April 13, 2015 Dear NACURH Selection Committee, The IACURH Executive Board and the Intermountain Affiliate are proud to present this letter on behalf of the University of Utah’s bid for the NACURH Student of the Year Award. Their nominee, Rudi Zurbuchen, has gone above and beyond as a student at U of U. Rudi is truly a phenomenal student and student-leader. Currently, Rudi has a biological chemistry major with a minor in Italian. On top of her STEM major, Rudi as maintained a cumulative GPA of a 3.8. Apart from her challenging major and excelling in her program, in the past year Rudi was a Resident Advisor over the summer and has served the University of Utah as a Programming Assistant during the academic year. In her RA role, Rudi worked hard to build a valuable floor community through personal interactions and multiple types of programming. During the school year, Rudi took her programming skills to a new level and now programs for the entire campus. The PAs at U of U program to provide a safe social program for their residents to engage in during the weekend. Rudi has put on multiple programs, and one of her largest successes was putting on a late night breakfast were 700 residents attended, or roughly 30% of U of U’s on campus population.

Apart from her RA and PA roles, Rudi is involved with RHA and NRHH. Currently, Rudi sits on the NRHH Executive Board as the Special Projects Pillar Chair. Within that role, Rudi runs a committee dedicated to providing membership development opportunities for the chapter. In RHA, Rudi is a member of the Social Justice Board which is a group of students that program around social justice for the halls.

This NACURH year, Rudi has attended every conference. At NACURH 2014 and IACURH 2014, Rudi brought her programming skills to the conference and put on five programs for delegates, two of which were top programs. At No Frills 2015, Rudi was U of U’s NRHH Representative as she is the current NRHH President Elect. Rudi was very focused on bringing back elements of the conference to her chapter. After having a discussion on the NRHH Values change, Rudi is currently working on restructuring the NRHH Executive Board. After talking with other chapter representatives at No Frills, Rudi believes that this is the best way for her chapter to move forward.

Overall, Rudi is a passionate student-leader that truly focuses on bettering the residential experience for those at the University of Utah. Apart from excelling academically, Rudi has served the University in multiple positions and has brought her compassionate leadership to each of them. Rudi is truly an amazing student.

Programming! Assistant.! This! is! Rudi’s! second! year! as! a! Programming! Assistant,! and! I! conDnue! to! see! her! grow! and! learn! from! the! posiDon.!Many!challenges!have!been!presented!to!Rudi!and!the!PA!team,!and!she!has!been!a!major!contributor!to!overcoming!these! issues!and!the!team’s!success.!She!places!love!and!care!for!the!work!she!does!in!all!aspects.!Rudi!conDnues!to!challenge!herself!and!her! team!by!trying!new!things!and!finding!new!and!creaDve!ways!to!reach!out!to!students!living!on!campus.!Rudi!genuinely!cares!for!the! well!being!for!herself,!students,!and!team.!!! !

Most!recently,!Rudi!was!elected!as!the!2015I2016!NRHH!President.!Her!peers!have!recognized!her!ability!to!serve!a!community!and! effecDvely!lead,!and!Rudi!has!great!plans!for!helping!students.!Being!elected!into!this!posiDon!is!another!way!of!showing!how!Rudi!is!a! determined,!focused!individual!who!exhibits!great!drive!and!love!in!the!many!different!roles!she!has.!Rudi!is!genuine!and!focuses!on! the!ethics!of!caring.!I!know!Rudi!puts!her!whole!heart!in!everything!she!does.!Rudi!is!service!oriented,!and!this!mentality!is!not!simply!a! resume!builder.!Rudi!has!voiced!that!it!is!her!duty!and!purpose!as!a!leader!and!student!to!beBer!herself!and!the!people!around!her.! !
