Connect Inside and Outside the Classroom
Share Your Expertise Share your expertise with our current students. We have several opportunities to connect students and professionals in the classroom, through our Career Center or at your place of employment. One such opportunity is the Externship Program. Help a student confirm a major, engage in “soft recruiting for your business or organization and give back to your alma mater all at the same time by volunteering for our Externship Program. This job shadowing program involves hosting a student for one to five days at your workplace, and the only cost is your time and valuable insight. If you would enjoy coming to campus and presenting to students in a classroom or small group setting, we are happy to arrange those opportunities.
Events Consider coming back to campus for our Homecoming event, an alumni event, a lecture or one of several other events hosted by the Haworth College of Business. We always welcome alumni at our on-campus events. Each year we hold regional events in several geographic areas. Interested in helping to connect alumni in your area? Please contact us to be a regional event volunteer, for assistance in organizing your own Haworth College of Business alumni gathering or for information regarding event sponsorship.
All Around the
Go Global Help us expand our global network. As our students travel abroad for immersion courses, we often have the need to arrange plant or site visits in countries outside the United States. Additionally, international internship opportunities are always needed; there is no better way for our students to experience global business than to participate in it! If your business has international operations, you can help by putting us in touch with the right people to make your business a part of our network. Alumni Profiles, Class Notes and Videos What’s new with you? Promotion, marriage, retirement … We want to hear your news so that we can include you in our Haworth College of Business magazine, Experience Haworth News. The Haworth College of Business is seeking to gather videos from alumni about a typical day in their career life or videos that speak to why they decided to attend Western. For prospective students, we need to answer the question, “Why Western and the Haworth College of Business?” For current students, we need to show them “What can I do with my major?” Please consider contributing a short video for this project. Please make sure to update your address with WMU so that you get our publications, e-communications, event invitations and volunteer opportunities. Internships and Hiring Haworth College of Business Graduates Hiring Haworth College of Business interns and graduates is one of the most important ways that you can support the College. Our interns and graduates bring both problem-solving skills and a professionalism that will enhance your company or organization. In addition, the Career Center at the Haworth College of Business, which was completed in 2008, provides state-of-the-art interview suites where you can interview candidates on campus. Please contact us or visit www.wmich.edu/business/thecareercenter for more information.
Wear the Colors – Loud and Proud An easy way to support WMU is to wear your Western gear in your home community. Wear your sweatshirt to work on casual days, to your child’s school, to the grocery store or to the airport. You can increase Western’s visibility just through what you wear and will likely spark some interesting conversations and connections at the same time. We all remember Tim Allen’s promotion of Western through his sweatshirts on Home Improvement; as alumni, you too have an audience – your local community – with which you can share your WMU pride.
