PAYMENT GATEWAY FOR HIGH RISK BUSINESS Initially, let’s understand what high risk business is. A company is considered as high risk business in two situations:  Firstly, when it operates into high risk industry  And secondly, failure of financial transaction occurs. Let’s clear it through an example: When a customer does not get his service from a merchant. In that case he demands for his money which is known as chargeback. This is also considered as high risk for business.

THERE ARE VARIOUS FACTORS WHO MIGHT PUT A BUSINESS INTO A HIGH RISK CATEGORY:  A company has high chargeback ratios.  A company do support multi-currency.  A company has a bad credit history.  A company started a new business but a little credit card processing history. For businesses those are into high risk industry, a high risk payment gateway is required. It allows merchants to accept secure and reasonable credit card payments.

HOW HIGH RISK PAYMENT GATEWAY WORKS? Step 1: When a customer places an order though website. He/ She enters his/her card information and submit the order by pressing the “Submit” button. Step 2: Then a customer’s web browser encrypts the sensitive information that is to be sent to the merchant’s web server using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. Step 3: Then merchant’s web server passes this transaction information to payment gateway. This is another SSL encrypted connection.

Step 4: A payment gateway passes this transaction information to the payment processor used by the merchant’s acquiring bank. Step 5: A payment processor passes this transaction information to a credit card’s association (Visa, American Express) who contains card information. Step 6: Then credit card’s association will match this credit card information with its own record. If it is matched then this transaction will be approved otherwise it is declined. This feedback is sent back to the payment processor. Step 7: Then this feedback is given back to the payment gateway by payment processor where it is forwarded to website where it will be decrypted. This entire process takes 2-3 seconds later on this payment will be in merchant’s account at last.
