NACA® SOUTH 2017 REGIONAL CONFERENCE

WELCOME!

Dear NACA® South Schools and Associates, On behalf of our entire Regional Conference Planning Committee (RCPC), it is my pleasure to welcome you to beautiful Chattanooga, TN for the 2017 NACA® South Regional Conference: Reaching New Heights! Grab your hiking boots and join in on the fun adventure that awaits you! Together, we will explore new peaks of knowledge, networking, friendship, and much more. Here are just a few of the highlights of the conference and tips for success: Educational Sessions: NACA® South offers 60+ educational sessions for attendees to choose from. By including a wide variety of topics, session styles, and learning environments, we hope to provide meaningful opportunities for you to grow and learn. Tip for success: Encourage your delegation to split up and attend different sessions. This will maximize the information you can take back to your campuses! Also, make sure to note the “audience” listed on each session so you go to the sessions designed especially for you. Campus Activities Marketplace: You’ll have the opportunity to visit “Base CAMP” six times during the conference. The Campus Activities Marketplace features more than 100 booths where you get to meet artists and agents from across the country and book your next great campus event. Tip: Visit as many booths as possible, and work that Block Booking magic to save your school some money! Showcases: Over 60 performers will take the stage in the main showcase hall. You’ll laugh, sing, think and dance along with some of the best talent the college market has to offer. Tip: Stay through the entire showcase to get the full experience! Advisor & Associate Lounges: The Advisor Lounge is split into two rooms—one to use as a quiet work zone, and one to use for networking with colleagues. Also new this year is a lounge for our Associate Members to enjoy some much-needed downtime during the conference. Tip: Utilize these spaces to make meaningful connections and get some work done! Check out the other opportunities for Advisors and Associates to connect too! Three Events at Once: We are excited to offer three of our signature events in the same place at roughly the same time! Tip: Be sure to come back from dinner a little early on Day 2 to experience Diversity & Desserts, School Swap, and the No Demo Campus Activities Marketplace in and around Hall B. Spirit Days: We encourage your delegations to show their school spirit at NACA South! Tip: On Friday, wear your best programming board officer or staff apparel. On Saturday day, deck yourselves out in your school’s colors or athletic swag to show your campus pride. On Saturday night, celebrate in style by dressing up for our closing banquet. Use #nacasou on social media to show your spirit and you may get a surprise! Volunteer: Be sure to sign up to volunteer throughout the weekend and consider applying for next year’s planning team to get a more behind-the-scenes look at how NACA South runs! Tip: Attend the Regional Conference Planning Committee (RCPC) interest meeting on Saturday! These are just some of the opportunities that you can take advantage of in Chattanooga. If there is anything the RCPC can do to enhance your NACA® South experience, please let us know. You will see us around in matching shirts or flair throughout the conference. We look forward to Reaching New Heights with you this weekend! Tyger Glauser The University of Tennessee, Knoxville 2017 NACA® South Regional Conference Chair

CONFERENCE NOTES

Volunteer Opportunities On-Site Volunteer Opportunities NACA South wants you! We are looking for volunteers to make this year’s conference Reach New Heights! On-site volunteering does not require much of your time, so you won’t miss the conference! You can sign up to help with registrations, be a ticket taker, staff the foundation fundraising table, and more! Sign up before the conference for the best slots. Open to all delegates. Please consider serving as an Educational Session Reviewer! Some presenters have requested feedback on their presentation from their peers and we need your help to make that happen. This will give you the opportunity to provide praise and constructive feedback so that our presenters can constantly improve and reach new heights. Please visit the Volunteer Booth if you are willing and able to serve as a reviewer. Open to professional staff and Associate Members.

School Swap

School Swap is a designated time during the conference to showcase your events, publicity, promotional items, and anything else your institution does well! Each delegation that participates will have a table to display their items however they would like. If you have extra t-shirts, brochures, promo items, or other fun things, be sure to bring those so you can swap and trade with other delegates! Schools are required to register ahead of time! Schools that register can be entered into contests including best incorporation of theme, best use of school spirit, and most creative booth display. There is also an on-site award for the participants that go above and beyond through incorporation of the theme, having awesome school spirit, and sharing creative ideas. This award is the “School Swap People’s Choice Award” and it is voted on by the delegates that participate in or attend the School Swap. The winner will be announced during the Closing Banquet. Any delegation is welcome to attend School Swap to learn more about what other schools do and how they market their organization and programming.

