NACA® SOUTH 2019 REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Welcome to the 2019 NACA® South Regional Conference

Dear NACA® South schools and associates, Welcome to beautiful Chattanooga, TN, and the National Association for Campus Activities’ 2019 South Regional Conference! The entire Regional Conference Planning Committee (RCPC) is excited to welcome you here and for you to experience everything we have been working on this last year. This is a dedicated team of volunteers made up of professional staff, graduate students, associate members and undergraduate students, and together we hope you take this opportunity to conduct business, network with all types of people, volunteer and learn how to make yourself and your school or business even better than before!

Mike Rapay 2019 NACA® South Regional Conference Chair

Here are a few of the highlights of this year’s conference and some tips for success: Doing Business with NACA: Take advantage of the gold mine known as the Campus Activities Marketplace! The Marketplace is where you will build amazing relationships and conduct business with companies to bring programs back to your campus. Don’t underestimate the power of getting to know someone and what their company has to offer. Show up to Block Booking meetings and take advantage of saving your institutions lots of money by coordinating with fellow schools from the South region! You’ll also get limited-time access to special on-site-only pricing because you are here at a live NACA event. Showcases: There will be over 60 performers showcasing what they have to offer you in a variety of ways throughout the convention center and hotel. These are some of the best talent on the college circuit that you can bring back to your campus and share with your student bodies. Just remember that there are hundreds more talented performers and programs that you can bring back to campus that you won’t see on a stage, so be sure to talk with associates about all of their rosters when you’re spending time in the marketplace. Please stay through the entire showcase to get the full experience and show the performers some true Southern hospitality! They have invested time and money just to have the opportunity to perform for you. Professional Development & Educational Sessions: Our RCPC has worked hard to provide a wealth of meaningful and engaging professional development offerings. The 60-plus educational sessions on a variety of learning levels are all on topics related to current issues within higher education, personal development and best practices within a programming board, and all of them fall in line with NACA’s competencies. After the success of a change we initiated last year, we again scheduled the annual professional development luncheon during the boxed lunch session, which means we were able to offer this program free to advisors, graduate students and associates who registered in advance! 60th Anniversary Traveling Display: NACA celebrates 60 years in 2020, and we’re kicking off the celebration a little early as the display travels to all of the other regions this fall conference season. The celebration will culminate during the debut of NACA® Live, the reimagined national convention, from Feb. 22-26 in Denver, CO. Keep an eye out for displays throughout the convention center showcasing highlights of the Association’s history. You might be surprised at some of the names who got their start on NACA’s stage! You’ll want to make sure you’ve downloaded the NACA® App so you’re getting real-time updates on everything. Make sure you’re familiar with NACA® 24/7 so Block Booking meetings go smoothly, and be sure to follow us on social media! Please know the RCPC is exclusively here for you to make this the best conference experience you have ever had. If there is anything that you need, let any one of us know when you see us around the conference or feel free to stop by the registration booth to find some help. Enjoy everything that our conference and host city of Chattanooga has to offer!

The museum was established to preserve the history of AfricanAmerican people and to educate others of the many great contributions African-Americans have made to mankind. The mission is to instill selfesteem and pride, and to increase knowledge, awareness, cultural sensitivity and understanding for the historic experience of African-Americans. The collection is comprised of over 1,000 authentic artifacts, with original documents from historic figures such as Booker T. Washington, Mary McLeod Bethune, George Washington Carver, Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass, Angela Davis, President Barack Obama and many other great African-Americans. The museum has been viewed by over 35,000 people throughout the US on college campuses, at schools and in churches.

Help raise money for the NACA® Foundation We have two great opportunities to help raise money for the 29 scholarships and six research grants that the NACA® Foundation offers each year:

• Best Seat in the House

Stop by the Foundation Fundraising table in the Campus Marketplace to claim the Best Seat in the House. Seats in a reserved seating area will be on sale for select showcases throughout the conference, but you need to act fast because there is a limited supply.

• NACA® South Foundation Kickstarter

This is the fundraiser that rewards you! Get some cool swag and prizes while donating to a good cause. There will be six donation levels ranging from $1 to $40. The Kickstarter levels will be open until the last day of the conference.

Look for the NACA History Display Be sure to take a look at the traveling history display that’s making stops at each of the regional conferences this fall. The anniversary celebration will culminate during the debut of NACA® Live, the reimagined national convention, from Feb. 22-26 in Denver, CO. As you take a look at NACA’s history, you might be surprised at some of the names who got their start on NACA’s stage!

Affinity Chats

Thursday, Sept. 26 • 1–2:30 PM (Leave from Chattanooga Marriott Lobby at 12:30 PM)

Each day of the conference, Room 8 will be dedicated to our Affinity Chats. These conversations are supportive and encouraging opportunities for individuals from different affinities to share their experiences, challenges and successes within campus activities and higher education. Chats will be facilitated by a member of the regional conference planning committee or a professional staff member. These chats are for professional staff and graduate students only.

