the Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel. eal Housewife of Beverly Hills Joyce Giraud is certainly keeping us all glued to the reality series. There are catfights galore, nasty confrontations – you name it, we love it. From growing up in a little town in Puerto Rico to now being firmly in the spotlight as one the show’s biggest stars, the former Miss Puerto Rico feels blessed and she’s not taking anything for granted. As well as being a loving wife and mother of two beautiful boys, Joyce has created her own pageant: “Queen of the Universe” and is a top prolific fundraiser. Is there anything this woman can’t do?

What was life like growing up in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico? Aguas Buenas is a little town in the mountains of Puerto Rico and I’m extremely honored and proud to call it home. Growing up in Puerto Rico was the biggest blessing! I have a very big family, so life was one big party. Even though many would’ve considered us “poor,” I felt extremely rich because I had all the love in the world and that’s what matters. My mother taught my brother and myself amazing values and that respect is the key to any relationship. She also raised us going to church and I remember one of my favorite things was family day after church on Sunday, no ifs, ands, or butts. We would all go to a restaurant and eat together. It is a memory I will always cherish.  After I grew up, I felt an incredible sense of pride being from my little Puerto Rico. I have been blessed to travel the world, but my favorite place will ALWAYS be Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is definitely the best of both worlds. We have everything you can think of, but what makes us special is our people. The warmth you feel from everyone is incredible. Everyone is very welcoming and loving. I guess we all see life as a big gift so we don’t take it for granted and we love to enjoy each moment. By the age of 19, you had completed two B.A. Degrees, that is a great achievement. What was it you wanted to be when you grew up? I studied Social Work and Special Education. I finished both degrees by the time I was 19. Social Work is something I use on a daily basis no matter what path life has taken me in.  You have multiple pageant titles to your name, including Miss Universe Puerto Rico. How did you get into the Beauty Pageant industry and how has it affected your career? I was “discovered” in Puerto Rico while I was working at a drive-through at KFC. Then, I started modeling and was able to pay for my university studies with the income that modeling generated, becoming one of the Top Models of Puerto Rico. Then one thing led to the next. In Puerto Rico, as in all the Latin countries, pageants are a big deal. I wasn’t the type of girl that dreamed it her whole life,  for me it just happened. I guess I was lucky and blessed. I do think pageants are a powerful platform and give you a great voice. It’s up to you whether you use that voice to do amazing things or you simply prove the typical stigma about beauty queens having no substance. I made the choice of using those titles to work on my charities and help others. It was for sure my favorite thing to do. When you could go and make someone that has been in a hospital smile just by being there, or when you can go to schools and speak to the youth about your experience and have them listen is priceless. That was the most rewarding thing of any of the pageants did. The most overwhelming and beautiful experience was being called Miss Puerto Rico. To represent the Island where I was born, my people, and my culture is something I will think about and treasure even when I’m on my death bed. It’s such a pride and joy that I’m short of words to express it.

Tell us more about “Queen of the Universe.” I thought pageants were very different than what they really are. That is why I decided to make my own pageant called “Queen of the Universe”. I wanted a pageant that doesn’t judge women based on their circumstances in life. The most important thing is that they all must have a charity-based platform.

“Queen of the Universe” is a pageant I created in which I changed all the rules and the things I didn’t like about all the other pageants I competed in. If a woman had a baby at a young age, why would she not be allowed to represent her county? A baby is the biggest blessing in the world. Or if a woman is married or divorced or has a particular gender choice etc. I think these are all things that woman should never be judged on, but sadly, many pageants are stuck in the past. Women come in all shapes and forms and I hated how the girls had to be super skinny or a certain height in all the other pageants. To me, all those things were ridiculous so I changed the rules and added the most important rule. The only thing that is VERY important is that all the girls must have a charity-based platform or a charity ambition because at the end of the day, that is what matters the most.

