WELCOME!

Howdy, NACA Central! The 2018 NACA® Central Regional Conference Program Committee is so happy you decided to Meet Us at NACA Central in Arlington, TX! We’ve been meeting for months to create an unforgettable experience for you and your delegates while in Arlington. We’re excited to see you engage in all we have planned during the conference and hope you’re able to find blue ribbon-worthy ideas to bring back to your campus. When the RCPC initially came together to begin planning the conference, the observation was made that the State Fair would be happening right down the street from us while we’re in Arlington. As we explored the history of state fairs, the similarities to NACA were striking and we felt this strongly aligned with what we’re hoping to accomplish during our time here. Check out this brief history into state fairs and see for yourself! “State and world fairs have long been known as destinations for introducing new modernizations to the world. Beginning in 1886 as a local gathering place for people to share ideas and learn from new cultures, the state fair and exposition in Fair Park became a breeding ground for Texas education and innovation. While its historical purpose has evolved over the last 132 years, education remains a pillar of the Fair’s nonprofit mission- promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement.” Retrieved from https://bigtex.com/about-us/2018-fair-theme/ Much like the State Fair of Texas, we hope to focus on similar key values throughout the weekend to push programming and your leadership abilities to the next level. On our Blue Ribbon, you will see three values highlighted: 1. Education

a. Attend a session that will take you out of your comfort zone and make you learn something new and exciting. b. A sk questions during sessions. How will this idea fit on your campus? What challenges can you see yourself facing while new adopting practices? 2. Community

a. Build community with your peers by sitting next to someone you don’t know in an educational session. b. Volunteer at the conference. 3. Business

a. Take advantage of the Campus Activities Marketplace by visiting with associates. b. Complete business with Block Booking by attending and participating in each meeting. Much like the State Fair, make NACA Central your destination to introduce new modernizations while embracing your campus’ historical roots. Share with us while you learn, build community, do business, and maybe even indulge in some good ol’ fashioned fair food using #NACACEN. We are so grateful you decided to Meet us at NACA Central! CONFERENCE NOTES

NACA® CENTRAL REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Hey! Where are the Ed Sessions? As you may have already noticed, Educational Session descriptions are nowhere to be found in this conference program. Why? Well, in an effort to provide you with the most up-to-date content, we decided this year to allow session presenters to submit their topics later than usual. That means presenters are planning new sessions while we at NACA HQ are busy designing and printing the conference program. But don’t worry—you can find all the session descriptions, presenters and room assignments in the NACA® App. And there will be a limited number of paper handouts listing the session titles and locations, available at registration (so get there early!) So download the app, set your schedule, and get your learning on!

Foundation Fundraising:

Vote for Program of the Year

This weekend, take part in our #NACACenNACATen initiative. For every $10 donated from a school or delegate, you can get something in return! Our goal is to raise $710. There are many ways to participate in our foundation fundraiser this weekend. We have a NACA “CENTral” Penny Wars competition among the states in the region. We have a silent auction and basket raffle at CAMP. Check out the cool items you could possibly win by donating a small amount! We will also have a pie bidding war where delegates can bid to pie an advisor or an agent (whoever is willing to participate). The 3 top people who are bid on will get pied! Lastly, participate in our dinner and lunch on your own restaurant partnerships. A percentage of the meals will be donated back to NACA Central! Help us reach our goal!

Each delegation has one vote on which program they think should be the program of the year. Stop by the volunteer booth on Saturday from 8:30 am till noon to select the best overall program for the Central region. Applications were submitted for this award before the conference and judged. The top 5 applications will be on display waiting for your vote.

School Swaps & Social: Make sure to take advantage of the opportunity to network with students around the region at the Student Social! We will have multiple opportunities for you to swap ideas and swag throughout the conference. And most importantly, the more activities you participate in the more carnival prizes you’ll win! Friday, Oct. 4: Student Social 10:05 PM • Sheraton – Hall of Fame Saturday, Oct. 5: Idea Swap Conference Lunch 12:30 PM • Salon B Saturday, Oct. 5: School Swag Swap 7 PM • Sheraton – Hall of Fame

On-Site Volunteer Opportunities NACA Central wants you! We are looking for volunteers to make this year’s conference a success! On-site volunteering does not require much of your time, so you won’t miss the conference! You can sign up to help with registration, be a ticket taker, staff the foundation fundraising table, and more!

