Our group of swimmers at the Zone Swimming Champs at Splash Palace today.

Thank you to all the support from our families in our annual Easter raffle and many thanks to Michelle Fraser who has coordinated this again this year. Part of our schools ongoing success is the way that many parents step up and volunteer to help out in a multitude of ways across many facets of school life. Their effort does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. We raised $1527. Mythbusters iPad workshop On Wednesday 17 April, 7pm at school (the last week of this term) we are running a parent 'sandpit' time to present and discuss why we are using iPads at school, how we are using them in our classrooms and what we are actually doing with them. Mark this evening in your diaries and come along - whether you have a device like this or not - and be prepared to ask questions, receive answers and participate in what is a shared learning experience for our parents.

Term 1 School Accounts Thank you to the families who have already paid these Term 1 accounts These accounts are issued once per term. Please assist us by making prompt payments of these items which are for costs already incurred, and in most cases already paid for, by the school. 2013 School Donations Just a reminder that the payment of these are fully tax deductible and can be included in the tax return if paid for before the end of March. Receipts will be clearly marked to indicate 'donations' to meet taxation requirements. While the payments of these are voluntary we always have a very high percentage of families who support what our school is working hard to provide for all our children.

Wednesday after Easter. Remember to arrange with your child's teacher if you intend picking your child up from the swimming pool after 2pm otherwise they will come back to school on the bus for a normal end of day pick up and bus run. Easter Break It has been a few years since we have had an Easter break outside of the Term 1 holiday. This is a long first term, so enjoy the few days away - either at home or wherever you go. Please travel safely and we'll see you back Wednesday, April 3rd.

Regards Tim Lovelock Principal

Week 8 Term 1

RIMU 3 (Mrs Godby) A big thank you once again to those of you who have sent post cards to the children, they really enjoy getting them. Most of you will see that your child has some spelling words to review from previously learned lists. These are the words to concentrate on for the next week. It is quite common for children to learn but not retain knowledge around basic facts and spelling words. This makes it important to review what they already know to help sustain recent new learning. I hope everyone has a great break and that the Easter Bunny brings lots of goodies. Certificates: Lucy Sparrow and Caleb Devery RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik) This term our inquiry has been about how to get along and work with others in a group. These are the children's thoughts and tips about working in a group… • Carter; Tell yourself it will be okay when it doesn't go your way. • Lachlan; Be kind and say that's a good idea. • Sarah; Take a bit of each idea and make one great idea. • Lily; Listen to other peoples ideas. There will be no new set maths or spelling homework for next week because of the short week this week and next week. Please feel free to visit the class blog and go into Study Ladder for basic facts practise.   Have a safe and happy Easter. MIRO 5 (Mrs Kahukura) Miro have been working on demonstrating cooperative and positive teamwork skills. We have discovered that it is easy to talk about these skills and strategies but more difficult to put into practice. • You have to agree in a group. It is hard when you don't agree. Grace D • It takes hard work to remember to include everyone. Matthew • I like it when everyone agrees and gets along. Lily • We haven't been arguing because we are listening and sharing our ideas. Grace • I was a good team member because I was listening to them. Fletcher • Mahi pai with the basic facts practice.

Remember each time you practice, you are improving :) Have a fantastic Easter break. Kiri MANUKA 6 (Mrs Carr) Thank you to Helen Roberts who brought some baby bunnies into Manuka for us to see. We are looking forward to swimming starting next week, remember to have all your gear ready! I hope that everyone has a fantastic family break over Easter. Certificates: Liam Roberts for presenting his work to a higher standard and being organised with his homework. Lucy McKee for being responsible and organised with all her belongings. TOTARA 7 (Miss Duncan) We have had a great week on the iPads in our class. We have learned how to mirror from our ipads with Apple TV. That means we can show what we are doing and learning about from our device and it shows up on the Interactive Whiteboard. Milly  • Today we learned a new fun game in Maths to get our maths brains working. We were very competitive to get the quickest answer. Olivia Cooper • Swimming starts next week. I like freestyle and jumping off the big board. I go to swimming lessons as well so more swimming will be fun. Greer KOWHAI 2 (Mr Herring) This week we're digging deeper into our inquiry on Team Work. Groups are presenting their research on a team or group and how they develop strong relationships with each other. It's really interesting to hear about the strengths and approaches taken by sports teams, companies and groups. We're talking at the moment about using 'I' statements when conflict does happen. 'I don't like it when you say that and it makes me feel really stink.' It's a great way to get your message across in a positive way. You may hear this occasionally at home?

from the classroom

KAURI 8 (Mrs Polaschek) We are getting a lot better at working in a team. This week we have been creating 'creatures' with our bodies that move, and working together to create a collage coat- ask us about "The Tiny Woman's Coat".  In Maths we have been working on counting and the number that comes before.  We need a lot of practice!  We are looking forward to the Easter break.  The homework books will come home as well as some extra reading books.  Have a wonderful break, all ready for swimming on Wednesday! Certificates- Welcome to Alex Stevens and Harvey Robertson!
