The Growth of the Spirit Among Us

ust as among human beings, after they are born they naturally grow, so also among the spirits in us, after they are born, they grow. This is part of the process of our spiritual development. When different organisms begin to grow they look alike but as they continue to grow they gradually show themselves to be like their parent or their species. When the seeds of different kinds of grain begin to germinate they look similar to one another, blades of grass. But as they continue to grow they become distinguishable from one another. One grows to be wheat, another grows to be rice, another grows to be barley, etc. In a similar way the zygotes or fertilized eggs of mammals appear to be the same among different mammals. But as they grow into fetuses they soon become distinguishable. One is the fetus of a cow, another of a dog, another of a human being. So also when spirits are born, the persons in whom the spirit is born still looks like other human beings, those in whom the spirit has not yet been born. Physically, they look like the same: Both have two hands, 2 feet, 2 ears, etc. But in reality they are completely different from each other, they are worlds apart. One has only a material, physical life. The other has spiritual life in addition to having a material, physical life. One is merely a human being, even a very good, talented human being. The other is a growing divine being. One is an earthly creature, the other is a heavenly being, being born from the Spirit above. One belongs to the human race; the other belongs also to the divine race. As the spirit in us grows he/ she becomes more and more and manifests himself/herself more and more like his/her parent, the Spirit God. As human beings we inherited the characteristics of the first

human parent, Adam. The seed of Adam has been passed from generation to generation producing human beings like Adam, the first human being. As we grow as human beings, these characteristics become more and more visible. As spirit or divine beings we inherit the characteristics of our divine

parent, God himself. The seed of God which is His Word is passed on to us from generation to generation also producing divine beings like Jesus, the new human being, the human being with a divine nature. As we grow in the divine life, these characteristics become more and more visible. There is a dynamism in the spirit to grow by himself/herself. You do not tell him/her to grow. He/she grows naturally. But like other living organisms, he/she needs the proper nutrients. The first is good food. The food of the spirit is the Word of God.

The Word of God as food can be classified into four kinds: starting food or milk, growing food or solid food, strengthening food or very nutritious food, and reinvigorating food or dainty food. The milk or starting food in the Word of God consists of the many stories we find in the Bible. These are

example of this is the Letter of Paul to the Romans. It is filled with heavy teaching. The dainty or delicious food consists of the mystical and apocalyptic literature in the Bible. The curious people are very much interested in this. A very good example of this is the last book of the Bible, Revelation. The spirit takes his/her pick, what is most suitable to him/her. Of course, it would be of very much help if there is somebody who can guide the spirit as to what food to eat in the various stages of his/her growth. Not only does the spirit need food, he/she also needs to move around his/her house. This he/she does by doing the things his/her family of spirits does in the Church, like cleaning the place of worship, inviting people to listen to the preaching and teaching of God's Word, learning Christian songs, etc. Thirdly, the spirit also needs rest. He/she needs periods of doing nothing but just resting and being alone. Then he/she also needs to be disciplined by his/her Father Spirit God. This means that he/she avoids what can harm himself/herself, such as going with people who have no concern for spiritual matters. And he/she needs to relate harmoniously with his/her spirit brothers and sisters and his/her parent God the Spirit. He/she has fellowship with simple stories which children naturally his/her spirit brothers and sisters. And like to listen. The Bible is filled with he/she devotes more and more time to these stories, from creation to the end conversing with his/her parent God. of the world. This is prayer. The solid or growing food in the Word of God consists of the exhortations we read, like what we find in In this way the spirit grows among us. the text on the Ten Commandments and the various injunctions in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Proverbs also has many of this solid or growing food. My Journey as SFC

M

A Glimpse at the Beginning

November 27, 2011 TRIBUTE TO THE ELDERS (First presented during the SFC Cabuyao Christmas party in 2008) By Bro. August Alcasabas (SFC Cabuyao 1st Unit Head)

off. Tito Mighty and Tita Tess Mateo came. Our world for a moment was shaken totally. Their vibrancy, enthusiasm, and pro-activeness in the service were truly overwhelming. Truly as written in Matthew 7:7 - "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.”

At  least  don  wala  na  kami  hawak  (referring  to  SFC)!”  These statements caused so much pain in me to hear considering that members have not decided yet where to go. True enough many souls where lost along the way looking for refuge, and I can’t blame my siblings to rest where their parents were.

“His plans didn’t remain plans, He made sure to make them into reality.”

“Tito, mag‐goglobal ako!”

“We settled on mountains but waves still reached us.”

And like what God did, His plans didn’t remain plans, “Tito Benjie Ramirez(of CFC Cabuyao He made sure to make them into realChapter 4), me favor po ako!” The next ity. thing I recalled was the tears started to flow uncontrollably from my eyes. I felt like a kid longing for my parents. When I saw Tito Benjie I can’t help but cry seeing a foster father who I knew was capable of extending comfort to my weary soul. Then I got to encounter Tito Boyet Zotomayor who promised to assist in looking for couple coordinators for us. The waiting period was long and exhausting, but it paid

my battle few weeks after. Tin-tin for quite a time was my partner in the GK service. I have no idea if I influenced her with her decision. What I’m fully aware was the fact that Tin-tin went through with somehow the same battle, fighting for the service over her family’s concerns against it. Tin-tin was indeed a refuge, a haven where I find my weary soul’s rest. Seven, coming from a long rest in the service, volunteered to be part of us. Doubting his motive at first, I came to realize his purpose to play. I would say, his come back was just right and perfectly on time, when we need another soul to comfort and affirm us.

“From 1 to 2, to 3, to 4, to 5, to 6… +6, +2, +7, to INFINITY. We are proud to claim…We belong to SFC Cabuyao… We belong to CFC-SFC Family… “

Even with four great heads (actually 5 including Kiko) the battle wasn’t smooth-sailing. We settled on mountains but waves still reached us. Approaching Rudolf was initially thought to be futile. From a long rest in service, not much idea or better yet concern on what’s going on with the Community, Tin-tin and I realized we’re absolutely wrong! Rudolf was already on his steps back to service, waiting for someone to fetch him up and we’re lucky to have him joined us in a joy trip, just right in time! Indeed, Rudolf with his guitar, serves as an “epoxy” or a “mighty bond” that brought the five of us together…never as bonded as we’re right now.