NACA® POLICIES Definition of Diversity Diversity is an attribute and a goal. As an attribute, diversity is ethnic identification/race, gender, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion, economic status and the many other aspects of our lives which define the family of humanity. As a goal, diversity refers to the intentional valuing, respecting and inclusion of all peoples. NACA recognizes the diversity of all its members and supports the development and implementation of programs and services that achieve this goal. Non-Discrimination, Diversity Advancement and Affirmative Action Principles NACA is committed to advancing diversity development and the principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action through its respective programs, services and volunteer involvement. To ensure compliance with these principles, the organization will: • Not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, economic status, sexual orientation, national origin, age, ethnic background or disability in any of their policies, procedures or practices. • Promote vigorous efforts to enhance, develop and increase a diverse volunteer pool in all areas of the Association. • Actively promote diversity in its programs and services. • Expect all volunteers and NACA Office staff to consistently display sensitivity to diversity and the principles of affirmative action. • Promote the importance of eliminating discriminatory and/ or culturally insensitive language, behavior and content from NACA-sponsored activities and will urge all members and guests of the Association to cooperate in this effort. There is no intent to support censorship. The purpose is to induce thought and advance planning in an effort to ensure that showcase performances, Campus Activities Marketplace displays, educational sessions and other NACA-sponsored activities reflect appropriate diversity and sensitivity in their plans and actions. Civility Statement Prominent among the values that define the NACA community is civility, which includes mutual respect, fairness, and politeness. Membership in any community requires a concern for the common good for all who belong to that community. Each individual may possess different ideas, as well as different ways of communicating those ideas, particularly in a community as varied and diverse as an association. Because of these differences, respect and civility are integral to maintaining the quality of the association environment. Respect and civility should therefore be afforded to all individuals regardless of role within the association. This includes treating people with courtesy and consideration, acting and speaking judiciously and behaving professionally. All members of the association community are called upon to promote and value this ethic of common respect and civility. We will encourage discussion with a goal of instilling an appreciation for the importance of fair-mindedness, personal responsibility, and respect for differing opinions. At such occasions, members will always be strongly encouraged to observe common standards of decorum and to display a respectful tenor. We will also consider appropriate steps to be taken when members of our community do not respect these standards. Alcohol and Other Substance Abuse Policy The National Association for Campus Activities and the NACA® Foundation recognize the serious threats that alcohol and other substance abuse present to college populations, the entertainment industry, and to society as a whole. We realize that our Association is not immune to the problems associated with abuse. NACA is committed to addressing this issue through various activities, programs and educational efforts on regional and national levels. All NACA® members and volunteers are encouraged to uphold the Association’s statement in spirit and action; however, NACA has no responsibility for the conduct or behavior of event attendees.

8

NACA® CENTRAL REGIONAL CONFERENCE Alcohol served outside of any official event (an official event is one endorsed or hosted by NACA) is not the responsibility of NACA, but is instead the responsibility of the individual/group/ firm coordinating, hosting, promoting or holding the activity. All responsibility for determining whether participants at the activity are underage and for complying with applicable state and local laws rests solely with the individual/group/firm coordinating, hosting, promoting or holding the activity, and is not in any way the responsibility of NACA or any of its employees or representatives. In the event that NACA becomes the subject of a claim or loss arising from violation of this policy by any person, group or business entity, or service of alcohol at any non-official event, that person, group or business entity agrees that it shall indemnify and hold harmless NACA from and against all resulting claims and losses, including NACA’s costs and attorney’s fees, that arise from or relate to violation of this policy and/or service of alcohol at said non-official event. Special Needs Although the Association strives to make all events accessible to all participants, including individuals with disabilities or special needs, where reasonably possible, not all special needs may be accommodated at all sites. If the Association is unable to provide the special service(s) requested by a delegate and the delegate does not attend the event, the Association will refund the registration fee. Videotaping/Photography Policies NACA photographs and videotapes regional events and attendees. These photographs and videotapes may be used in any NACA® materials and publications, and on the NACA website. By attending this event, you, your delegates and/or the acts that you represent give NACA your consent to use photographs and videotapes in which you, your delegates and/or your acts appear. NACA® delegates or other persons may use photographic, videotape or other image and sound recording devices to record events and activities that take place during NACA® events, as long as these activities do not interfere with the audience enjoyment of or participation in NACA® events. Those photographing, videotaping or otherwise recording events cannot interfere with showcase technical crew, stagehands, etc. The following specific guidelines apply to any photography, videotaping or other recording at an NACA® event: • Professional crews will not be allowed. • On-stage filming or placement will not be allowed. If the camera/operator does not comply, they will not be allowed to continue taping. By using videographic and/or other recording devices to record NACA® events and activities, the recorder represents that he/she has obtained all necessary permissions from any copyright holders or other entities whose rights may be affected. The recorder agrees to indemnify NACA, its employees, agents, officers, directors and independent contractors from any and all liability arising from the recorder’s videotaping or recording activities.