I do the pageant to give these wonderful women a platform and use my charity to benefit the UNESCO foundation for children in need. We complain a lot about our education system in America, but at least we have one. There are places in the world where education is two people under a little tree trying to read a book. It is unfathomable to me! I know it sounds cliché, but the reality is children are our future. If we don’t give them the proper tools, how do we expect them to have a better future? I firmly believe that it’s our social responsibility to give our children the tools they need, and those tools are education. My mother-in-law has dedicated her life to do this and with her UNESCO foundation for children in need, she has built almost 500 schools worldwide in places that don’t have access to education. I want to continue her legacy.  You have recently served as executive producer for the television series Siberia, working alongside your husband, Michael Ohoven. Is working together something you enjoy? Lots of people tell me they don’t know how we can be together all the time, but the reality is I LOVE working with my husband. I am blessed to say that I married my best friend and my soul mate. When you are lucky enough to be with that person you love day and night, you see it as a blessing.

“I love being with my family, taking baths & watching movies”

You have joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for the 4th Season. What is it like to be working alongside such feisty, strong-minded women? It was quite an experience. I wish they were all strong and feisty. That I can respect and deal with any day; what I don’t respect is the backstabbers who try to play the victim any chance that they can.  How do you handle all the conflicts with the other Housewives? Do you find it hard to bite your tongue at times? I do. I always speak my mind so it is very hard to stay quiet and let go of certain things.

As a busy working mother of two beautiful children how do you find the time to stay in such great shape? I am not one of those hardcore working out girls. I have a lot of friends that work out like crazy, but I’ve never been the type. I have taken up hiking and I love to go with my husband. It gives us time to talk about our day so I love it, but I think my main workout is having to run after my two title boys. That is a work out!

Your hair is amazing! Have to ask, is it all real? What are your secrets to keeping it so beautiful?

What’s next in the pipeline for Joyce Giraud for us to look forward to?

Thank you, it is real. It’s funny because I’ll be at the grocery store and someone will come up to me and just touch my hair to see if there are any extensions in there. It cracks me up every time. I have two secrets that I live by: one is a mask that my grandmother taught me how to do and the other is that I wash my hair only once a week. I tell all my girlfriends and the ones who have tried it love their hair and see the difference fairly quick.

Right now I am focused on the “Queen of the Universe.” I am also producing a couple of movies with my husband, working on a nail polish line and most importantly, I’m a mommy :)

What do you like to do to relax and unwind? I love being with my family, taking baths and watching movies.

Do you have anything else you would like to share with our readers? I just want to thank everyone for all the love and support. It really means the world to me.

Behind the Scenes with

celeb stylist

Always well dressed, never depressed, and a little stressed… When it comes to celebrity fashion shoots, it’s always a hectic experience for everyone involved. Our March 2014 Fashion Shoot involved various members of the Naluda staff, numerous coffee runs, and a lot of help from celebrity stylists. We were pleased to have a lovely team working on the shoot including model Alyssandra Snows, celebrity hair stylist Sabrina Sanchez, celebrity make-up artist Angel Merino, stylist Chelsea Von Mach, and our very own celebrity fashion stylist Daniel Musto. ALYSSANDRA SNOWS

Daniel Musto is known for his expertise in the fashion world. At the young age of 28, Musto has styled various celebrities such as Kendra Wilkinson, Paula Abdul, Paris Hilton, Ashlee Simpson, and Jenny McCarthy. He’s worked on runway productions for Vogue, John Varvatos, Jessica Simpson, and Nicole Richie. He also stars in the popular YouTube show, “The Stylish.” Musto is also a television personality and creative director. Lots of people know how to dress themselves, but not everyone knows how to dress themselves well. That’s where Daniel steps in. On our March shoot, he was able to make our lovely model Alyssandra look and feel her best. Chelsea Von Mach works for Daniel and was helpful in assisting with outfit changes and wardrobe. “Everyone thinks being a stylist is such a glamorous job, and it’s so not. It’s lots of schlepping, sleepless nights, and 14hour days. You have to really love and be passionate about it, or you won’t survive,” says Chelsea. With a little sweat, hard work, and some tears; the shoot was a beautiful success. If you missed it, turn to page 10 to see!