NACA® SOUTH 2017 REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Foundation Fundraising Opportunities

Help us raise money for the NACA® Foundation by participating in these fun events while at the conference Penny Wars Ever want to see someone get pied in the face? Now’s your chance! Several Regional Conference Program Committee (RCPC) members are in the running and you can have a say in who gets pied! Here’s how it works: Pennies count as positive points. All other money (nickels, dimes, quarters, bills, checks, etc.) count as negative points equal to the cent value of the currency. For example, a nickel is equal to negative 5 points; a dollar bill is equal to negative 100 points. After all monies are collected, results will be posted of the RCPC members in the lead at the Foundation Fundraiser booth in Campus Activities Marketplace. Throughout the weekend individuals may “sabotage” other RCPC members by adding in negative coins during camps. Winners will be announced at the final showcase and an RCPC member will be pied in the face during the last Campus Activities Marketplace. ALL money raised will be collected at the Foundation Fundraiser Booth in the Campus Activities Marketplace.

BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE Best Seat in the House Stop by the Foundation Fundraising table in the Campus Activities Marketplace to claim the best seat in the house for select showcases. Seats on couches in the front row will be on sale for select showcases throughout the conference, but you need to act fast as there is a limited supply. Other Opportunities Check out the NACA® South Portal for more fundraising opportunities.

Adopt-an-Associate

Don’t worry, it is not that much of a commitment! Sign up at registration or on the conference portal, and your delegation will be able to share the opening night dinner with an associate! (We are just like you, but maybe a little older!) As a benefit, you will have a table reserved for you at that first dinner! It is a win-win for all!

NACA® South Graphics Competition

Show off your institution’s best graphics and promotional items this year! The competition is open to all NACA® South member schools who have designed posters, flyers, buttons, clothing, or other promotional materials. All submissions will be showcased during the conference. This competition is designed to share and recognize ideas and techniques used to create outstanding promotional materials from a variety of campuses and programs. Competition winners will be recognized during the conference. Stop by the display during conference meals and get ideas. Entries should be prepared before conference and turned in by the 5th at 4:30 PM.

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS

NACA® SOUTH 2017 REGIONAL CONFERENCE NACA’s Mission The National Association for Campus Activities is a higher education organization providing members with the knowledge, ideas and resources to promote student learning through engagement in campus life. NACA’s Definition of Diversity Diversity is an attribute and a goal. As an attribute, diversity is ethnic identification/race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion, economic status and the many other aspects of our lives that define the family of humanity. As a goal, diversity refers to the intentional valuing, respecting and inclusion of all peoples. NACA recognizes the diversity of all its members and supports the development and implementation of programs and services that achieve this goal. Non-Discrimination, Diversity Advancement and Affirmative Action Principles NACA is committed to advancing diversity development and the principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action through its respective programs, services and volunteer involvement. To ensure compliance with these principles, the organization will: • Not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, economic status, sexual orientation, national origin, age, ethnic background or disability in any of their policies, procedures or practices. • Promote vigorous efforts to enhance, develop and increase a diverse volunteer pool in all areas of the Association. • Actively promote diversity in their programs and services. • Expect all volunteers and NACA® Office staff to consistently display sensitivity to diversity and the principles of affirmative action. • Promote the importance of eliminating discriminatory and/or culturally insensitive language, behavior and content from NACAsponsored activities and will urge all members and guests of the Association to cooperate in this effort. There is no intent to support censorship. The purpose is to induce thought and advance planning in an effort to ensure that showcase performances, Campus Activities Marketplace displays, educational sessions and other NACA-sponsored activities reflect appropriate diversity and sensitivity in their plans and actions. Civility Statement Prominent among the values that define the NACA community is civility, which includes mutual respect, fairness, and politeness. Membership in any community requires a concern for the common good for all who belong to that community. Each individual may possess different ideas, as well as different ways of communicating those ideas, particularly in a community as varied and diverse as an association. Because of these differences, respect and civility are integral to maintaining the quality of the association environment. Respect and civility should therefore be afforded to all individuals regardless of role within the association. This includes treating people with courtesy and consideration, acting and speaking judiciously and behaving professionally. All members of the association community are called upon to promote and value this ethic of common respect and civility. We will encourage discussion with a goal of instilling an appreciation for the importance of fair-mindedness, personal responsibility, and respect for differing opinions. At such occasions, members will always be strongly encouraged to observe common standards of decorum and to display a respectful tenor. We will also consider appropriate steps to be taken when members of our community do not respect these standards. Alcohol and Other Substance Abuse Policy The National Association for Campus Activities and the NACA® Foundation recognize the serious threats that alcohol and other substance abuse present to college populations, the entertainment industry, and to society as a whole. We realize that our Association is not immune to the problems associated with abuse. NACA is committed to addressing this issue through various activities, programs and educational efforts on regional and national levels. All NACA® members and volunteers are encouraged to uphold the Association’s statement in spirit and action; however, NACA has no responsibility for the conduct or behavior of event attendees.

