The Words of Allah 

Letter to the Parents:

Contains Qur’anic Content,

Please Dispose of it Properly.

Key Points for Parents:

Here are some pointers on how to properly engage with your child throughout this edition. General: To help your child better understand Surah Al-Fatihah, we thought the best approach was to place the ayahs together on three pages and include a cryptogram activity to help them focus on the meaning of each ayah. For this age group, most of the kids will know the surah, however we are encouraging them to learn the meaning of it so that they know what they are reciting during their daily prayers. Asalaamu Alaikum Dear Parents, Welcome to another edition of myDeen Magazine. This month’s theme is about:

The Words of Allah  The Qur’an is not like any other book and every part of it is important for us to read, understand, and act on. It contains the literal words of Allah that were revealed through our beloved Prophet over 1400 years ago. The Qur’an is to be used as a manual for life and as a source of guidance so that we can earn the pleasures of Jannah. For this month’s edition, we will focus our efforts on learning two important parts of the Qur’an referred to as The Mother of the Book and The Verse of the Throne. “We have certainly granted you the seven often-repeated verses & the great Qur’an.” {Surah 15, Ayah 87} "Whoever recites Ayatul Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing will prevent ˹them˺ from entering Paradise except death. {Sunan an-Nisa’i} There is a total of 3 submission activities throughout this edition where your child has a chance to win one of the monthly prizes! Once your child completes each activity, send a picture to: submit@mydeen.club.

As for Ayatul Kursi, if your child does not know the ayah, then please make sure they learn it by the end of the month. Ayatul Kursi is the greatest verse in the Qur’an and it has many benefits, thus we should make it a priority to learn both the Arabic and English meaning of the ayah. We hope that at the end of this edition, you and your child will know the meaning of Al-Fatihah and Ayatul Kursi. This will benefit them for the rest of their lives, in sha’Allah. Page 12/13: This is our monthly Salaah Journal. We kindly ask you to make sure that your child fills this out every month so that they can track their prayers. Offer incentives and reward them if needed as a source of encouragement. Page 22: Your child might need help putting the Ayatul Kursi puzzle pieces together. Ask them to use the Qur’an as their reference first even if they do not know Arabic. This will help them be more comfortable with opening and reading Qur’an. Note: If you feel that your child is too young for this edition, please let us know. We can start mailing them ages 6-8 edition of our magazines. For further inquiries, email the customer support team at: Info@myDeen.club. Sanaa Izreig Editor-In-Chief myDeen Education Ltd.

We all know that the words in the Qur’an are the exact words of Allah  that were revealed to our prophet Muhammad . The Qur’an is not like any other book and every part of it is important for us to read, understand and act on. This month, we will focus our attention on two very important parts of the Qur’an: The Mother of the Book and The Verse of the Throne.

1) The Greatest Surah: Al-Fatihah ‫اَﻟْﻔَﺎﺗِ َﺤﺔ‬

The first half of the magazine will talk about Surah Al-Fatihah, also known as the Mother of the Book (Qur’an). Al-Fatihah means ‘the Opening’ and that is why it is the first chapter in the Qur’an. This surah has seven verses in total.

THE

OPENING

Surah Al-Fatihah is so important that no prayer is ever complete without reciting it. Allah  has asked us to read it in every rakaat in our daily prayers. Aisha  the wife of prophet Muhammad said:

‫َرﻛْ َﻌﺔ‬

I heard the Messenger of Allah  say: ‘Any prayer in which the Ummul-Kitab (the Mother of the Book) is not recited is incomplete. {Sunan Ibn-Majah}

2) The Greatest Ayah: Ayatul Kursi ‫آ َﻳ ُﺔ اَﻟْﻜُ ْﺮ ِﳼ‬ The second half of the magazine will speak about Ayatul Kursi, also known as the Throne Verse. Ayatul Kursi is the 255th ayah of the second chapter of the Qur’an.

Just like Surah Al-Fatihah, prophet Muhammad  told us it is good to recite Ayatul Kursi after every prayer. It is an amazing verse that talks about Allah’s Greatness and How Powerful He truly is. Prophet Muhammad  said: Whoever recites Ayatul Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing will prevent ˹them˺ from entering Paradise. {Sunan an-Nisa’i} {This hadith has been slightly shortened for better understanding}

Most, if not all of you should know Surah Al-Fatihah as well as Ayatul Kursi. This magazine will help you learn the English translation as well as the meaning behind each of these great verses of the sacred Qur’an

As-sab'a Al-Mathani ‫سبْ ُع َا ْل َم َثانِ ي‬ َ ‫َا ْل‬ We have certainly granted you the 7 often-repeated verses & the great Qur’an. {Surah 15, Verse 87} The Qur’an is the fourth and final book revealed from Allah  to Prophet Muhammad . It consists of 114 chapters and over 6,000+ verses (ayahs). Out of all the chapters, the first chapter of the Qur’an stands out and Allah  refers to that chapter as the ‘7 often-repeated verses’. Prophet Muhammad nicknamed the surah as the ‘Mother of the Book’. In another hadith, he said that the greatest Surah of the Qur’an is Surah Al-Fatihah. {Sahih Bukhari} Although surah Al-Fatihah is the first chapter in the Qur’an, its verses were not the first that were revealed. However, it was the first complete surah that was revealed, which makes it unique. Al-Fatihah is the first surah recited in every rakah and it serves as an opening for many things, thus it makes sense to have it as the first chapter in the Qur’an. Surah Al-Fatihah has a total of twenty-five important words that have been put together in seven ‘often-repeated’ sentences. Over the next four pages, you will get a chance to trace the Arabic component of each verse, solve the English translation for each ayah as well as learn their meaning along the way.