ou don’t have to live in Beverly Hills or hire a celebrity personal trainer to obtain a Beverly Hills “hot body.” Famous celebrity fitness trainers will attest to the fact that their clients achieve beautiful, fit bodies only through daily workout programs, commitment, perseverance, and dedication to healthy food choices. Not everyone can afford to hire a celebrity fitness trainer to design his or her workouts. Nor can everyone afford to hire a famous, top chef to prepare healthy, delicious meals daily, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have the tools to get your body into celebrity, hot shape. Thanks to the Internet and interactive media, everyone can learn from the pros! Famous celebrity fitness trainers are now sharing their “secret programs” with anyone who wants to learn. We may not get celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels to stand beside us while we belt out 50 crunches, but what we do have is complete access to Jillian’s fit body “secrets.” Want Jillian’s rock solid abs? Then Google “How to.” It’s that simple! It took just a few keystrokes on my laptop and now I have four new, amazing “celebrity” moves to add to my fitness routines:   • Side plank with alternating leg • Triangle Press • Uneven arm hold with arm fly • Superman roll into pike crunch      These compound movements are intense! The reason they work is because they aren’t simply basic crunches. Each exercise employs full body movement while targeting the abdominals. Jillian is a proven fitness professional. Now, my clients are seeing even more amazing results! (Thanks to Jillian and Google!)   The key to achieving your health and fitness goals is the same for you as it is for famous celebrities like Sophia Vergara and Matt Damon. You are no different and your body sweats the same as theirs. All it takes is dedication to a proper daily workout program, healthy eating habits, and access to resources that will show you how. You can easily Google hundreds of credible online resources for more healthful diet tips. However, be sure to steer clear of quick fix supplements, diet pills, and gimmicks. Just because a celebrity endorses a product doesn’t mean the product is good for you and that doesn’t mean it necessarily works!     Just as you do not need a celebrity personal trainer by your side to achieve a Hollywood-fit body, you do not need a celebrity chef in your kitchen in order for you to make healthy eating choices (although it sure would be nice, right?).   If you want to achieve healthy hair, skin, nails, and a lean body like Reality TV Star Joyce, from “Beverly Hills Housewives,” then start by following these simple rules: 1.  Drink plenty of water 2.  Get plenty of rest 3.  Eat lean protein and lots of greens 4.  Avoid alcohol 5.  Avoid starch and sugars 6.  Exercise daily 7.  Commit to a dedicated fitness and eating program for the long haul

Start with these basic seven rules to kick-start your way to “celebrity beautiful,” then use your resources to learn more.     Google your way to feeling fabulous and have fun with it. Check out the many exercise apps celebrities are using to stay in shape and download your app of choice. MapMyRun is one of my favorites because it tracks my route and calculates distance. Calorie counting apps are also helpful. Nowadays, you can find anything online. If it’s accurate, healthy, and motivating, then check it out! Using the Internet, you can find out: how an actress achieved her fit body for a movie role, what the healthiest green foods are to eat, how many calories you need to burn, what Gwyneth Paltrow eats for lunch, and how to maintain younger looking skin. I like to search for healthy smoothie recipes using my Vitamix. Here is one of my all-time favorites:  1 cup of organic kale 1 cup of organic spinach 1 cup of organic chard 1/2 frozen banana 1/4 cup organic blueberries 1/4 cup organic cherries 2 cups coconut water 1 tablespoon collagen 1 tablespoon flaxseed oil Sprinkle chia seeds

It’s delicious!   It’s time to stop watching famous people look fabulous and time to start producing your own Hollywood Superstar program. Use the resources you have at your fingertips to achieve your Oscar-winning look. Don’t hesitate to pick up your laptop, computer, or iPad and use your favorite search engine to find reputable resources for beauty, health, and fitness ideas.  Your goals take hard work and dedication. There are no quick fixes when it comes to a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Last of all, always remember: you have all the resources at the touch of your fingertips.

“Joe the Juicer” is more than just a nickname. Filmmaker Joe Cross is living proof that juicing can transform your life. Born in Australia, a place he regards as: “one of the best places to live,” he had always been active, fit, and full of energy, but he did not watch his diet. On the eve of his 40th birthday, Cross looked in the mirror and realized something needed to change. Throughout his 20’s and 30’s, Joe lived a life of fast cars, fast food, and weighed in at 141kilos/309lbs at his heaviest. He was massively overweight and began suffering from an excruciatingly painful autoimmune disease called urticaria.   Contemplating how he got to this state, he knew deep down it was the junk food, booze, late nights and partying, but just how just how was he going to change all that?   Then the saying “you are what you eat” dawned on him. Joe set his mind on healing his body and regaining his health the best way he knew how. This meant consuming the plantbased foods our bodies are designed to ingest. He bid farewell to the burgers and junk food and said HELLO to only the freshest juice from fruits and vegetables. He would consume these juice meals for 60 days and gradually start reintroducing food into his diet (of a healthy nature of course). He created the moving documentary Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead to highlight his journey with the aim to help and encourage other people with similar problems.   We were so inspired by Joe’s story we had to find out more about his remarkable transformation. What does it entail? Can anyone accomplish this transformation?