#NACASOU

NACA® POLICIES Alcohol served outside of any official event (an official event is one endorsed or hosted by NACA) is not the responsibility of NACA, but is instead the responsibility of the individual/group/firm coordinating, hosting, promoting or holding the activity. All responsibility for determining whether participants at the activity are underage and for complying with applicable state and local laws rests solely with the individual/group/firm coordinating, hosting, promoting or holding the activity, and is not in any way the responsibility of NACA or any of its employees or representatives. In the event that NACA becomes the subject of a claim or loss arising from violation of this policy by any person, group or business entity, or service of alcohol at any non-official event, that person, group or business entity agrees that it shall indemnify and hold harmless NACA from and against all resulting claims and losses, including NACA’s costs and attorney’s fees, that arise from or relate to violation of this policy and/or service of alcohol at said non-official event. Videotaping/Photography Policies NACA photographs and videotapes regional and national events and attendees. These photographs and videotapes may be used in any NACA® materials and publications, and on the NACA® website. By attending this event, you, your delegates and/or the acts that you represent give NACA your consent to use photographs and videotapes in which you, your delegates and/or your acts appear. NACA® delegates or other persons may use photographic, videotape or other image and sound recording devices to record events and activities that take place during NACA® events, as long as these activities do not interfere with the audience enjoyment of or participation in NACA® events. Those photographing, videotaping or otherwise recording events cannot interfere with showcase technical crew, stagehands, etc. The following specific guidelines apply to any photography, videotaping or other recording at an NACA® event: •P rofessional crews will not be allowed. •O n-stage filming or placement will not be allowed. Recording must occur from the show floor. • Access to the soundboard will not be allowed. • Audience views cannot be obstructed. •P ower must be self-contained (i.e., battery packs). Access to the event power supply will not be allowed. •U se of supplemental lighting will not be allowed. •S ome forms of recording/taping may not be available at specific venues due to union or other facility regulations. •R ecording/taping of some materials may require the permission of the owner of such materials, and it is the recorder’s responsibility to obtain such necessary permissions. • If audience members, showcase crew or other technical, conference or facility staff complain about the position of a camera/operator, the camera/operator will be asked to move. If the camera/operator does not comply, they will not be allowed to continue taping. BY USING VIDEOGRAPHIC AND/OR OTHER RECORDING DEVICES TO RECORD NACA® EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES, THE RECORDER REPRESENTS THAT HE/SHE HAS OBTAINED ALL NECESSARY PERMISSIONS FROM ANY COPYRIGHT HOLDERS OR OTHER ENTITIES WHOSE RIGHTS MAY BE AFFECTED. THE RECORDER AGREES TO INDEMNIFY NACA, ITS EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS AND INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY ARISING FROM THE RECORDER’S VIDEOTAPING OR RECORDING ACTIVITIES. Special Needs Although the Association strives to make all events accessible to all participants, including individuals with disabilities or special needs, where reasonably possible, not all special needs may be accommodated at all sites. If the Association is unable to provide the special service(s) requested by a delegate and the delegate does not attend the event, the Association will refund the registration fee. Event Cancellation Policy NACA reserves the right to cancel any program. Causes for cancellation may include, but are not limited to, low participation by schools and/or associates, acts of God, etc. In the case of a program cancellation, NACA will only reimburse fees paid to NACA; any travel, lodging or other non-NACA® fees will not be reimbursed.