In 1998, attorney C.L. Lindsay III left his practice in New York City to found the Coalition for Student & Academic Rights (CO-STAR). Since then, acting as its executive director, he has built CO-STAR into a national student rights organization that helps thousands of college students with their legal problems, free of charge, each year. C.L. is a nationally recognized expert and leader in the field of student rights and academic freedom. He literally wrote the book on legal problems at colleges. “The College Student’s Guide to the Law” has become the definitive authority used by students and university counsel, and as a textbook for master’s and law courses nationwide. He graduated magna cum laude from Denison University (OH) and received his J.D. from the University of Michigan. In his spare time, he teaches courses in law and literature at the University of Pennsylvania.

After college, social entrepreneur Andy Stoll set off on what would become a four-year, 40-country trip around the world to better understand how people live. He lived in a Buddhist temple in Korea; worked in a dress factory in Bangkok; farmed in a mud hut village in Africa; lived the life of a cowboy in Australia; and played a 19th century British soldier in a Bollywood movie. Andy delivers insightful and entertaining talks that artfully weave together themes of leadership, social entrepreneurship, travel and global perspective to help young people find answers to their most pressing (and often haunting) questions: “What do I want to do when I grow up?” “How can I find my place in the world?” “Can I change the world?” Andy’s message to students is clear: “The distance between who you are and what you want to become is closer than you think.”

Maggie Maye loves candy almost as much as she loves performing comedy. She made her late-night debut on “Conan” and was featured on “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “AXS TV Presents: Gotham Comedy Live.” She’s performed stand-up at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest (as one of the Sketchfest Dozen), FunFunFun Fest, the Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival, SXSW, and the All Jane Comedy Festival. She’s had her name in comedy articles in the Huffington Post, Variety, LaughSpin, the New York Times, and Splitsider. She performed improv comedy with her troupe, Damn, Gina!, and in various sketch and improv shows around Austin before moving to Los Angeles. Her comedy is described in the same way she is: sassy, charming, and smart. Also, a six-year-old once told her she was the funniest person ever. And kids rarely lie.

Andrew Tufano is a freak of nature based in Nashville, TN. He can be found looping as many as 10 instruments in 30 seconds and performing songs he’s never heard after one listen. After playing over 800 shows in five years, Andrew feels most comfortable on stage, whether he’s writing songs about audience members on the spot or taking ridiculous song requests – from Disney songs to angsty pop-punk throwbacks. His spontaneity and raw talent keep audiences laughing and singing along. Andrew has toured 38 states across the US and played shows with a variety of artists such as Phillip Phillips, Creed Bratton (from NBC’s “The Office”), and Taboo (The Black Eyed Peas). When he’s not on tour, he’s writing songs in Nashville with legendary songwriters such as Don Schlitz and Mark Irwin. His favorite hobbies include buying women’s sweaters at thrift stores and wearing them without shame. Also, playing music.

The two have created a much bigger sound than the standard two-piece by making custom beats and looping them live for the audience. Born in Mexico, but raised in the United States, Jose Barrientos has a background in the military and cyber skills that have helped him earn the pet name “Professional Mexican.” He is also quite the prankster. For an entire semester, Jose faked a typical Hispanic immigrant accent in his speech 101 class, and videotaped it all ... but what started as a prank quickly turned into a social experiment. Overnight, the video went viral, pushing the limits of social norms and preconceived notions of foreign culture. He now tours around the country sharing through stand-up comedy what he learned about cultural diversity behind the mask of a foreign immigrant. He’s been seen on “20/20” on ABC and has performed for the military and colleges all over the country.