NACA® South is excited to offer a pre-conference experience at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, home to the Chattanooga African American Museum and the Bessie Smith Performance Hall. The museum’s mission is to preserve and celebrate African American history and culture in Chattanooga through art, education, research and entertainment. The museum was founded in 1983 by 10 visionary leaders from Chattanooga: Roy Noel, Jacola Goodwin, Sallie Crenshaw, Agnes Locke, Leonard Wellington, Elizabeth Champion, Levi Moore, Rayburn Traughber, Catherine Kimble and Rev. Williams Banks. Preregistration is required; limited space is available.

Educational Sessions Related to Diversity and Inclusion There are numerous educational sessions offered during the conference that embrace diversity and inclusion. Go to the diversity section in the NACA® App to find out when they are offered. BEad Yourself

Be sure to stop by the Diversity Initiatives table near registration to participate in our the BEad Yourself pop-up program, which allows you to select beads based on your identity to create a unique combination representing who you are. You can then pin these beads on your name badge as conversation starters and to promote education around identities throughout the conference.

Add Your Pronouns to Your Name Badge Did you know you can select your gender and personal pronoun preferences when you login to your NACA profile? They’ll be included (if you choose) on your name badge at NACA events. If you didn’t get a chance to update your profile before you arrived, no worries! We have stickers on hand at registration.

NACA® SOUTH 2019 REGIONAL CONFERENCE

EDUCATION, DIVERSITY & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FEATURED SPEAKER As director of the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, Jennifer Keup leads operational, strategic and scholarly activities in pursuit of the Center’s mission “to support and advance efforts to improve student learning and transitions into and through higher education.”  Keup has spearheaded the Center’s increase in national and international collaboration and partnerships. The Center’s thought leadership, advancement of publication and professional development outlets, grant acquisition, research productivity and expansion of channels for resource sharing and communication, including online and social media, have also been areas of focus. Keup’s research interests focus on two complementary areas of scholarship: The first-year experience and students in transition, and high-impact practices and institutional interventions. She is a co-author of the book “Designing and Sustaining Successful First-Year Programs: A Guide for Practitioners” and of the “CAS Cross-Functional Framework for First-Year Experiences.” In addition, she serves as an affiliated faculty member in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policies in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina and is multi-degree alumna of UCLA.

Dr. Jennifer Keup National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT LUNCH Friday, Sept. 27 • 12:30–1:45 PM • Room 5

Being Person Driven and Data Informed: Using Data to Make Decisions About Programming and Assessment of Student Groups In an era of declining resources and increasing accountability, data and assessment have never been more important to student success initiatives than today. Data utilization and assessment activities can be an important driver for change, serve as a foundation for strategic planning, and inform efforts for student transition into and through higher education. Yet, the success of assessment initiatives to respond to a need for information, direct decisions and drive change is contingent upon understanding the needs and characteristics of students, establishing meaningful and realistic learning outcomes for their developmental and engagement, and creating a talent-development model for the assessment of their learning, development and success. This presentation will draw from national data, cite standards of educational excellence, and facilitate reflection and dialogue as a foundation for participants to think critically about the appropriate lens for their practices for programming and assessment of student groups. Note: The Professional Development Lunch is open to all professional staff and graduate students who signed up during online registration. PROFESSIONAL EDUCATIONAL SESSION Friday, Sept. 27 • 2–3:15 PM • Room 5

Being Person Driven and Data Informed: Using Data to Make Decisions About Programming and Assessment of Student Groups This session will continue the Professional Development Lunch presentation, taking a deeper dive into the topic.

NACA® South 2020 We can’t wait to see y’all next year in Atlanta! If you want to help plan the next NACA® South Regional Conference, be sure to join the conference program committee interest session from 4:55 to 5:55 PM on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Room 2. NACA® SOUTH 2019 REGIONAL CONFERENCE

ABOUT THE CAMPUS ACTIVITIES MARKETPLACE Hello, NACA® South Attendees! The Campus Activities Marketplace puts you and you fellow campus programmers in direct contact with artists, agencies and vendors who serve the college entertainment market. It’s an ideal setting for connecting with artists who’ve showcased (and learning about those who’re not showcasing this year), novelty vendors, speakers who presented educational sessions, independent artists and various agencies who provide an array of services. Here are some tips to make the most of your time there: • Engage in conversations about your campus needs. For example, a programming calendar with specific dates you’re looking to fill will help steer conversations on availability and routing for an artist. Be prepared to talk about specific campus interests.
 • If an agent does not meet your needs, let them know and either steer them toward someone on your delegation who may be interested, or take their contact information for future reference. Always remember: The next best thing to a “yes” is “no, thank you.” •K now what your campus can and can’t do with regard
to requesting dates, rider accommodations, sound, travel, contracts, etc., and know your budget and calendar to avoid booking conflicts. •S hare appropriate contact information so agents can follow up with you. Be clear about how you prefer to be contacted: phone, email or text. Also, let agents know the best times to contact you. • Interact with all the booths. Some won’t have showcasing acts, so you might not know what they can offer unless you speak to them. •N etwork, make relationships and talk about your school’s culture and what works or doesn’t work on your campus. •V isit acts in their booths after they’ve showcased to thank them and/or welcome them to NACA, and look for booth demos: They can be very informative. Be respectful toward agents and artists. Bookings are their livelihood and they have invested time and money to be available to you. • Take promotional materials and information, but only if someone from your delegation hasn’t yet done so.
 • If you find yourself confused or uncomfortable during an exchange with an agent, tell your advisor or a member of the NACA staff. Marketplace time is intended be fun and productive. • Plan times and locations where your delegation can meet daily to discuss booking possibilities.
 • F ollow up with agents after the conference. Nothing is more frustrating for an agent than having a good conversation in the booth and then hearing nothing after the conference. If you’re still working out program details before you can commit, share your timeline with the agent. And, if you change your mind about an act, let the agent know as soon as possible. • Plan your schedule and distribute your energy appropriately, as it’s important to be present at each Campus Activities Marketplace session for any new information you may discover. •S hare your excitement about the Marketplace and all you learn there. The more excited you are about bringing an act to campus, the better your event will be. •R emember that you are here to do business, maintain and/or create relationships and improve your campus events.