EVER WANT TO SEE SOMEONE GET PIED IN THE FACE? Now’s your chance! Several Regional Conference Program Committee (RCPC) members are in the running and you can have a say in who gets pied! Here’s how it works: Pennies count as positive points. All other money (nickels, dimes, quarters, bills, checks, etc.) count as negative points equal to the cent value of the currency. For example, a nickel is equal to negative 5 points; a dollar bill is equal to negative 100 points. After all monies are collected, results will be posted of the RCPC members in the lead at the Foundation Fundraiser booth in the Campus Activities Marketplace. Throughout the weekend individuals may “sabotage” other RCPC members by adding in negative coins during Marketplaces (in other words, drop a dime on your opponent and cost them 10 points!) Winners will be announced at the final showcase and an RCPC MEMBER WILL BE PIED IN THE FACE during the last Marketplace. All money raised will be collected at the Foundation Fundraiser Booth in the Marketplace. 14

Additionally, Saro receives heavy play on multiple high-volume Spotify playlists. Saro’s live shows are breathtaking experiences where powerful electronic pop music is met with movement bringing forth the electricity of performance art to every concert. Tours have included opening for Miguel in NYC, at SXSW, The Echoplex and The Bardot, while having fabulous audience reaction at college shows. Miami-based Adam Kario certainly knows how to juggle his career. For the past two decades, he’s been making audiences smile as one of the premiere professional comedy juggler entertainers. He has energized conventions, brought down the house at awards banquets and made grandpas giggle as hard as their grandkids. Adam’s career in entertainment was launched at age 10 when his dad taught him how to juggle with three tennis balls. Within weeks, he performed for his fourth-grade talent show, and soon after, he began street performing. With razor-sharp focus and countless hours of practice, Adam won the World Juggling Championships with zero drops – the juggling equivalent of a perfect 10. Two years later, he won a second world championship – all while still a teenager. In all, Adam has commandeered thousands of shows at every imaginable venue, including NBA halftime shows, Fortune 500 companies and cruises, as well as in many television appearances.

That’s the way Texas native Lance Kotara and Colorado belle LeAnna Kaufman live their lives, so it’s no surprise the two songwriters would meet by chance in Nashville, TN, and form a bond of creative chemistry, which would lead to the birth of their dynamic duo, Lance & Lea. Marked by close harmonies, prominent guitars and emotional lyrics and melodies, the two have now written over 240 songs together. “It was so magical how the songs just fell out of the air,” says Lance, describing their first songwriting session together. The Icarus Account is a singer/songwriter duo made up of twin brothers Ty and Trey Turner. The duo started off performing in local coffee shops during their college years and quickly grew a national fanbase due to their honest songwriting, tight harmonies and laidback personalities. The band has toured and shared the stage with acts such as twenty-one pilots, American Authors, Plain White Ts, Trevor Hall and many others. Their songs have been featured on several commercials and TV shows, and their most popular single, “Favorite Girl,” was recently featured on Snapchat. Hailing from Florida, Ty and Trey have always had a dream of traveling the world playing music and they are incredibly grateful they are living out that dream today.

In the music industry today, inspiring and making a true connection with your audience is a lost art. This is where Lauren Light’s story begins. Lauren has the ability to connect and provide an unmatched energy and musicality like no other. Her sound is often compared to the likes of Adele, Katy Perry, Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple, but Lauren’s style is defined by a unique quality all its own. On stage, she artfully crafts the perfect blend of rock, pop, storytelling and powerfully soulful vocals. Her performances have a way of transcending the typical expectation of what a live music experience can be, consistently showcasing something new and different with each set played. No matter the venue space, Lauren Light’s music and performance remain powerful and true.