Tell us all, exactly what is a reboot? Is it a fixed amount of days? Can anyone do it? We are excited to learn from you. A Reboot is a period of time – 3, 5, 10, 15, 30 days (the length of your Reboot depends on your personal goals and how far you have to go to reach them) – you commit to consuming only fruit and vegetable juices to ultimately help you break a cycle of an unhealthy lifestyle and enhance the quality of your diet by increasing your intake of micronutrients. Drinking fruits and veggies is like drinking liquid sunshine – it gives you heaps of natural energy and plant-powered nutrients. When you consume only juice, your system is flooded with an abundance of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients that help your body stay strong and vibrant. It provides a way to access digestive enzymes typically locked away in the fiber matrix of whole fruits and vegetables. Almost everyone can attempt a reboot, with the exception of any ladies who are pregnant or nursing. If someone decides to Reboot longer than 15 days, I encourage them to check with their doctor first. Do you create your own recipes and do you have a favorite? In the beginning I was creating a lot of my own recipes because I wanted to find juices I enjoyed. If I was going to be doing this for 60 days and then continue to juice in addition to a healthy diet, I wanted to like what I was putting into my body! Now we have hundreds of recipes on Some I created and others are from my team, but they are all excellent juices. I also have my 101 Juice Recipes book and iPhone app that are great resources for access to juice recipes that were handpicked and selected by me and my team – so I can assure you, they taste good! My favorite combination is my Mean Green Juice. It’s the juice that got me through my 60 Day Reboot. It’s 1 cucumber, 4 celery stalks, 2 apples, 6-8 kale leaves, ½ lemon and a 2.5 cm. piece of ginger. It’s still my favorite juice to this day.   What was the most difficult hurdle for you during your 60 day juice fast? Some of those early days looked challenging? Days 2 and 3 were really tough. I was lethargic, my head was pounding and I was questioning myself. What had I gotten myself into? All I wanted to do was stay in bed. Knowing what is transpiring physically during a juice cleanse, it makes complete sense that when you are going to feel that the whole thing is very isolating. It’s extremely physically and psychologically challenging when you first start out. When you embark on a juice Reboot, you are super-charging your body’s healing process, which is initially one of the toughest things about it. Sometimes this will show up in the form of headaches, cold, or flu-like symptoms, coughing, bloating, fatigue, skin irritations or breakouts, etc. I experienced everything on the list.   What is the average cost per day to someone starting a juice fast? This is a tough one because it varies greatly on a number of circumstances. Are you buying organic? Are you at the grocery store or a farmers market? Are you buying fruits and veggies that are out of season? All of these factors can result in a big difference in your bill. On average, I believe you will spend anywhere from $25 - $40 in one day. How did you go about introducing food back into your diet following your juice fast? Continuing to consume juices on a regular basis will help sustain the amazing benefits you’ve just rewarded your body after a Reboot. You’ll notice that your

