Stormy night By Natalie Cantù

That stormy night was the beginning of his curse. Toby was driving at all speed, his hands were sweating and he felt much smaller. His heart was beating and he couldn’t breathe. Everything had happened in the blink of an eye. “It was not your fault, it was the rain’s fault….and the old man”. “What was the old man doing at that time? It had been an accident”. It had been a long day at the office, so he felt very tired. “What a mess!”. The only thing he wanted was to get home and put on pajamas. He came back, wishing the corpse had disappeared, but that didn’t happen. The man was still there, lying on the Photography 1. By Chiaravi wet asphalt. “What would I do with the corpse? how could I get rid of him?” He thought. He started to pace up and down, after thinking for a long time, Toby put him into the trunk and drove all night, he stopped at a lake. He made sure that no one was near. So he did what he had to do, uttering no words at all. The next morning, Toby made hotcakes, after all, it was a sunny and beautiful Sunday. He had wanted to sleep like a log last night, but he couldn’t. So he

decided to turn over a new leaf and he promised himself to forget it. Suddenly, he noticed a putrid smell coming from the room. It was something truly disgusting. There were bloodstains in his room, and mud marks on the floor. The room was so cold and frightening. Everything went dark when Toby started to yell when he saw the slim and horrifying figure come out of his closet. He closed his eyes as if that made the ghost disappear. “You will never get rid of me”- the ghost whispered into Toby’s ear. Immediately all was cleared up. Toby grasped that what the old man had said was true. He would always feel his diabolic presence. Think that he could forget everything had been foolishness. His life would be a torment from that day. He was weak. He knew that the only solution would be: Kill himself. It was the only solution to be free.

“Himura Kenshin” The reverse-blade sword By Enoc

During the 11th year of the Meji period in Japan (1878), there was a time when warriors held lands that they occupied; a ronin "vagrant" or "wandering man" was a warrior (samurai) who had lost his master. During this time, as small scale wars were occurring throughout Japan. The daimyous (feudal lords) needed to increase their armies, so ronins were hired and had the chance to redeem themselves with new masters. Among this ronins there’s one that outstands more than any other one, a former assassin from the Bakumatsu (final years of the Edo period), known as Hitokiri Battosai. After his work against the bakufu (“The shogun”, was the military dictator of Japan). The days of the samurai ended and the Shogun’s government faded. It was the end of the Boshin war (1868), Hitokiri Battosai was disturbed looking around and asking himself a lot of question: was it all worth it? Why the innocent had pay this price? As he was looking across the battlefield, he could hear the voices of hundreds of wounded warriors asking for help, and see so many other dead. The smell of blood was not only coming from his sword, but actually, from the streams of blood running through his feet, as he felt his sword on his hand, he felt guilty of such slaughter. Therefore, he felt on his knees he made a promise to himself to never kill another person. Hunted by his sins, and tormented by the dreams of the battleground, he took the resolution to become a Buddhist monk. Consequently, he went to Kiyomizu-dera a Buddhist temple on Mount Ottawa. His voyage to the temple was breathtaking. First, a forest of bamboo, big tall monuments, you could hear the whistle of the wind pass through this forest, almost like calling your name. At the end of this forest. You could see the entrance of the

temple, as he got closer; he noticed a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to sacred. As he stepped in through this door, he observed a stairway to the temple, and realized that his journey was just about to start. While he started to climb the stairs, he had time to think about his sins and all the people that was killed by his sword; from villains, tyrants as well as innocent people. Once on the top of Mount Ottawa, right in front of his eyes, there was a magnificent temple; in front of the temple a big potter full of embers were visitor would come and would burn incense. Then, there was a hallway with huge pillars of especial woods from all over Japan, and at the end of this hallway a colossal gate at the entrance of this temple. As he entered the temple, he noticed only one monk doing his morning prayer, so he started approaching towards the monk and patiently waited until the monk finish his prayer. The monk rose up and asked these simple questions: “Is your heart at peace?” “Do you have a purpose in this life?” “Do you know who am I?” Asked Battosai. “No, but I can see what is tormenting your soul just looking at your eyes.” Said the monk. “How can I find peace with myself when I have killed thousands?” Said Battosai. “Should I become a monk myself?” “Are you willing to leave all anger, sadness and regret that’s drowning you soul? On Buddha’s teachings, he teaches us: Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment. We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. Those who are free of resentful thoughts surely find peace. Good, protects the innocent and the weak, then doing this you will purify your mind and joy will follow. Until you find the peace that you’re looking for, and only then, if you decide to come back and become a monk, you’ll be welcome.” Replied the monk. After these reflection Hirokiri Battosai decided to go unknown changing his name to become Himura Kenshin, a wandering swordsman who now protects the people of Japan with a vow to never kill ever again.

After wandering throughout Japan, he decides to go back to Tokyo, and while he was crossing a bridge, he met a young woman named Kamiya Kaoru, who was in the middle of a fight with a murderer —who claimed to be the Hitokiri Battōsai tarnishing the name of the swordsmanship school that she taught. Kenshin decided to help her and defeated the fake Battōsai. Once discovering that Kenshin was the real infamous assassin, Kaoru offered him a place to stay at her dojo noting that he was peace loving and not cold-hearted, as his reputation implied. Kenshin accepted. After been rescued from death, dishonor and loneliness by the mysterious rurouni, Kaoru greatly values Kenshin's company after he appeared in her life and was rather insistent that he stayed. The two grew steadily closer as time went on. Eventually, they got married and later on, they had a son together, Kenji. They lived happily ever after.

My trip to Monterrey By Jose Luis Ubiarco

I will always remember when I traveled to Monterrey with some of my elementary school classmates. I was twelve years old and the school year was about to end. So, a teacher decided to make a trip to Monterrey for sixth-grade students. We left on Friday at 7:00 a.m. to arrive at 11:00 a.m. The First I could notice is that Monterrey is surrounded by big mountains; also, it has really complicated roads and luxurious houses. The first place we visited was Plaza Sesamo Park, it had many mechanical games, an aquatic park, and a gift shop but we just stayed in the aquatic park. In there, there were a lot of water slides and pools for each age. We spent all afternoon in the aquatic park. Unfortunately, nowadays Plaza Sesamo Park is neglected; the bathrooms are so dirty, some mechanical games do not work, is too expensive, the food is terrible, etc. Then we returned by bus to go to the “Best Western” hotel, it was a good hotel, it has many bedrooms and a comfortable reception. In the morning, we could choose what we want to eat it was like a buffet. Immediately, we finished our breakfast, we got back to the bus to go to “Bioparque Estrella”. This park is divided into two parts; Safari and Aquatic Park. The safari was a extensive terrain where there are animals: lions, elephants, etc. In addition, we were going in a truck. During the safari, we were able to feed animals although animals have a strange smell. Besides, the elephants make a particular sound with its trunk. When the safari ended, we might take photos with baby lions or large snakes.

Later, we went to the aquatic part but it was not only that, it also had a robotic dinosaur museum, a mini-cinema and a lake with Chinese fishes. To be honest this was my favorite part of the trip and the last one. Finally, on that same night, we get back home.