I Love Female Orgasm combines sex education and women’s empowerment with a hearty dose of laughter. We bring a playful, honest approach to this topic, packing the house on college campuses. With warmth and humor, we illuminate the subject of female orgasm for everyone, whether you want to have your first one, you’re hoping to help your partner, or you’re debating the existence of the G-spot or “to fake or not to fake?” Students love that we work in pairs, bringing multiple perspectives to the conversation. Administrators often compliment us on presenting “sexy” material in a tasteful, appropriate manner. And, we know that sexual violence prevention is most effective when it is consent-focused and models positive, healthy sexuality. The program of www.sexualityeducation.com has been presented over 600 times in 41 states and is often praised for being extremely inclusive of people of all genders, gender identities and sexual orientations.

Chris Singleton is a former professional baseball player who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs, and he’s always been a man on a greater mission than just hitting home runs. Today he is an inspirational speaker who has been featured on ESPN’s “E:60,” in Sports Illustrated magazine, USA Today and more. His mother, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, was murdered along with eight other victims at Mother Emanuel AME church in downtown Charleston, SC on June 17, 2015 by a racist white supremacist. Singleton inspired his city and the nation by forgiving the young man who murdered his mother, saying, “Love is stronger than hate.” He inspires audiences of all ages through teaching the power of forgiveness and his personal experiences of adversity at a young age. After hearing Singleton speak, you will feel inspired to love more, do more and treat others the way you want to be treated.

Students Fight Back is a gender- and LGBTQI-inclusive program that is fun, engaging and interactive and employs everything we have learned about campus safety over the past 17 years. Our mission is to teach students how to stand as a united front against violence and rape culture in order to nurture healthier relationships and safer campuses. We work with on-campus resources to ensure integration of messaging and tools so that our work resonates long after we’ve left. We advise from every angle: From bystander intervention to ally support, from consent education to participant self-defense. Rather than focusing solely on the moment of danger, we seek to de-escalate incidents prior to their boiling point and prepare students to handle any difficult situation. Intuition, awareness and boundary setting are at the heart of our message, and those tenets help all of us live healthier and more empowered lives.

The No. 1 alcohol-awareness program in the country, A Shot of Reality is presented by two professional comedians who not only use comedy to engage the audience, they also attack the serious weight of this national campus epidemic. Created by health professionals, local police and members of various alcohol rehab programs, the presenters share a realistic, interactive discussion about the destructive and deadly consequences of alcohol abuse, DUIs, assault, health issues and more. This program has been performed for the Navy, Army and hundreds of colleges and provides a fresh take on a popular topic. A Shot of Reality is many schools’ favorite program to satisfy alcohol-awareness training, especially for orientation. If you’re looking for the best way to educate your students on responsible behavior when encountering alcohol, this is it.

Suicide is a growing problem on college campuses. Anxiety, depression and shame have increased along with our technology. We need to be reminded that we are good enough, we are all in this together, and it’s not our fault. Adam Grabowski delivers this message through an extremely relatable and entertaining comedy show. Named College Comic of the Year multiple times by Campus Activities Magazine and APCA, Grabowski has performed at over 600 colleges and headlined in 48 states. Simon Cowell of “America’s Got Talent” called him “the funniest comedian” in season 11. After nine years of NACA showcases and college touring, Grabowski now speaks about his depression and anxiety, introducing the #SAYITANYWAY Campaign through which he empowers students to talk about their own experiences and mental health. His message about finding your voice and understanding you’re not alone in how you think and feel leaves a much greater impact because it’s a part of a hilarious comedy show. In addition to comedy, he performs an interactive consent lecture called “CONSENT(SUS),” which uses live text-polling to involve the audience in Title IX discussions. If you want hilarious, purposeful programming on your campus, you need Adam Grabowski!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT LUNCHEON « 12:30–1:45 PM « Room 5 Being Person Driven and Data Informed: Using Data to Make Decisions About Programming and Assessment of Student Groups In an era of declining resources and increasing accountability, data and assessment have never been more important to student success initiatives than today. Ashlee Haze is a poet and spoken word artist from Atlanta by way of Chicago. Earning the nickname “Big 30” because of her consistency in getting a perfect score, she’s one of the most accomplished poets in the sport of poetry slam. She has been a part of the Atlanta poetry circuit for over a decade and has been writing over 15 years. Haze was the most booked artist at the 2017 NACA® National Convention and is in the midst of a 100-plus city college tour. She’s also a spokesperson for Lane Bryant, having appeared in the brand’s spring 2017 campaign.