Formed by Los Angeles native Tori Lund and South Georgia boy Blake English, the two write, produce and record all their music independently. They recently quit their jobs and moved to Blakely, GA, where they found the talents of Tommy “Big Cajun” Ducharme (drums), Italian Anna Portalupi (bass) and Brett Robinson (pedal steel guitar). Their first single, “On Down the Road,” has been getting airplay in the US, the UK and Europe, and they’re soon to release their debut album, inspired by road trips, nature and raw everyday struggles. They’ll get you toe tapping to interesting lyrics, soulful melodies and good ole country sounds.

Headphone Disco are the inventors of the “silent dance party” format and have been touring the world for the past seven years. Performing some huge college shows led to them being voted Best Novelty Act by the readers of Campus Activities Magazine, among many other awards. So how does it work? 1. We arrive at your school (or showcase!) with our two resident DJs and our two- or three-channel wireless headphones. 2. Our DJs spin two different styles of music side by side over two different wireless channels. 3. Guests select which DJ they want to listen to using the switch on their headphones (provided by us), then get busy on the dancefloor. Imagine a dancefloor where one half of the crowd are singing along to Taylor Swift while the other half are doing The Wobble! Bizarre and mindblowing, but most of all, a huge amount of fun.

She’s midnight. He’s noon. Complete opposites, yet one could not exist, and the world could not spin, without the other. Meet Dave and Whitney Campbell. Whitney is an energetic, enthusiastic spitfire with “can-do” persistence. Dave is a self-proclaimed guitar-geek who is cool, calm and collected. Midnight Noon is the most unnatural, natural genesis – cosmically in tune with one another. Dave and Whitney’s relationship was as spontaneous as it was spiritual. With a higher force guiding their way, it was inevitable that these two individual touring artists would band together to spread their love and faith to the world through their music. Now fully re-branded and launching onto the music scene as Midnight Noon, the duo has over 500 tour dates under their belt and has shared the stage with some of country music’s greats such as Randy Houser, Eli Young Band, Florida Georgia Line and Dustin Lynch, to name a few.

Spanning decades and cultures, the five members of Anthem combine boundless energy and diverse musical influences to showcase their own brand of reggae. Anthem’s tight harmonies and solid musical sensibilities stem from the fact that three of the band’s members come from the same musical family. Anthem is comprised of rappers and producers, R&B singers and old-fashioned rock and rollers and their members have been seen on everything from Puff Daddy’s “Making the Band” on MTV to having their songs featured on BET’s, “Soul Food.” Positive and pop, roots and soulful, energetic and seductive … Are you ready for Anthem?

Josh Vietti has played the violin since age four. When he was seven, he received a violin scholarship with virtuoso Mischa Lefkowitz of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and studied with him for over 10 years. He has appeared in an NBA All-Star Game commercial, has performed for Michael Jordan, and been on “he Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown” and on celebrity wedding planner David Tutera’s hit TV show “CELEBrations” on WEtv. He has also appeared LIVE at Dodger Stadium several times, including performing the national anthem. Most recently, Josh performed a 15-minute half-time show at the Roger Federer “Match For Africa 4” tournament in front of 17,000 people at Seattle’s Key Arena.

A cross between Cat Stevens and Paul Simon, Lee DeWyze has certainly broken the mold of “American Idol” winners. Signing with legendary label Vanguard Records in 2012, Lee wrote and recorded the album “Frames,” which was met with incredible reviews from critics and fans alike. With over 130 headline tour dates in 2015 and 2016, Lee also shared the stage with such acts as Fitz and The Tantrums, Lady Antebellum, and Train. The year 2015 also saw a breakout moment for Lee when he wrote an original song for “The Walking Dead,” “Blackbird Song,” that was considered “the most influential TV sync of the year.” That song has garnered more than 5 million YouTube views, sold more than 50,000 singles, and has been played 3.5 million times on Spotify. Lee’s newest album, “Oil & Water,” was released to critical acclaim in February 2016.