body will start to crave juice because it feels energized and powered by all the liquid sunshine you’ve just consumed for a period of time. When you reintroduce food back into your body, do it slowly. Stick to only fruits and veggies the first few days and then gradually start to add in more whole foods like nuts, beans, and seeds, and eventually add in the foods your body enjoys eating. You’ll notice you may not want to eat that burger and fries and if you do, you might feel like rubbish. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!   I continued to drink a ton of juice not only because that’s what I had been used to for the past 60 days, but because that’s what my body was craving. For me personally, I was determined to completely go off my prednisone. For another 3 months, I only ate and drank fruits and vegetables because that was what I needed to get to 0g of Prednisone, and it worked.   What does an average meal plan for the day, including juice, look like for you? I drink juice every day, I eat tons of fruits and vegetables, and I eat mostly plant-based foods. For dinner, I’ll enjoy grass-fed beef on occasion or wild fish and I always load my plate with lots of vegetables. I’m not perfect, I still enjoy my favorite chocolate ice cream and a burger here and there, but 80% of the time, I eat a well-balanced, highnutrient diet. What are the best ingredients for a balanced diet whilst juicing? My theory is pretty simple I reckon. You don’t need to label how you eat – vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, paleo, etc., just eat and drink more fruits and vegetables, consume lots of nuts, beans, and seeds. If you decide to eat animal products like I do, make sure it’s grass-fed, free-range, organic, and/or wild, and enjoy those in moderation.   You look amazing. You are living proof that juicing has had a positive effect on both your weight and health issues. Have there been any other benefits i.e. mentally or emotionally? What was the biggest change of all for you? Thank you! The end of my 60 day juice-only Reboot was just the beginning for me. Once I made it through the first few days, my mind became astonishingly clearer and I began to plan how I would move forward from there. The Reboot returned me to the driver’s seat and in control of my lifestyle. It made me the CEO, the VP and the president of my own health, and it has changed my life forever. I still juice every single day, I’m able to make much better food choices and I have a smaller physique that doesn’t have people asking me when the twins are due. I enjoy exercise, I’m no longer taking any medications, my mind is clearer, and I’m overall a happier, healthier person.   Do you have any tips or words of inspiration for our readers on rebooting and making juicing a part of their lives? Consuming vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans and seeds can have a radically positive effect on your health and well-being. The typical American plate is only 5% fruit and veggies. I encourage people to move the dial and increase their consumption of vegetables and fruits. I reckon that juicing is a great way to supercharge your body with the incredible nutrients found in whole plant foods and the volume you’re able to take in when juicing is far more than you would be able to eat. It’s a great way to move that dial, and as that happens, your body

What is next on the list for Joe Cross and what are your future goals? I’m super excited about 2014. This January and February my new book, The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet, is available for purchase. It’s already available in the UK and

Australia and will be available in the US and Canada in the first week of February. The book is filled with tons of information about juicing, reboot plans with detailed shopping lists, my favorite recipes, and everything to help you feel and look amazing. That will be keeping me busy because I’m traveling the world to meet more people, sign books and answer questions during a book tour. Towards the middle of the year we’ll be releasing our second movie. Lots to look forward to so stay tuned! starts to return to its natural healthy state. You actually begin to crave the good stuff and stop hankering after processed foods. The minute you start to feel sincerely well – not like the momentary euphoria you might experience as a junk food high – it gets easier and easier to choose whole, natural foods.   Now that said, I do believe in moderation, and I know that a lot of life’s great moments involve foods that aren’t whole plant foods. I reckon that life is to be enjoyed – and I think sometimes that means a piece of wedding cake, or a Thanksgiving dinner with the trimmings, or a glass of champagne at New Year’s. But if your daily life includes lots of fruits, veggies, nuts, beans and seeds, you can enjoy those occasional indulgences and still maintain your health and vitality.

ith his larger than life personality, career spanning more than two decades and familiar sound that blends hip-hop, house, and rock-electro music, DJ Skribble has certainly held his own in the music business. He selflessly shares his wisdom, helps the careers of countless musicians worldwide, and is continuously working with emerging artists to help them find their own niche in this hardcore industry. His collaborations with established artists include P. Diddy, Taio Cruz, Missy Elliot and former Spice Girl Mel B have only added to his golden list of accomplishments. His enthusiasm and talent have made him a star on the screen as well, appearing in a collection of music videos, multiple TV series and movies. He has also worked extensively with the likes of the NFL , NBA , Playboy , Disney and Sony . Ranked as one of the world’s top DJ’s, he has begun collaborating with filmmakers to produce scores for film. However, he’s never far from his beloved craft. TM

The charity is in the concept stages and not fully operating yet. Will keep you updated. We are loving the new Mel B collaboration! How did this dream team start?

Where did you get the idea to have a DJ class? How has that gone so far? It looks like so much fun!

You also have an amazing DJ Charity as an after school program in NY. Can you tell us about that? Where can people find this after school event?

Teaching the art of DJ’ing the right way is something I always wanted to do. I wanted to give kids something positive to do and succeed at it. I’m hosting a workshop in September in Las Vegas at the convention center and the age ranges from young kids to adults.