Coffey Anderson grew up in the small town of Bangs, TX. He attended a smalltown college and borrowed a guitar from a then-girlfriend’s dad. Learning chords and singing in his dorm room would attract his fellow college students to come listen. After singing in a local opening slot for a band that came to town, Anderson developed a small buzz and he never looked back! With YouTube and Facebook combined, he has over 500 million views, has sold over 500,000 iTunes downloads, has over 107,000 YouTube subscribers, over 520,000 Facebook likes, over 31,000 Twitter followers and over 57,000 Instagram followers! Anderson is constantly touring, performing at big concerts like Rodeo Houston, meeting the president at the White House, and singing live on VH1’s “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party,” while still doing county fairs, private events, festivals and faith-based shows. He is also a national commercial actor with the likes of Disney, Taco Bell and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Comedian Paul Schissler is a total badbutt: He’ll challenge your view of “clean comedy” with a mix of embarrassing stories, fears and explosive optimism, leading you to laugh about all those things your mom told not to laugh about as a kid – sex, crazy family members and telling everyone you wanted to grow up to be a raccoon. Schissler has appeared on “The Steve Harvey Show,” Discovery Channel and FOX, was in the New York Comedy Festival and he starred in an episode of the “CoupleThings” web series. He regularly performs around New York City at Gotham Comedy Club, The Creek & The Cave, NY Comedy Club, The Stand, The Triad Theater and other venues. He also performs and hosts private events, conferences and corporate functions.

Comprised of Joe Murphy, Ryan Hornibrook, Mark Altamuro and Matt Bosco, Kicking Sunrise released their first single, “Here’s to the Sunrise,” in 2015. The song caught the attention of CBS Philadelphia, quickly leading to the group becoming their “house band” and the station adopting the song as the theme song for its morning show, “CBS3 Mornings.” The band spent the next two years working on building themselves as artists, songwriters and performers, playing shows that were a mix of both cover and original music, up and down the East Coast. The band released their most recent EP, “When It’s Right,” in the winter of 2018. Kicking Sunrise has since played several all-original shows in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania/New York area, including a stint opening for multi-platinum recording artist O-Town. Their latest single, “Right One, Wrong Time,” is currently available on all streaming platforms.

Danielle Perez is a disabled comedian best known as the woman in a wheelchair, with no feet, who won a treadmill on “The Price Is Right.” Her hilarious reaction to winning the awkward prize landed her a guest appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Perez’s bubbly stage presence and quick wit make her comedy accessible, even when the venues aren’t. Fat, feminist and fierce, this bold Latina isn’t afraid to get personal. She has been profiled by CNN, Refinery29 and Great Big Story, and in 2018, she was highlighted as one of the 13 Powerful Women Who Are Making L.A. a Better Place by Los Angeles magazine. Online you can find Perez hosting an episode of MTV’s “Decoded” and teaching Quinta B how to be petty in “Quinta vs. Everything.” A 2018 “StandUp NBC” semifinalist, she has opened for Maria Bamford and has performed with Nick Kroll & Friends.

Roni Medina is a fearless artist with stunning attributes. She was born on Dec. 2, 1992 in Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico and was raised in Houston, TX by her parents alongside three sisters. She became fascinated with the world of music at age 11 and has been singing ever since. She recorded her first demo when she was 14 and decided to give it away as a party favor at her quinceañera celebration. In 2009, she re-wrote Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” to “Eating Healthy in the USA” for a school contest that her younger sister was participating in; hysterically enough, they won the grand prize. Medina began taking private vocal lessons while simultaneously taking on the challenge of acting. She participated in two indie films and the first season of “Step Up: High Water” (YouTube Originals) in 2017. A few months later, a friend introduced her to three-time Grammy-award recipient Phil Tan, who then introduced her to the team who would later record her first single.

During Joe & Nick’s VCR Party, comedians Joe Pickett (The Onion) and Nick Prueher (CBS’ “The Late Show with David Letterman”) present a hilarious, guided tour through their unbelievable VHS collection. As featured on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “America’s Got Talent,” “Tosh.0,” TruTV and ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Joe & Nick resurrect these forgotten video treasures and serve them up in the funniest, most jaw-dropping show on the college circuit. VCR Party was founded in New York City in 2004 and has gone on to sell out hundreds of shows around the world, including the HBO Comedy Festival, Just For Laughs and Bonnaroo. “The biggest collection of weird videos I’ve ever seen,” –Jimmy Fallon. “Skull-crushingly funny,” – The Onion A.V. Club. “Hysterical and brilliant,” – Time Out. “A comedy sensation.” – The Guardian.