Gene Harding is a comedian, actor, writer and native New Yorker best known for co-starring on the hit TV show “The Gary Owen Show” on BET. Gene followed the success of the show as the go-to opening act for Gary Owen for the past five years. Additionally, he’s headlined at some of the country’s top comedy clubs, such as the Kansas City Improv, the Ft. Lauderdale Improv, and the Louisville Improv. Gene’s acting skills have landed him roles on the hit HBO show “Ballers” with Dwayne Johnson, USA’s hit show “Burn Notice” and a few different roles on “America’s Most Wanted” (two out of three are true). He’s done several voiceover commercials for JetBlue Airways, KFC and Crunch Fitness, to name a few, and his new EP, “The Human Being,” can be heard across the SiriusXM Comedy channels, including Raw Dog and LaughUSA.

Born in Missouri, raised in Florida, and currently residing in the cornfields of the Midwest, Aileeah writes songs telling the stories of real life, love and loss she’s experienced along the way. She grew up singing in church with her siblings and fell in love with music and its ability to make you feel, grow and change. She combines her love of traditional country with today’s soulful pop songwriters to create songs rooted in country values and storytelling, with percussive rhythm and soul.

Growing up in Indianapolis as the child of Ethiopian immigrants has given Biniam Bizuneh unique a perspective and the ability to connect with audiences regardless of their background. Biniam was a staff writer for the popular ABC late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and has been a contributing writer for TruTV’s “Billy on the Street.” He made his televised stand-up debut on VICELAND’s Flophouse and recently starred as the lead in the Lee Daniels FOX pilot “Culture Clash (AKA Our People).” Biniam has written and starred in originals for Comedy Central Digital, including the one-off sketch “Demitrinox,” and his Comedy Central digital series, “How to Be Broke,” which recently wrapped it’s second season. Biniam also performs stand-up comedy nationally and frequently opens for “Saturday Night Live’s” Melissa Villaseñor.

Shanice Green gives us a necessary break from the norm. In a world that’s seemingly obsessed with the next top 40 hit, it’s very rare to come across an artist who embraces soul and authenticity. Shanice pours pure, unfiltered “soul” into her listeners’ hearts. She’s managed to find a sweet spot between acoustic soul, blues and folky pop that sits just right with her audience. While Shanice accompanies herself expressively and rhythmically on acoustic guitar, it’s her rich, euphonious vocals that truly heal hearts.

Art of Everyone’s laser-guided painting thoroughly engages an audience for the duration of an event, as participants collectively create a beautiful work of art. The Artist Conductor stands a few feet away on one side of a large, freestanding canvas (typically 5’x5’) and begins outlining an image using just a laser pointer and a vivid imagination. Participants, in turn, stand on the other side of the canvas and begin applying paint directly to the canvas by following the laser dot as it travels around the canvas. The paint is actually pushed through the fabric, creating a beautiful image. A few hours later, a work of art has been created by dozens of people – the Artist Conductor never touches the canvas.

Twenty-three-year-old Jordy Searcy from Nashville, TN is a compelling new singer, songwriter and entertainer on the American music scene. All the coaches on “The Voice” were thoroughly impressed by Jordy when he was on Team Pharrell in 2014, and he used the momentum of the show to launch an extensive tour of the Southeast and release his debut EP, “Seasons,” which peaked at No. 7 on the iTunes singersongwriter charts and No. 5 on Apple Music. Jordy’s two-man live show consists of crowd interaction, crazy good vocals, mesmerizing loop pedal arrangements, creative covers, and well-crafted songwriting.

Michael Blaustein is a touring headlining comedian who is currently on the Comedy Central on Campus Tour and The College Humor Tour. He has performed at over 200 colleges worldwide. Michael has been selected to perform at such prestigious comedy festivals as The Just For Laughs Festival in Toronto and The New York Comedy Festival. He can be seen on a recent season of CBS’s “Person of Interest” and has a supporting role in Spike Lee’s 2016 film “The Lucky Guy.” He has hosted two shows for MTV and was a cast member of the last season of MTV’s “Punk’d.”