The song is out and available on iTunes at number 5 on the billboard Charts. This all came about because I know Mel’s husband and he asked if my brother and I could do a remix. A few others like Paul Oakenfold and Sidney Sampson etc. did a remix as well. I’m very pleased that ours did really well. When you started as a DJ in the 80’s did you think your career was going to take you to this level? You are worldrenowned for your mixing and collaborations. Never in a million years. Living the dream day in and day out is a blessing.

DJ Times magazine ranked DJ Skribble #3 on the list of the world’s top DJ’s. How does that feel? It’s an amazing accomplishment. Getting the respect from the dance music and hip-hop community is a dream come true. The hours spent, the grind, makes it all worth it. You have worked with so many famous artists over the years. Who was one of your favorites? That is a tough one but Pink, Missy Elliot, Tommy Lee, Dave Navarro, and Public Enemy are some of my favorites. My original crew taught me the ropes and the game of this industry. Do you have any words of encouragement to those who are trying to make it in this industry? The only thing I can say is don’t get into it for the money, but simply because you love the music. Respect the culture and the people that have come before you; have thick skin. With so many DJ’s now, you have to see outside the box and make yourself multifaceted. Can you give us a funny situation that has happened to you while DJ’ing at an event? I knocked my turn tables off while doing a trick.

What would be one interesting fact that your fans do not know about you?

What is next for DJ Skribble, what events do you have coming up?

I love Doo-Wop music. I’m definitely into decorating with the family for the holidays — like Clark Grizwald from Christmas Vacation. I co-own a custom turntable company called

Scottsdale, Arizona, Las Vegas, Keystone, Arizona and San Diego.

How does romantic life fit in with a DJ’s lifestyle? I have been married 11 wonderful years with 3 wonderful kids. You have seen and done many things while DJ’ing, what would be your dream event to DJ if you could? Headlining Madison Square Garden. I have just recently played there as one of the acts but I’d LOVE to headline!

Keepin’ it real on & off the air

“There’s no crying in radio,” said Yesi Ortiz, one of the hottest radio personalities known today. As an assistant music director for Power 106, she has been proclaimed the “Voice of L.A.” Ortiz entertains L.A. listeners from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during weekdays with features from DJ’s such as DJ Reflex and DJ Felli Fel. “Every day is different and exciting. It can change in an instant,” said Ortiz. With a radio job, sometimes you can start the day thinking you’ll be off by 7 p.m., and not reach the comfort of your own home until 1 a.m. “That’s why my car is a closet,” said Ortiz. Although the job can be difficult, Ortiz enjoys what she does. “The simple knowledge that I can bring a smile to someone’s face is one of the many things that’s incredible to me.” As the only girl tough enough to rough it out in a studio full of guys, Ortiz is able to hold her own. Her advice? Have thick skin and always remember to be a lady. “The guys are great though. They tease a lot and have no filter on their mouths, but I bite back when I need to,” said Ortiz. Ortiz has met and interviewed many celebrities being on the show. One of the standout interviews she had was with Pharrell; they even talked in the studio for an hour off the air. “His way of thinking is out of this world, and you get sucked in with his knowledge,” said Ortiz.

When Ortiz isn’t busy interviewing today’s most popular celebs or making mixes for the show, she still finds time to work out during the week. “I work out three times a week with a personal trainer. I try and stay active because I really love food! I’m up at 5:45 a.m. and I eat healthy.” Ortiz is also known for her sexy L.A. style. “I love the classy yet sexy look, with a bit of an edge. [I like to] keep the men wondering what’s underneath and tease a bit. It’s got to be the last name Ortiz, or should I say, ‘Or-TEASE.’” At the end of the day, Ortiz is just like us, who enjoys her life and just wants a little time to herself at the end of the day to spend some time with her kids. The only difference is that she shares her voice with all of L.A. 5 days out of the week. What’s Ortiz’s favorite part of her job? “Being at the forefront of music history… that’s legendary.”

