And We have already sent messengers (prophets) before you (O Muhammad ); Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. {Surah 40, Ayah 78}

Note: When Allah

says “We” in the Qur’an, it means Himself and all the greatness around Him.

‫أَﻧ ِﺒ َﻴﺂء‬

Allah sent many prophets in the past to help guide people to live a good life while on earth. Their main message was to tell people the truth about Allah , Our Creator. He is the One who created the universe and everything in between them. The prophets reminded people to worship Allah alone and to follow His way which is the way of the believers who will enter Jannah.

‫ﻳَﻌ ُﺒﺪوا‬

Who was the first Prophet? ___________________________ Who was the last Prophet? ____________________________ No one knows exactly how many prophets were sent down, but there is a hadith that says there were around 124,000 prophets in total. All we know is that Allah mentions 25 prophets by name in the Qur’an and out of whom, there were 5 prophets who were the most special.

The Story of Prophet Nuh  A great superhero is someone who saves the world from danger. In Islam, we don’t think of the prophets as superheroes because they were all humans and had no real special powers. However, when it comes to Prophet Nuh , he built an ark under the supervision of Allah  with his own hands to save humanity.

‫ﻧُﻮح‬

Calling People to the Way of Allah  Prophet Nuh  lived many years ago. He was one of the first prophets to walk on Earth, and was given the mission to save the world. His story can be found in other religious books as well using his English name, Noah. Allah  blessed Prophet Nuh  with a long life. He lived during a time when most people had forgotten about Allah . Nuh  lived up to 950 years old and he spent most of his life doing da’wah to his people.

‫َد ْﻋ َﻮة‬

Da’wah is an Arabic word that has a complex translation. Islamically, it means to invite people to Islam by conveying the correct message of Islam to non-Muslims. One can also do da’wah to Muslims by reminding them about Allah  and how He deserves to be worshipped everyday, through prayers and other good actions.

Allah  speaks of Nuh’s da’wah in the Qur’an when He says: Indeed, We sent Noah to his people. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah, you have no other God except Him.” {Surah 7, Ayah 59} Prophet Nuh  lived during a time when people worshipped idols and false gods. He spent most of his life doing da’wah to his people but only a few believed him. In fact, most of the people laughed and made fun of him, and eventually Allah  decided to punish all those who did not believe in His message. myDeen.club

Allah’s  Punishment to Nuh’s People During the time of the prophets, Allah  would sometimes send a specific punishment to those people who did not believe in Allah’s message. However, during the time of Prophet Nuh , Allah  sent a severe punishment for the whole of humanity, except for very few people who were saved. Allah  told Nuh that He would send a massive flood that will cover the whole Earth. Build the Ark under Our ˹watchful˺ Eyes and directions, and do not ˹plead˺ with Me for those who have done wrong, for they will surely be drowned. {Surah 11, Ayah 37} Allah  told Nuh  to build an Ark as He supervised to survive the flood. ¢ Allah  also told Nuh  not to “plead” for the people who refused to believe in Him when the flood would come, meaning he should not ask Allah  to forgive them. ¢

Building the Ark

‫َﺳ ِﻔﻴ َﻨﺔ‬

An Ark is a massive ship with a covering that can carry a lot of people, animals & goods at the same time. Prophet Nuh  spent many years building the Ark. He would spend his days collecting wooden planks and tying them up together to create this massive boat. It was the size of many football fields put together. At that time, Prophet Nuh  was building the Ark on a dry, open field with no water nearby which puzzled the people around him. “What a silly person!” they thought. “He is building a boat in a dry field. Where will the water come from?” The people continued to ridicule Nuh  but this did not stop him. Although Nuh was very old, he kept on building the ark plank by plank, and rope by rope until it was completed.

Saving Humanity Once the Ark was completed, Allah  told Prophet Nuh  to gather all the people who believed in his message in addition to a pair of each of animal species to go with him on the boat. According to books of hadith, it is reported that there were only a few people who gathered into the boat. The rest of the boat was filled with a pair of chickens, lambs, cows, elephants, giraffes, zebras foxes, lions, and so on. One day, all of a sudden it started to rain. Then it became even harder and it kept raining for days. The ponds, lakes and rivers started to fill up and overflow. The water kept rising and rising, and slowly but surely, as Allah  had promised, the flood was upon everyone. Prophet Nuh’s Ark started to float and those who did not believe in his message started asking Nuh  to save them, but Allah  had told him not to plead for the people when the flood comes. Prophet Nuh  could not even save one of his sons because he did not believe in his message. All the people who did not believe in Allah  were eventually drowned and only the believers were saved.

‫اﳌ ُ ْﺆ ِﻣ ُﻨﻮن‬

After the flood had wiped out all of humanity, Allah  ordered the skies to stop the rain and the earth to swallow the flood water. After a few days, Nuh’s Ark eventually landed on a dry place. The animals were released, and the rest of the “good” people started a new village. At that time, they were the only people alive around the world. Even though they were only a few, they all believed in Allah . They set up a new village and restarted Humanity.