In April 2018, Kiry Shabazz made his network late-night debut on NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” Kiry grew up in the cold streets of Cleveland, OH. Not in a gangster kind of way, but literally – Cleveland has really cold winters. He was working at a restaurant in 2011 when he suddenly left all the glamor behind. He felt like he couldn’t truly be himself. He’s a charismatic, witty, off-the-top comedian whose hilarious punch lines have made him one of the best up-and-coming comics in Northern California. After shows, he’s often told, “Your comedy changed my life,” which he can never be certain is a good or bad thing, sending him into a whirlwind of paranoia and insecurity. Kiry won the World Series of Comedy Competition, as well as the 2018 StandUp NBC competition, and also toured on the StandUp NBC Comedy Tour.

Alex Ahn is a classically trained violinist from Atlanta, GA. Since starting the violin over two decades ago, he gradually transitioned from the strict structure of classical violin to developing his own free-flowing style stemming from the culture of Atlanta. Now, Alex has played all over the United States at private events, fashion shows and international events. To this day, he continually develops his style in ways people would’ve never imagined the violin to sound. Time and time again, Alex Ahn shows the violin can be whatever you want it to be.

During the 2016 season, “America’s Got Talent” judges called Steven Brundage’s show “amazing” and “an incredible piece of magic.” The 25-year-old professional magician is best known for his impossible-tobelieve routines with Rubik’s Cubes and specializes in close-up, sleightof-hand magic that shocks and delights audiences of all sizes. Although he started as a close-quarters street performer, Brundage relishes the challenge of using technology and audience participation to adapt his astonishingly original tricks to stage shows with large audiences – the more skeptical the better. In addition to “America’s Got Talent,” Brundage has appeared on “Good Morning America,” “The Today Show,” “Penn and Teller: Fool Us” (He fooled them), and “The Steve Harvey Show.”

Francisco Ramos is a bicultural and bilingual comedian, having performed in both English and Spanish. He was chosen to be part of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” where he made it to the Top 10 finalists. Last year, he was in Maria Bamford’s Netflix show “Lady Dynamite” and, in 2018, he appeared on HBO Latino’s “Entre Nos.” Francisco has also appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and has used his voice to create memorable characters in animation as the voice of the King Marmoset in “RIO,” as well as for the film “Marmaduke.” Originally from Venezuela, Francisco moved to the States as a teenager. After graduating from the University of Maryland with a double major in finance and international business, he discovered his true love was comedy. His parents didn’t find that too funny, but when you catch his act, you will.

Riding a new wave in the Philadelphia music scene, The Burgeoning brings to their fans and the people, in general, an eclectic and lively dance-party vibe. Their sound is a beach-funk, West Coast, Cali-feel meshed smoothly with a dynamic East Coast style. This talented group of artists bring together their distinct styles and stitch together a colorful quilt of emotion that will warm even the coolest regions of the soul. As they take us on a journey through their songs, they invite their fans, old and new ones, to grow – rather burgeon – with them as they share their creations with the world.

Amidst the uprising in Ferguson, seven St. Louis college students evolved as advocates and activists as they demanded change through policy and protest. “Show Me Democracy” is the powerful documentary about those efforts. The film functions as a powerful tool that educates young people on the power they have to effect change and the need for educational advocacy. Too often, young people are dismissed as a group without the right to have their views considered or their interests represented at any level of decision making. One of the film’s taglines represents that well: “Nothing about me, without me.” Your students will realize they have the capacity, potential, power and right to speak up on those issues that directly affect them and their peers. On campus, there is a film screening, then post-film discussion. The director and two activists will showcase. Two activists will come to your campus.

David Zach is the lead singer and songwriter for the rock band Remedy Drive, as well as an advocate in the fight against human trafficking. When not touring with the band, David spends time overseas as a volunteer undercover operative with the abolitionist group The Exodus Road. While overseas, he spends time in brothels and clubs in the red-light districts where underage girls and boys are sold by the hour. His role while undercover is to identify instances of minors being sold and to capture actionable evidence of their trafficking using covert gear, some of which is funded by the Remedy Drive community and fan base. That evidence is used to make rescues and arrests in partnership with local authorities. The idea that ordinary human beings can impact change for freedom and justice is central to the message David brings to audiences across the world.