A League of Her Own

he hip-hop community has a new star on the rise—recording artist Mik Brown. Her love of international dance music and hip-hop comes across in her sassy tracks such as “Let’s Werk,” which is an undeniably catchy tune. A young Missy Elliot comes to mind when she struts her stuff with plenty of attitude. Mik has performed at LA’s hottest clubs including the Viper Room, Las Palmas, and Red Zebra, gaining a huge following. Between the pre-production of her next video “respect” in the works, her new album “Miss Mik” soon to be released, and acting and modeling work, there is no rest for this sucess-driven star.

When does the Respect Video come out?

Any shows coming up?

We are finishing up the final edit now. It is expected to premiere at my listening party later this month!

I will be performing at my listening party which should be taking place later this month! We are also working on a touring schedule for the spring. All dates and details will be listed on my website.

Tell us about your debut album “Miss Mik” and when we can expect it to be out.

How do you like living in LA? I’m so incredibly proud of this project. I wrote every song and worked with my producer D’Andre PoPo Smith on concepts for the tracks. It’s a body of work that really represents me as an artist. I consider myself a poet and a writer before anything so I would definitely say it’s lyrical. Working with Genius Music while writing and recording this album gave me a new perspective on songwriting and song structure. There are 10 songs but each one is different so I give you a variety of electronic, dance/pop and some edgy/rock inspired tracks. For me, the most important thing is the quality of the message. I don’t feel that there is a voice in hip-hop right now representing the reality or mentality of a real lady. The most important thing I’ve learned is to stay positive and take a stand. I’m human and I have emotions so how that is expressed changes which gives you the vibes for each song. Overall I would say it’s something unique and special that deserves as much attention and recognition as everything else out there - if not more. I like to make music that is fun and empowering and I’m really excited to share “Miss Mik!” You can expect it to be available in just a few weeks! How would you describe your music? Timeless, edgy, upbeat and inspiring hip-hop/dance music. Who is your music ICON and why? I really look up to celebrities like Queen Latifah, Jennifer Lopez & Will Smith who have been able to transcend all aspects of the entertainment industry from music to TV/movies, Fashion and more, with long-standing careers. Any collaborations planned? I am definitely looking forward to a Macklemore collaboration. He’s a busy guy so we’ll see when it happens! What is coming up next for Mik Brown? Releasing my music video for Respect, releasing my album “Miss Mik”, performing at my listening party, touring and more music! I look forward to seeing what other great things the future holds! When was your first rapping debut? August 2010 was the first time I performed my original music at a public event - “Red Zebra” - hosted by Robert Vargas at the Crocker Club. That was a fun night!

I love it! I feel like here, anything is possible. Plus you can’t beat the weather! What do you do in your free time? I like to read, spend time with my pets and do outdoor activities like going to the beach or hiking. I love food and I’m a great cook so trying a new recipe or eating out is always fun. It’s also great to just hang with good friends and talk or watch movies.

Bentley Continental GT V8 S The Object of Envy

he Bentley Continental GT V8 S is an automobile for the discerning luxury car buyer who wants that extra, inexplicable something. The standard Continental GT V8 is impressive enough in its own sleek, rakish skin. Both V8 GTs stand, quite ably indeed, in the shadows of the V12 flagship in the Continental lineup. The case may be that the V8s are more “sensible,” but of course, that is a negligible concern in the world of luxury cars. The V8 S is quicker, less costly, and no less desirable as its top stable mate. Moreover, the S model is quite simply snappier than the standard GT V8. The S model is, as one might expect, sporty. The GT V8 S is a car that Bentley has declared both usable (as a daily driver) and potent (as a high-performance power symbol). That is a tough bill to fill, but there is surely something special about the Continental GT V8 S.

in the wake of Bavarian overtaking. While one can no longer rightly tell if Detroit is copying Rolls, or if Rolls is copying Detroit, Bentley remains the object of envy for lover of British motoring the world over. Even still, the V8 S’s 4.0-liter engine is an Audi design. The German-engineered engine mates with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The GT V8 S exceeds the 500 horsepower found in the standard GT V8 by 21 horses. That amounts to a top speed of 192 miles per hour for the GT V8 S (compared with 188 miles per hour for the standard model). The GT V8 S reaches 60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds. It does this based on strength alone, as it shares the exact same dimensions and curb weight as the standard GT V8.