Ian Lara is really just a regular guy from Queens. Usually, you can catch him performing every night in some of the best and worst shows in New York City, or he’s on the road at a club or college near you. He will probably be a household name but really all he wants is to get big enough so he can wear those huge hats Pharrell wears to awards shows.

Singer-songwriter Ryan LaPerle joined the Boston music scene back in 2008 and has been flourishing since, sharing the stage with national artists like Matthew Perryman Jones, The Kin and Joshua James. His passion has always been to sing. As a child, he would find himself singing Michael Jackson and other Motown favorites in the car with his mother. This passion has since grown and transcends when he’s on stage. In 2009, LaPerle self-produced and released his first full-band EP, “Disguise.” During the past eight years, he has won singer-songwriting contests throughout Boston and played venues such as Berklee Performance Center and Cafe 939, The Middle East, Club Passim, The Living Room in New York City and numerous colleges and universities, and he has been selected to showcase or as a showcase alternate at five NACA conferences.

Averaging about 10-15 shows a month, Angie Keilhauer has played over 1,000 live shows all over the US and Central America while building an incredibly vast and loyal fan base. In just five years of touring, the Latin American country singer has produced two original top-five albums, landed on #TeamBlake on NBC’s “The Voice,” released a Disney single with Jordan Fisher and was featured in Rolling Stone Country as one of their Top 10 “Artists You Need to Know.” Having just finished a tour opening for Jake Owen, Chris Janson and Jordan Davis, she recently released her latest single, “Leave California,” in May 2019.

As one of the youngest rising comedians in Portland, Chris Johnson has made his way through the Northwest circuit … in just four years of doing stand-up based in his hometown. Nowadays, he storms onto every stage with a heavy arsenal of quips and jabs about his parents, his relationships, hiphop, anime and, of course, his Northwest/Down-South upbringing.

Jae Nichelle is a young poet and spoken word artist currently residing in Atlanta. She writes to validate herself and everyone who has ever felt what they have to say doesn’t matter. She was a member of the 2017 Team Slam New Orleans and the captain and founder of Tulane University’s Slam Poetry team, Rhyme Verses Rhythm, which placed seventh at the 2018 College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational. She placed fourth at the 2017 Texas Grand Slam, from which her work received national recognition, and first at the 2017 Women on the Bayou slam.

Conor Clemmons is undeniably country music – energetic, genuine and captivating. Being a world-traveled entertainer, professional singer, cruise headliner and star of the Carolina Opry are just a few accomplishments he’s added his résumé. With an eclectic musical background, he’s often been asked, “Why country music?” His response: “I love every aspect of the genre. The authentic musicality and incredible storytelling that country music excels at has inspired me since I was a young kid.” Clemmons released his debut EP in 2016, which entered the iTunes country charts at number 15. His single “Top It Off” would make its way to iHeartCountry Radio later that year. Blending his broad vocal background with a passion for country music has resulted in an exceptional sound. There are many stimulating aspects of Clemmons and his music that sit outside the box of traditional country.

From the very start, funnyman Ronnie Jordan has proven he’s a comedy force to be reckoned with. After only one year on the comedy scene, the kid voted “wittiest” in high school was crowned Rookie of the Year by the famed Uptown Comedy Corner in Atlanta. Jordan is quickly making a name for himself as a comic’s comic and has already shared dates with heavyweights Bruce Bruce, Earthquake and Dave Chappelle. He became the crowd favorite on the King and Queens of Comedy Tour and served as an opening act on the Queens of Comedy tour, which featured famed female comedians Sommore, Monique and Adelle Givens. No stranger to television, he has been featured on BET’s “Comic View,” “Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand Up” and “P. Diddy Presents Bad Boys of Comedy.” He is currently touring the nation’s colleges and universities on his “College Material Tour.”

Lakin is one of those rare artists who can be both raw and refined, expressing deeply personal truths with poetic lyrics and stately songwriting. Garnering favorable comparisons to John Mayer, Sara Bareilles and Alicia Keys, Lakin has opened for such acts as Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat, Brian McKnight and Gladys Knight. In addition to these marquee engagements, Lakin remains a fixture around college campuses, having played 100 colleges across the US over the past few years. A native Southern Californian, Lakin grew up in a musical household. Her father is an accomplished jazz musician who toured with George Benson. Lakin’s mother taught her how to play piano and introduced her to the cathartic process of writing poetry. Her latest album, “Silent Conversations,” showcases these influences, engaging the painfully challenging intersection between love and loss. This aptly titled collection of folk-influenced soul-pop unfolds a narrative of salvation through honesty.

