Easter break There have been some questions around the upcoming Easter break. Next week the Easter break runs from Friday 29th March to Tuesday 2nd April which is also a day the Ministry of Education has designated that schools are to be shut for. School starts back on Wednesday 3rd April. School Website The home address is the same but the 'host' of our school website has changed. Please note that if you have bookmarked a page where the website used to 'live' then you will need to navigate back to that page via our new 'host'. School Account Being posted home today are the Term 1 accounts for specific school activities that your child has been, or is, part of.

• Athletics: this covers the bus cost to the Southern Zone event at Surrey Park. • ICT Resource fee: this gives some support to the ongoing cost for our school to provide our iPad mini resource, wifi development and fibre rollout. • Paper Resource fee: this helps with some of our ongoing cost of providing classroom material and the printing of all our home, school communication. • Swimming Bus - This cost is a dollar a day to cover some of the cost over and above the ILT subsidy. Thank you for your support in the payment of these individual school accounts for your child/ ren. It is a core part of our schools operation. If you have any questions around these accounts then please don't hesitate to make contact with me. Regards Tim Lovelock Principal

Week 7 Term 1

Certificates: Welcome to Cooper McDonald and great kotahitanga Ethan Corson!

RIMU 3 (Mrs Godby) It is good to see so many children with drink bottles at school. If your child has not got one at school any small plastic bottle will do. Some of the children are having trouble recognising their clothes so if parents could label items it would make it easier for the class to return the clothes to the right person. We are all trying to get really fast at our basic facts if your child has lost their set of flash cards please let me know and I can get another set ready for them.

TOTARA 7 (Miss Duncan) • We did some hard maths and learned how to put them together. Karlee • The new mini ipads are very useful in our class because we can learn more things at the same time. Will • The mini ipads are very cool and are very handy for our maths and reading. Jack Kowhai 2 (Mr Herring) This week we've started a project about a story our Toy Story. We're bringing a toy to school and writing a narrative describing it's character. Look out for our first drafts on our ultranet portfolios. We're also finishing our artwork on Kotahitanga. We've created a painting using James Rizzi as our inspiration for using solid colours and bold lines. You can see these paintings on our walls and also on our media page on Ultranet. We'd love some comments!

Certificates: Ricky and Finn P.

RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik) We are all excited about the arrival of three iPad mini's into our classroom. These are a versatile tool that we can use to support our learning.  Today a math's group recorded and explained their learning using show me.  Another group of children retold the big book using puppet pals.  In inquiry we are continuing to develop our cooperative group strategies.  We have been learning about how to cope when our idea is not used by the group.

MIRO 5 (Mrs Kahukura) What an amazing assembly by the students of Miro. Kapai for modelling clear speaking and sensible behaviour. Well done everyone. You did the school and yourselves proud. This week we are having sandpit time with our new iPad minis. This is when we take the time to try the new apps and reflect on how we will use these in our learning. • I enjoy using the apps like ultra net. Eilish • I am enjoying learning about the apps and how I can use it for reading and maths. Josh Lawson • I enjoy using the iPad minis in our reading rotation. Amelia. • I like using the iPad minis in the class for study ladder. Harley Have a great week Kiri MANUKA 6 (Mrs Carr) We are thankful to Melissa, Taleeha and Jabari's Mum for bringing in a swan plant with a chrysalis on it. It was lovely to watch the process and see the magnificent Monarch butterfly flutter outside and into the world on a warm and sunny autumn day. Certificates: Lydia and Sacha Horton for working hard in their homework.

KAURI 8 (Mrs Polaschek) Welcome to Alex Stevens and Harvey Robertson and their families to Kauri this week. It's great to see our new children come to school each day excited and keen to learn, with big smiles on their faces!  We had some great team work last week when some children worked together to find out how to build a tower from our construction equipment.   They had to learn to listen to others ideas and put them together to make something even better!  Ka pai!  We are building on this thinking this week- it's hard to listen to others ideas when you really want to do your own!