Signed to The Record Machine (Kansas City) in September, The Fey (formerly AZP) is predominantly a new age American rock-soulR&B band. This sextet boasts a versatile sound. The vibe is comparable to a mix of Black Keys/OutKast with instrumentation, presentation and lyrics that convey a message to the audience. Also expressed is a touch of the contemporary vibes of hip-hop and pop. The group stretches each genre’s “limitations” by re-creating a very pleasing interaction within popular music. It’s your classic fuzz guitar tones, whirling organs, deeply warm bass guitar and heartfelt vocals, slightly molded with the cool, energetic vibrations of indie culture. Instagram: @thefeyband

Olivia Lane is strong, dynamic, smart, funny and above all, an entertainer. Much of her confidence is rooted in her Texas upbringing. Her mother was a local Texas country singer who inspired her to sing and start writing songs at age 16. Olivia ultimately landed in Nashville, where her self-titled debut EP stirred interest throughout and beyond Music Row in 2016. Olivia’s influences include Linda Ronstadt and Carole King, but she has the production and energy of Shania Twain. “If I have to categorize myself I’d have to say I’m pop country. Growing up I was a musical melting pot, but country music always had the lyrics that drew me in.” Most recently, she has been writing and recording new music while releasing one song at a time directly to her fans, which she did with her release of “Wrong Girl” & “Devil and You.”

Quincy grew up in the opposite map points of Miami and Seattle, finally choosing Seattle for college as a philosophy major (which, naturally, led him to comedy). Unafraid of hard work, he moved to Los Angeles in 2013 with the lofty goal of 1,000 sets a year, averaging three sets a night. In 2015, Quincy was diagnosed with stage 4 peritoneal mesothelioma and given a year to live. This prognosis was a wake-up call and he had one item on his bucket list: a comedy special. With the help of his friends and a viral Kickstarter campaign, he shared his story on “Conan,” CNN, Kevin Hart’s LOL Network, “You Made It Weird” with Pete Holmes, and Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast. After appearing on “Ellen,” she helped Quincy acquire his first HBO special. Quincy’s unique perspective and incredible crowd work generates shared laughter through seeing things from a different point of view.

Paul Pfau (rhymes with wow) is a modern-day troubadour with a gift for setting the truths of love, life and loss to music. In 2015, he took his talents to Season 8 of “The Voice,” where, as a member of Team Pharrell, he was fortunate enough to work with and be mentored by the likes of Lionel Richie and Nate Ruess (fun., The Format). His EP “Great American Love Story” received airplay on SiriusXM’s The Pulse and CoffeeHouse channels.

Joseph Réohm is a comedic magician and illusionist. Before moving to Hollywood, he began his career in Seattle, where he invented coffee, but decided to do magic instead, based on what he called a dead-end business. He was quickly sought out by celebrities and corporate giants. Even the NBA has called upon Joseph to entertain crowds of over 14,000 fans. You saw him on all the Season 11 “America’s Got Talent” commercials. He was a finalist on TruTV’s “Fake Off,” a sensation on “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” and was the season one finale winner of the show “Wizard Wars” on SyFy. Joseph has received national accolades for both close-up and stage magic and has been featured in magazines such as People, Us Weekly, Bluefire, InkSpired and Ladygunn Magazine, and was seen by millions on television networks such as TruTV, NBC, E, The CW and SyFy!

Lauren Faber is a feral comedian who was raised in a basement by the ‘90s comedy specials of Ellen Degeneres, Paula Poundstone and Elvira Kurt. (Yes, she sees the connection now.) A heckler once asked her, “What is this, PBS?!” and they were right to do so. When she isn’t mortifying her mother, Lauren can be found saving the world with spreadsheets and liking one of her two cats. They were a gift. Don’t do that. Lauren won the titles of NYC’s She-Devil and Carolina’s Funniest Comic and once found herself on public radio with Maria Bamford. Her festival appearances include Laughing Skull, Limestone, Laugh Your Asheville Off, Women in Comedy, 10,000 Laughs, Gilda’s LaughFest, and Cinder Block. She works at Goodnights, The Comedy Attic and The Comedy Zone and has performed with likes of Beth Stelling, Iliza Shlesinger, Godfrey, Mary Mack, Matt Braunger, and Aparna Nancherla.