Pop artist Matthew Schuler has grown to find a voice that has touched millions. In fall 2013, he auditioned for NBC’s three-time Emmy-winning singing competition show “The Voice,” making it to the top six. Since “The Voice,” Schuler has performed all over the country, working with the likes of Shaggy, Mike Posner and Diana Ross, as well as around the globe in Jamaica, South Africa, Uganda, Croatia and Germany. He is featured in two films, “I’m Not Ashamed” (fall 2016) and “Because of Gracia” (spring 2017). He released his debut EP, “Baby Steps,” in January 2018 and is slated for new releases in 2019.

Multiple world-record traveler, Mikah Meyer has been featured by Upworthy, NPR, NBC’s “The Today Show,” Thrillist, The Guardian and thousands of outlets globally for his epic journeys – including becoming the youngest person to experience all 417 units of the National Park Service. Inspired after losing his road trip-loving father to cancer during his freshman year of college, Meyer uses his record-breaking travel to inspire others to follow their dreams before it’s too late. Named a Social Media Warrior by MTV and a Sexy Travel Guru and Emerging Leader in the Outdoor Industry, Meyer’s background as a professional singer/improv performer allows for a heartfelt and humor-infused message that’s been heard across Europe and Australasia and in every US state/territory. As an openly gay outdoorsman and Christian, he offers additional niche talks that use his travels to share a message of inclusion, customized to each audience’s emotional journeys in the above areas.

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf first came to public attention as a Louisiana State University freshman sensation then named Chris Jackson. At just 6 feet, 1 inch and 165 pounds, he averaged 30 points per game with a hair-trigger jumper and acrobatic layups. Despite having Tourette syndrome, he went pro after his sophomore year, was picked third in 1990 by the Denver Nuggets and converted to Islam. By the 1995-96 campaign, Abdul-Rauf was doing unguardable Stephen Curry things, such as giving Utah 51 points and dropping 32 on Michael Jordan when dealing the Chicago Bulls a rare loss in their 72win season. That season also is when Abdul-Rauf’s conscience told him not to stand for the anthem. At first, nobody noticed as he stretched or stayed inside the locker room instead. When a reporter finally asked about it, the issue exploded. Like Colin Kaepernick, Abdul-Rauf said he viewed the American flag as a symbol of oppression and racism. Abdul-Rauf also said standing for the anthem would conflict with his Muslim faith.

He has appeared on Sirius XM, TruTV and The Travel Channel, and was the host of the internationally syndicated TV show “The Movie Loft” for two years. The New York Times called him the “charming M.C.” of the children’s variety show he performed in from 2015-2017. Currently 10 years sober, Holbert hilariously uses his past struggles with alcohol as fodder for his brutally honest comedy. With jokes and autobiographical stories, his main goal is to de-stigmatize challenging topics such as mental health, addiction and family dysfunction. When he’s not on stage, he also works as a substance abuse counselor and recovery coach. An active member in his sober community, Holbert is married and lives in Brooklyn.

College suicide prevention speaker Frank King wrote for 20 years on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” and was featured on CNN’s “Business Unusual.” He’s a comedian and podcast personality. Depression and suicide run in his family, and he’s thought about killing himself more times than he can count. Although King has fought a lifetime battle with depression and thoughts of ending his life, he turned that long dark journey of the soul into a TED Talk called “A Matter of Laugh or Death” (FrankTEDTalk.com) and shares his lifesaving insights on mental health with college audiences. As an inspirational and motivational college speaker, he uses his life lessons – alongside lessons learned as a consumer of mental and physical healthcare – to start the conversation, giving people who battle mental illness permission to give voice to their feelings and experiences surrounding depression and suicide. His primary goal is to give people the tools to help those who are suffering and to save lives.

David Zach is the lead singer and songwriter for the rock band Remedy Drive, as well as an advocate in the fight against human trafficking. When not touring with the band, Zach spends time overseas as a volunteer undercover operative with the abolitionist group The Exodus Road. While overseas, he spends time in brothels and clubs in the red-light districts where underage girls and boys are sold by the hour. His role is to identify instances of minors being sold and to capture actionable evidence of their trafficking using covert gear, some of which is funded by the Remedy Drive community and fan base. That evidence is used to make rescues and arrests in partnership with local authorities. The idea that ordinary human beings can impact change for freedom and justice is central to the message Zach brings to audiences across the world.

A self-described tumultuous indie-rock quartet, Connecticut’s Bonsai Trees was founded in 2011 by members James MacPherson and Nick Sokol. Based in Hartford, the band is rounded out by Larry Sniscak and Dan Spence, solidifying their energetic, yet introspective, lineup. Having accumulated nearly 150,000 Spotify streams on their current discography and maintaining a seemingly relentless touring schedule, Bonsai Trees is everything but slow-moving. Often categorized as indie rock with distinct traces of emo influence, Bonsai Trees has been traveling the United States in support of their most recent independent LP, “Learn To Grow” (released May 3, 2019), their third full-length album. An energetic and melodic 10-track collection, “Learn To Grow” is filled to the brim with memorable hooks and turbulent emotion. With extensive North American touring history (and an unprecedented catalog of releases), the band has been laser-focused on recording a new EP, a body of work they believe is “bigger and better” than all prior releases. Although a release date is yet to be announced for the upcoming EP, Bonsai Trees is poised to keep all eyes on them.