Nuh’s Plank Puzzle

Challenge

It took Prophet Nuh  many years to build the Ark which eventually saved all the people who believed in Allah . Let’s see how long it will take you to build a replica of his Ark using scissors, glue and some puzzle skills. 1) On page 9, cut out the wooden planks carefully using scissors. 2) Once you are done, re-arrange the planks so that they fit on Nuh’s Ark. 3) Then glue or tape the wooden planks and submit a picture for a chance to win!

ia h p o S d n a l a il B f o s e r u t The Adven Every month, Bilal and Sophia share new stories and experiences that are happening in their lives. See what they are up to this month. Sophia woke up with a dry throat. She felt extremely thirsty. She took her empty water bottle and headed downstairs. She went to the kitchen and filled it up then sat down to take a drink. Alhamdulillah for the blessing of water. She refilled her bottle and headed towards the stairs. It was then that she heard the muffled noise coming from the family room. As she walked towards the family room, she saw light coming from the lamp. She saw the dark shadow splayed across the wall. The shadow . She realized it was Baba. looked to be making dua’a

‫ُد َﻋﺎء‬

She wasn’t surprised to see Baba engaged in prayer at this time. Mama and Baba often prayed the late-night prayers, tahajjud . She was surprised to see tears coming down his cheeks. She hoped everything was okay.

َ‫ﺗَ َﻬ ﱡﺠﺪ‬

She sat down beside Baba and leaned her head on his shoulder. She waited for him to finish making dua’a. After finishing his dua’a, Baba turned and kissed Sophia’s forehead. “Asalaamu Alaikum Baba. Is everything all right?” Sophia asked. “Wa’Alaikum Asalaam Sophia. Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, thumma Alhamdulillah!” Sophia looked up to see Baba wipe away his tears. “I was thirsty. I came down for a drink and heard you…” Sophia looked worriedly at Baba. “Sophia, do you remember my cousin Adel? We met him at the family reunion last year? Well, I received a call from him about an hour ago, that’s what woke me up,” explained Baba. myDeen.club

14

“Oh. Is he ok? Is everything alright?” asked Sophia. “Yes and no. He told me some news, it’s sad but it’s giving me some joy as well.” Sophia was confused. “What do you mean Baba?” “Sophia, Adel is my Great Aunt Habiba’s grandson. Growing up, whenever we would visit Aunt Habiba, we would ask her to tell us stories. She loved to tell us stories of the prophets. But whenever she would tell us the story of Prophet Nuh  and she reached the part about Prophet Nuh’s son drowning, she would cry. We always wondered why, but as kids we didn’t really understand.” Sophia remembered that part very well. After preaching to his people for over 900 years, Prophet Nuh  built an ark to save himself and his followers from the great flood. As the rain fell and the water rose, the non-believers climbed high mountains thinking they could be safe, amongst them was Prophet Nuh’s son. Prophet Nuh  called out to his son one last time; calling him to believe in Allah and be safe. His son did not heed his warning, he insisted that he would be safe on top of the mountain. But Prophet Nuh  knew that there would be none who would be saved that day other than those who believed in Allah. His son, like the other non-believers, drowned in the flood. “It wasn’t until I got older that I understood why that particular part in the story made her cry so much,” continued Baba. “She had a son named Ahmed, who had gone to Holland to study, and somehow lost himself and his beliefs. He didn’t stay in touch and Aunt Habiba always worried about him, especially his deen . She thought of him as she relayed the story of Prophet Nuh, worrying about what would happen to him. She would always make dua’a for his guidance and for Allah  to have mercy on him.”

‫ِدﻳﻦ‬

HOLLAND

“That’s so sad,” Sophia said softly. “Today, Adel called with some sad news, Aunt Habiba has passed away,” said Baba.

15

myDeen.club

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raajioun.” said Sophia. (this is what you recite when you hear someone has passed away which means “Surely, to Allah  we belong and to Him we shall return”)

“It is a big loss for me, she was my mother’s only sister. However, Adel did have some news that made me happy as well. Over the last few months, after hearing of Aunt Habiba’s sickness, Uncle Ahmed (from Holland) and his kids have been back home. Although he’d lo st his way for a while, Allah  has guided Uncle Ahmed back to the dua’a. Adel tells me Uncle Ahmed served and cared for his sick mother tirelessly over the last few months. Alhamdulillah!” “Subhan’Allah!” exclaimed Sophia, getting tears in her eyes. “Indeed, Allah  guides whom He wills. You should never give up hope , in the very least, keep making dua’a for for a person’s imaan them,” said Baba. “My tears are more out of gratitude than sadness. Even though he’d distanced himself for a long time, I am happy that Uncle Ahmed was with Great Aunt Habiba in her last moments. Please remember to make dua’a for her, in sha’Allah.”

‫ﻳـامن‬ َ ِ‫إ‬

“I will Baba, in sha’Allah.” Sophia kissed Baba and headed back to bed. As she drifted off to sleep again, her father’s words played through her head. “Never give up hope on a person’s imaan (belief in Allah ).”

Sophia was able to learn a valuable lesson from her Baba and the story of Prophet Nuh . It’s important to never give up on people and to stay consistent when giving da’wah. Find out next month what other lessons and adventures await Bilal and Sophia.

DA’WAH

Inviting People to Islam

‫َد ْﻋ َﻮ َة‬

Da’wah is an Arabic word that has a complex translation. Islamically, it means to invite people to Islam by conveying the correct message of Islam to non-Muslims. One can also do da’wah to Muslims by reminding them that Allah  is our creator and how He deserves to be worshipped everyday, through prayers and other good deeds. All the prophets in the past did Da’wah to their people and some were more successful than others. Prophet Nuh  was only able to save a few people while Prophet Muhammad  has almost 2 billion followers as of today. As Muslims, Allah  has placed a responsibility upon us to invite or call people to Islam. We have to do it just like the prophets did, through good words and even better actions. Allah  says in the Qur’an: And whose words are better than someone who calls ˹others˺ to Allah, does good, and says, “I am truly one of those who submit (Muslim).” {Surah 41, Ayah 33}