Javier Colon has a lot of heart. That heart is precisely why he captivated America as winner of the inaugural season of NBC’s hit television show “The Voice.” Whether he was performing “Landslide” with Stevie Nicks or his fan-favorite acoustic rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” the performer captured the hearts of millions. Javier’s original song and debut single, “Stitch By Stitch,” not only clenched the top prize on “The Voice,” but it also became something of a phenomenon. During the first week of its digital release, the song exceeded sales of 145,000 and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition, Javier writes his own music, constantly keeping himself open to inspiration. A family man, he keeps his wife and daughters close to his heart at all times, often writing about them. Javier isn’t simply following anyone else’s path; he’s making his own way.

Born in New Jersey, raised in Atlanta, and, in 2012, winner of Houston’s Funniest Person, Matthew Broussard is not exactly sure where he’s from. He earned a degree in applied mathematics and had a job as a financial analyst before moving to West Hollywood to pursue stand-up comedy full time. His brand of playful, witty humor covers topics from physics and grammar to the hardships of looking like an ‘80s movie villain. Aside from his popular webcomic, mondaypunday.com, he can be seen on “The League,” “The Mindy Project,” “Conan” and “Roast Battle” and has his own “Half Hour Special” on Comedy Central. But his Cajun father and Jewish mother still really want him to take the GMAT.

Being one of 13 children, Arvin Mitchell is no stranger to crowds. Born in St. Louis with nine sisters and three brothers made food seem like a myth at dinnertime. After being disciplined by his mother in front of a full class of his peers, Arvin had no choice but to do stand-up, because his butt hurt so bad after that, he couldn’t sit down. With an array of impressions, stories, gestures and faces, Arvin’s memorable performance is sure to please. As the former cohost of BET’s “Club Comic View,” Arvin has been featured on Kevin Hart’s “One Mic Stand” and Tony Rock’s “The Funny Spot.” In 2018, Arvin’s full-length comedy special, “Circus Purpose,” was released on Vid Angel’s “Dry Bar Comedy.” Nominated as one of NBC’s StandUp for Diversity top comics, Arvin continues to tour colleges, clubs, cruise ships and churches worldwide.

SPOKEN WORD

COMEDY

Ashlee Haze is a poet and spoken word artist from Atlanta by way of Chicago. Earning the nickname “Big 30” because of her consistency in getting a perfect score, she is one of the most accomplished poets in the sport of poetry slam. She has been a part of the Atlanta Poetry circuit for over a decade and has been writing over 15 years. Ashlee was the most-booked artist at the 2017 NACA® National Convention and toured colleges all over the country. She was also a spokesperson for Lane Bryant, appearing in the brand’s spring 2017 campaign.

Originally from Northern California, BT Kingsley came from diverse and humble beginnings, where he turned to stand-up comedy to help “deal” with the crazy world around him. His silly, fearless and wacky physical comedy quickly became popular enough to garner him a role in the film “Muslimah.” Other credits include “Joke Thief” and national TV commercials for Ford Motor Company and Skittles. Kevin Hart took notice of BT and quickly cast him in his Comedy Central series, “Hart of the City.” He made such a strong impression on Hart that he handpicked him to appear in “Kevin Hart Presents Next Level” a series of “HalfHour Specials” on Comedy Central. BT is no stranger to breaking new ground in front of and behind the camera, as you can see from his own program “Necessary Drama,” which is the first dramatic series on Periscope, where he has 2.3 million hearts.

Introducing, Scratch & Bang, a dynamic and energetic live concept rocking venues, festivals and college campuses. Formed with the aim of creating a new type of act, the duo have developed and refined their show into an explosive and energetic live experience. On the Technics 1210’s is DJ Corleone, a renowned and respected turntablist in his own right. Playing opposite is Mike Bowers, a hard-working and talented drummer with years of live experience. Together, they de-construct, re-edit and remix massive dance floor fillers live and on the fly in an uproarious stage show. While Corleone chops-up and scratches tracks the audience know and love, Mike loops some insane live drum breaks over the top creating a wholly interactive show that not only sounds amazing but is visually stunning, too. A campus favorite, Scratch & Bang form the bridge between “live act” and “dance party,” making them an excellent showcase choice.

Since then, he’s made performance painting his focus. His creative mission continues as he takes his talents around the country to entertain audiences of all sizes.