In the not-so-distant future, when the first urban comedy dictionary is finally published, there will be a short list of definitions and references under the word “electrifying.” At the top of that list, taking up the majority of the page, will be a smiling, action photo of a young stand-up comedian and future comedy hall of famer, 2010 Bay Area Black Comedy Competition winner and cast member of Nick Cannon’s “Wild ‘N Out,” Nate Jackson. From the moment he takes the stage and grabs the microphone until he puts it to rest back in its stand, you can actually feel the electric comedy energy surging through your body in the form of constant laughter. And on your way out of the club or theater, and even into the next day, you’re still feeling the comical and, in some cases, medicinal effects of experiencing a Nate Jackson comedy show.

Reggie Conquest is from Philadelphia, where he started his comedy career at the legendary Laff House. Since moving to New York City, he has performed on FuseTV’s “Stand Up and Deliver” and written for TruTV’s “Impractical Jokers.” His stand-up has been featured at Brooklyn Comedy Festival, Skankfest, Hoboken Comedy Festival and Philadelphia Comedy Festival. You can see him perform regularly at clubs and bars in the city.

Combining blues and rock with a touch of country and a heap of nostalgia, Kevin Cunningham and Matt Pillion have spent the past two years touring in support of their critically acclaimed “Bend With the Wind” LP. The tour included over 300 dates plus festivals such as SXSW, Summerfest, Sturgis, Rocklahoma and the Sundance Film Festival. They opened for iconic artists such as Miranda Lambert, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Robert Randolph and Blackberry Smoke. They also spent two months touring as support for the Marshall Tucker Band in theaters across the US. Their energetic, crowd-pleasing performances subsequently led to a 27-date European tour. Stolen Rhodes will be on the road throughout 2019, including stops all over the Northeast, Southeast, South and Midwest. They’ll be opening for different national acts, along with touring on their own. Besides participating in large music festivals, the band is in preproduction for a new album.

Headphone Disco invented the “silent dance party” format and has been touring the world with it for the past eight years. Performing some huge college shows led to it being voted Best Novelty Act by the readers of Campus Activities Magazine as well as many other awards. So how does it work? We arrive at your school (or showcase) with our two resident DJs and our two- or three-channel wireless headphones. Our DJs spin different styles of music side by side over our different wireless channels. Guests select which DJ they want to listen to using the switch on their headphones (provided by us), then get busy on the dance floor. Imagine a dance floor where one half of the crowd is singing along to One Direction while the other half is doing The Wobble! Bizarre and mind-blowing, but most of all it’s a huge amount of fun.

NACA® SOUTH 2019 REGIONAL CONFERENCE

NACA POLICIES Mission Statement The National Association for Campus Activities is the recognized leader in higher education knowledge, ideas and resources for campus life. Definition of Diversity Diversity is an attribute and a goal. As an attribute, diversity is ethnic identification/race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion, economic status and the many other aspects of our lives which define the family of humanity. As a goal, diversity refers to the intentional valuing, respecting and inclusion of all peoples. NACA recognizes the diversity of all its members and supports the development and implementation of programs and services that achieve this goal. Non-Discrimination, Diversity Advancement and Affirmative Action Principles NACA is committed to advancing diversity development and the principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action through programs, services and volunteer involvement. To ensure compliance with these principles, the organization: • Will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, economic status, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, ethnic background or disability in any of its policies, procedures or practices; • Will promote vigorous efforts to enhance, develop and increase a diverse volunteer pool in all areas of the Association and Foundation; • Will actively promote diversity in programs and services; • Will expect all volunteers and NACA Office staff to consistently display a sensitivity to diversity and the principles of affirmative action; • Will promote the importance of eliminating discriminatory and/ or culturally insensitive language, behavior and content from NACA-sponsored activities and will urge all members and guests of the Association or Foundation to cooperate in this effort. There is no intent to support censorship. The purpose is to induce thought and advance planning in an effort to ensure that showcase performances, Campus Activities Marketplace displays, educational sessions and other NACA-sponsored activities reflect appropriate diversity and sensitivity in their plans and actions. NACA Cancellation Policies NACA reserves the right to cancel any program. Causes for cancellation may include, but are not limited to, low participation by schools and/or associates, acts of God, etc. In the case of a program cancellation, NACA will reimburse only those fees paid to NACA; any travel, lodging or other non-NACA fees will not be reimbursed. NACA Event Safety & Responsibility Policy NACA is committed to providing a safe, productive and welcoming environment for all event/meeting participants and NACA staff. All participants, including, but not limited to, attendees, speakers, volunteers, exhibitors, NACA staff, service providers and others are expected to abide by the NACA® Civility Statement and the Event Safety & Responsibility Policy. This policy applies to all NACA meeting-related events, including those sponsored by organizations other than NACA but held in conjunction with NACA events, in public or private facilities. Responsible Drinking At some NACA networking events, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are served. NACA expects participants at our events who are 21 years of age or older and choose to drink to do so responsibly. NACA and meeting host event staff have the right to deny service to participants for any reason, and may require a participant to leave the event.