British by Birth (Bavarian by Design)

Oddly enough, the V8 S, ostensibly created to reach a new market of those not wanting to spend V12 money, veers remarkably close to the twelve-cylinder GT’s performance marks. The high-end GT does 197 miles per hour, scarcely more than the GT V8 S’s 192, and both cars are roughly the same speed from a standstill.

The Bentley Continental has always occupied the rather narrow niche that exists somewhere between the stately elegance of Rolls Royce and the charming brutality of Aston Martin. Bentley and Rolls Royce were once closely related partners but have since split. Bentley is now under ownership by Volkswagen, and Rolls Royce is under the thumb of BMW. Through it all, Bentley has remained certifiably British, even

As far as the GT V8 S’s obvious class competitors, the similarly priced Aston Martin DB9 will reach 60 miles per hour in a slightly more sluggish 4.6 seconds, even with its twelvecylinder engine. From zero to sixty, the Porsche 911 Turbo S will leave the GT V8 S in its dust in just 2.9 seconds while the respectable Ferrari California makes its mark at 3.9 seconds.

Here is a look at what makes Bentley’s sportiest coupe such an object of envy.

By Todd Spear

Of course, to talk of those cars in the same breath as the Bentley Continental GT V8 is to speak of different tools for different purposes. The World Inside Inside its cabin, Bentley arguably trumps them all. No other maker imparts quite the level of expertise and artisanship into its interiors. The buttery-feeling leathers are stitched perfectly, looking like the work of a machine rather than handmade. Every detail is customizable to suit the buyer’s liking. Bentley is one of the few car manufacturers around that still uses real materials in its interiors: real wood, real chrome, and real hides. These elements are nestled alongside modern amenities, such as satellite navigation powered by Google Maps, DVD playback, eight inch LCD touchscreen and optional Naim sound system. The much talked about Mulliner options package adds knurled metals, quilted leathers, and lambs-wool carpets to the already lavish interior. Given the savings over purchasing the W12, shoppers are wise to invest in the Mulliner options package which makes the GT V8 S visually indistinguishable from the top-of-theline Bentley coupe.

The GT V8 S Experience The GT V8 S’s ride is very comfortable thanks to Bentley’s trimode ride control, dubbed CDC (Continuous Damping Control) and its able brakes, which are even more commanding with an optional carbon fiber upgrade. The handling is responsive and sharp, hugging curves admirably. The steering is stiffer (and somewhat less fun as a result) than that of a 911, but the precision and control offered in the GT V8 S really makes it a world glass “grand touring car,” just as one might expect. The all-wheel drive system displaces more torque to the rear wheels than it does to the front. This, coupled with the slight dip in front-end weight compared with the V12 Continental GT, gives the GT V8 S a dramatically different feel from its older brother. The GT V8 S also sings a different tune than the twelve-cylinder Continental (also known as the W12). The bigger Bentley growls as if it were a World War II dogfighter (and rightly so, in light of its heritage). The GT V8 S sounds just as remarkable, though it plays a slightly higher note. In either case, the sound of a Bentley engine is equally unmistakable.

2014 Bentley Continental GT V8 S Specifications at a glance:

• Engine: 4.0-liter eight-cylinder • Transmission: eight-speed automatic • Drive: All-wheel • Power: 512 horsepower • Torque: 502 lbs. per foot • Top Speed: 192 miles per hour • Zero to Sixty: 4.3 seconds • Fuel Economy: 18.4/26.8 mpg city/highway • MSRP: $177,000 Is this the Bentley of your dreams? Plenty of high-end carmakers are slicing up the pricing pie in innovative ways. No one can fault Bentley for mixing up its Continental lineup with twelve and eight-cylinder models at various price points in an effort to appeal to different buyers. However, the Continental GT V8 S is visually the same as the more expensive Continental GT W12. Likewise, the GT V8 S’s performance is so close to that of the big Bentley coupe that it is hard to justify the $20,000 plus difference between the base V8 and the base W12. That leaves plenty of money lying around to spend on options, like the must-have Mulliner package.

If you are looking for a Bentley that distinguishes itself as great amid a field of great cars, the GT V8 S certainly fits the bill. It is every bit the Continental dreams are made of, only lighter and more affordable. What the GT V8 S adds up to is an entry point into the realm of Bentley ownership that leaves nothing to want, and provides everything to envy.
