Our Vision Morningstar UMC seeks to share the light and love of Jesus Christ to all we encounter. Morningstar will be a community where each person is offered opportunities and challenged to grow in his/her relationship with God throughout his/her life. As we grow in our love of God, we will increase our growth of healthy relationships by encouraging people of all ages through accountability, study, prayer, fellowship, and service. The more our congregation grows in these primary relationships (with God and our neighbors), we will see ourselves reaching out into the local community, region and world through acts of service – sharing the light of Jesus Christ in hands-on, meaningful ways, and inviting others to experience God’s love for themselves.

Our Values

    

Casual for Christ - Feel free to come as you are! Connect for Real - Make authentic relationships with those around you. Contribute Ourselves - God has given us gifts to use to for His Kingdom. Care for All - All are welcome to join us in worship and the journey of faith Christ Centered - Jesus is the light of the world, the center of all that we do!

Women of Morningstar Ministry Update

The Women of Morningstar praise God for helping us to step out in faith! Shortly after making some firm commitments to spend money raised through craft sales, God blessed us greatly with sales of over $1,300 from our two craft shows in November! We give Him the glory as we strive to humbly follow His plan for our Women’s ministry. Our recent efforts have included sending a monetary Christmas gift to both our Compassion International child and her family in addition to our normal monthly support. On a couple of Fridays in November, we packed 14 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes with many items donated by women of the church. Together, we prayed for the 14 children who will receive those shoeboxes, and we look forward to discovering to which country the shoeboxes were delivered. We are excited to gather together in fellowship and grow in Spirit at the Immanuel Bible Foundation Women’s Christmas Breakfast on December 7th at the Marriott in Uptown Normal. We may still have a couple of tickets left, so please contact the church office if you’d like to purchase a ticket and join us! 2

From the Pastor’s Desk

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…” The song echoes through the malls; it even echoed through the halls at the Baby Fold’s Festival of Trees. We love the smells, bells, and whistles of the season, don’t we? Carols and concerts, feasts and festivals, parties and presents, cookies and candy help us “be of good cheer.” The list of things to accomplish is endless. Did we get enough food? Have we baked all of the cookies? Did we make it to all of the stores to buy the gifts? Can we squeeze in the kids’ school concerts with the office holiday party and lunch with the Smiths and dinner with the Does?

The hustle and bustle comes from the world, not the church. The church speaks a different reality. In fact, as Alyssa and I were talking over the December calendar, it looks pretty empty. We gather for worship and study, for fellowship and mission; however, in all of those gatherings, we usher in a message that is different from the world. Gifts and cookies are not what we wait for; we are waiting for the Messiah, Emmanuel, Godwith-us! Expect that church will not mirror the culture during this season. We’re in Advent, in a time of waiting, until Christmas Eve. We wait and we watch for the Christ child together. We sing songs of hope, peace, love, and joy, knowing that we are waiting for the greatest gift of all – the Savior of the world. Come, wait and watch with us this Advent season – and we will celebrate with exceeding joy and gladness when Christ is born!

I will see you in worship! Grace and peace,

Pastor Jay

...to give! Plan to make a pledge toward the capital campaign. If you have not already received information, you will be receiving it soon.

Bring in new and gently used hats and mittens to decorate the tree in the entryway of the church

Prayerfully consider these offerings during the coming weeks and examine where God is calling you to give back to Him what He has first given us.

The Youth Spaghetti Supper will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014. Look for more details soon!