54

Personal Safety and Security NACA works diligently to provide a safe and secure environment at its meetings and events by working with venue staff to make sure meeting participants are safe. We ask that all attendees report any questionable or concerning activity to NACA staff so that they can take immediate action. No concern is too small; if you see something, say something. • Be aware of your surroundings at all times. • Use the buddy system when walking to and from the event venue, and networking event locations during early or late hours. • Don’t wear your meeting badge on the street. Take it off when you leave the building/venue. • Don’t carry a lot of cash or credit cards. Leave them in your hotel room safe. • Don’t leave personal property unattended anywhere, anytime. If it is an emergency or if you need immediate assistance, first call 911, then ask any NACA staff member or the on-site security personnel to help you. Unacceptable Behavior NACA has zero tolerance for any form of discrimination or harassment, including but not limited to sexual harassment by participants or our staff at our meetings. If you experience harassment or hear of any incidents of unacceptable behavior, NACA asks that you complete the information found on the Incident Report Form so that we can take appropriate action if necessary. In the event you do not receive a response to your filed report form within 20 days, please direct an email to the Executive Director of NACA. Unacceptable behavior includes: • Harassment, intimidation or discrimination in any form. • Physical or verbal abuse of any attendee, speaker, volunteer, exhibitor, NACA staff member, service provider or other meeting guest. Specific examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to: • Verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, national origin, inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces or in presentations, or threatening or stalking any attendee, speaker, volunteer, exhibitor, NACA staff member, service provider or other meeting guest. • Disruption of presentations at sessions, in the exhibit hall or at other events organized by NACA at the meeting venue, hotels or other NACA-contracted facilities. Bias Definition Bias targets a marginalized identity whether real or perceived to be a part of a recognizable group or affiliation. Legally protected identities include: actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status or disability. NACA also recognizes that bias may occur as a result of one’s actual or perceived age, ancestry, sex, gender expression, citizenship or immigration status, marital status, socio-economic class or religious practice. The second list of identities are not legally protected identities in the United States but are affirmed through NACA’s Core Values of diversity, multicultural competence and human dignity. NACA reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from the meeting without warning or refund, in response to any incident of unacceptable behavior, and NACA reserves the right to prohibit attendance at any future meeting.

NACA® SOUTH 2019 REGIONAL CONFERENCE

NACA POLICIES Civility Statement Prominent among the values that define the NACA community is civility, which includes mutual respect, fairness and politeness. Membership in any community requires a concern for the common good for all who belong to that community. Each individual may possess different ideas, as well as different ways of communicating those ideas, particularly in a community as varied and diverse as an association. Because of these differences, respect and civility are integral to maintaining the quality of the Association environment. Respect and civility should therefore be afforded to all individuals regardless of role within the Association. This includes treating people with courtesy and consideration, acting and speaking judiciously and behaving professionally. All members of the Association community are called upon to promote and value this ethic of common respect and civility. We will encourage discussion with a goal of instilling an appreciation for the importance of fair-mindedness, personal responsibility and respect for differing opinions. At such occasions, members will always be strongly encouraged to observe common standards of decorum and to display a respectful tenor. We will also consider appropriate steps to be taken when members of our community do not respect these standards. NACA’s Alcohol and Other Substance Abuse Statement The National Association for Campus Activities and the NACA® Foundation recognize the serious threats alcohol and other substance abuse present to college populations, the entertainment industry, and to society as a whole. We realize the Association is not immune to problems associated with abuse. NACA is committed to addressing this issue through various activities, programs and educational efforts on regional and national levels. All NACA members and volunteers are encouraged to uphold the Association’s statement in spirit and action; however, NACA has no responsibility for the conduct or behavior of event attendees. Alcohol served outside of any official event (an official event is one endorsed or hosted by NACA) is not the responsibility of NACA, but is instead the responsibility of the individual/group/firm coordinating, hosting, promoting or holding the activity. All responsibility for determining whether participants at the activity are underage and for complying with applicable state and local laws rests solely with the individual/group/firm coordinating, hosting, promoting or holding the activity, and is not in any way the responsibility of NACA or any of its employees or representatives. In the event NACA becomes the subject of a claim or loss arising from violation of this policy by any person, group or business entity, or service of alcohol at any non-official event, that person, group or business entity agrees that it shall indemnify and hold harmless NACA from and against all resulting claims and losses, including NACA’s costs and attorney’s fees, that arise from or relate to violation of this policy and/or service of alcohol at said non-official event. Who May Attend NACA Events No delegate will be allowed to attend any NACA event function or to enter the Campus Activities Marketplace until their registration fees are fully paid. Delegates may register under only one membership category for any NACA activity. Any member who has an outstanding debt with NACA of more than 60 days must clear that debt before registering.