On campus, there is a film screening, then extensive post-film discussion. Only Dan will be showcasing – but Dan, David and Rob will come to campus. Based on the award-winning documentary film “WHAT MATTERS?,” two idealistic activists and one skeptic, looking for meaning in their lives, set out to examine the injustice of extreme poverty. Living on $1.25 per day, they traveled through three continents. The adventure turned disastrous when two of them survived a deadly plane crash. Using personal stories, humor and facts, your audience will be engaged by their mission to “connect those who need something to live for with those who just need something to live.” The program challenges everyone to ask themselves what breaks their hearts and what makes them come alive, and think of ways to put those together. Pete Lee might be the nicest person in New York City, but that’s because it’s impossible to sound aggressive with a Wisconsin accent. Pete was raised in Janesville, WI, by divorced parents and a 19-inch television, which is probably why he pursued a career in entertainment. Thanks to his highly rated “Comedy Central Presents” half-hour special, Pete has packed venues at over 500 colleges and universities across the country. Pete has also been a standout on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and played a doctor on the CBS soap opera “As the World Turns.” Most recently, Pete appeared on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon!” Pete is a rising star in the college market and on television, but he is also really fun to have dinner with at your town’s Applebee’s.

Angie Keilhauer was a full-time engineering student working at a mustang-only salvage yard in Monroe, GA. Every weekend, she would drive for hours to play smoky dive bars and honky-tonks all over the South, dreaming (like most musicians) of someday going on a real tour. One summer, her dream came true with a job offer as a musician on Carnival Cruise Lines. That first cruise ship contract not only funded her first live acoustic album, it also gave her just enough to buy a decent car and PA system and allow her to start touring up and down the East Coast. In just two years of touring, she caught the eye of NBC’s “The Voice” and was invited to audition. After making it through three rounds on the show with Blake Shelton, Angie decided to invest in her first-ever fullband album, which managed to hit No. 5 on the iTunes charts!

Since recording their debut EP, “Runaways,” with Billboard-charting platinum producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, the duo has completed their first full-length record, which was completely self-written and self produced. The new record titled, “StayCation,” was released in May of 2017.

As a forerunner of the Midwest “garage soul” movement, Jared Mahone sheds his band and tours the country as a one-man show. Despite regional recognition as the 2013 Verizon Indie Icon, national recognition from his Katie Couric daytime talk show appearance on ABC, or being named Best Male Artist in the 2014 International Acoustic Music Awards, Jared despises fame chasing. He favors a troubadour-style trudge across the country, meeting new supporters face to face, one handshake at a time. He has patiently turned hometown open-mic night glory into a humble career as a nationally touring, independent musician, and his raw, acoustic songs are inspired by his affinity for throwback ‘90s era soul, hip-hop and R&B.

Together, they de-construct, re-edit and remix massive dancefloor fillers live and on the fly in an uproarious stage show. While Corleone chops up and scratches tracks the audience know and love, Mike loops some insane live drum breaks over the top, creating a wholly interactive show that not only sounds amazing but is visually stunning, too. Nelly’s Echo is neither a band nor a solo musician, but a concept of the musical experience associated with its creator, Nelson. He has self-released five successful albums in addition to having his version of the Bill Withers classic “Ain’t No Sunshine” reach No. 7 on the iTunes R&B charts. Nelly’s Echo has had the privilege of not only entertaining soldiers stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, but also participated in Season 3 of “The Voice” as a member of Team Christina and was a featured speaker at TEDXIWilmington. Nelly’s Echo has taken great pride in sharing the stage with the likes of Trombone Shorty, Travis McCoy, Sean Kingston, Misterwives, Butch Walker and Boyz II Men. Relying on lessons learned from his childhood in Africa and his everyday experiences, Nelly’s Echo’s storytelling style has led to some comparing their musicality and storytelling to that of Jason Mraz and John Mayer.

Comedian Troy Walker began performing stand-up in the Denver comedy scene, where he quickly rose to prominence and was twice named winner of the “New Faces” contest at the famed Comedy Works Comedy Club. Troy now lives in Los Angeles, and made his TV Debut on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” He has since been featured on Vice, Fuse, and Comedy Central. Troy has quickly become a comedy festival regular, having performed at The Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, Austin’s Moontower Comedy Festival, Nebraska’s Great American Comedy Festival, The Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, the Telluride Comedy Festival, and as a “New Face” at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal.
