Brazil Approves Additional Labor Rights for Domestic Employees (Sunnyvale, CA)- The Brazilian government has approved a proposal that grants additional labor rights to domestic employees. The proposal which guarantees equal rights to both domestic and salaried workers is likely to incur a substantial increase in costs for domestic employers in Brazil, says Nair & Co.’s International HR Services Team. Previous Labor Rights Brazil has already granted minimum remuneration, irreducible salary, 13th salary, weekly day off (paid), holidays, maternity & paternity leave, notice period and retirement to the domestic workers. Newly Approved Additional Labor Rights The new labor rights include:
Fixed working hours (8 hours/day and 44 hours/week), Overtime Payment- Minimum extra of 50% of a normal hour, additional 20% (for night work),
Payment towards Unemployment Compensation Fund – 8%, Unemployment payment, compensation should be more than or equal to minimum pay, Discrimination based on color, age and marital status is prohibited.