Solve the following math equations correctly. Use a calculator or ask your parent to verify your answers after. Then on the next four pages, write the correct letters that match each number to reveal the English translation of Al-Fatihah.

Many of us don’t know this, but the ďŹ rst ayah of surah Al-Fatihah is actually Bismillah which translates to ‘In the Name of Allah’. It means that we begin every action in the Name of Allahso that it pleases Him, and He rewards us for it.

Meaning

After the Bismillah part, we say two speciďŹ c names of Allah žAr-Rahman means the Most Gracious žAr-Raheem means the Most Merciful

Surah Al-Fatiha is the greatest surah in the Qur’an. It is a powerful prayer between us and Allah , where we praise Him and then we ask Him for help and guidance. Each verse of the surah has a deep meaning and prophet Muhammad has told us how Allah  responds after each verse. In Sahih Muslim, Abu Huraira reported that Prophet Muhammad said: “Allah Almighty said: I have divided ˹surah Al-Fatihah˺ between myself and my servants into two halves, and my servant will have what they have asked for. Part One: A) When the worshipper says, “All praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds,” Allah  says: My servant has praised me. B) When the worshipper says, “the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,” Allah  says: My servant has exalted (elevated) me. C) When the worshipper says, “Master of the Day of Judgement,” Allah  says: My servant has glorified me and has submitted to me. Part Two: A) When the worshipper says, “It is You ˹alone˺ we worship & You ˹alone˺ we ask for help,” Allah  says: This is between me and my servants, and they will have what they ask have asked for. B) When the worshipper says, “Guide us to the Straight Path, the Path of those whom You have blessed, not those whom You are angry with, nor of those who have gone astray.” Allah  says: This is for My servants, and they will have. what they asked for. (We have asked for the correct path, and Allah will grant us that insha’Allah.) As you can see, Allah  divided Surah Al-Fatihah into two parts. The first part is for worshippers to praise His Absolute Attributes and the second part is to ask Allah  to guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom He has blessed. If you maintain your five daily prayers, reciting surah Al-Fatihah in each rakaat, then you should know that you are continuously making dua’a. Allah  will respond to those who are sincere in their dua’as. How amazing is that, subhan’Allah!

Writing and reading in Arabic can be difficult for some, especially if it is not your first language. However, Arabic is the language of the Qur’an and we should all do our best to learn how to read and write Arabic. On the last few pages, we asked you to trace ayahs from Al-Fatihah separately, and now it’s time to put it all together. Using a Qur’an as your reference, write surah Al-Fatihah in Arabic fully. Make sure to use a pencil in case you run into any mistakes.

Once you finish, take a picture and send it to: submit@myDeen.club. One winner will be chosen at the end of the month to win $50!

ia h p o S d n a l a il B f o s e r u The Advent Every month, Bilal and Sophia share new stories and experiences that are happening in their lives. See what they are up to this month.

“Asalaamu Alaikum WaRahmatuAllah. Asalaamu Alaikum WaRahmatuAllah.” Baba completed the fajr salaah and turned around to face Mama and Sophia, Bilal sat beside him doing his athkaar. “Don’t forget to recite Ayatul Kursi Sophia,” Bilal reminded. Baba smiled, happy that Bilal remembered the importance of Ayatul Kursi from yesterday’s halaqah. After they had finished their athkaar and made dua’a, Baba addressed Sophia. “Sophia, do you know what the greatest surah in the Qur’an is?” Bilal bounced up and down excitedly, keen to answer. “Relax Bilal, I know you know the answer, but I want to see if Sophia knows,” said Baba. “Hmm, the greatest surah in the Qur’an would be the surah that must be recited in each rakaat or else the salaah is incomplete, surah Al-Fatihah,” said Sophia. “Yes, Masha’Allah Tabarak’Allah, surah Al-Fatihah is the greatest chapter and an essential part to completing the salaah. Now I have a trick question for you Sophia. Which is the greatest ayah in the Qur’an?” asked Baba. Sophia pondered upon this for a while. “Umm, it would only make sense that the greatest ayah is in the greatest surah, Correct?” asked Sophia. “Hmm, not quite. What about you Bilal? Do you remember what we learned yesterday?” Baba asked, turning to Bilal. “The greatest ayah is Ayatul Kursi, the Verse of the Throne,” answered Bilal. “Yes, that’s right. The greatest ayah, Ayatul Kursi is found in Surah Al-Baqarah. This ayah glorifies Allah  with the most beautiful of His names and attributes, like Al-Hayy and Al-Qayyum,” explained Baba.

“The Prophet Muhammad  said that whoever recites Ayatul Kursi after the five daily prayers, there will be nothing standing between them and entering Paradise if they were to pass away,” said Mama. “That’s why we encourage you to recite it after every salaah. It is basically a ticket to Jannah after every prayer” T ICK E T “It’s also part of the dua’as and ayaat we’re supposed to recite before bedtime, too, right?” asked Sophia.

, if you recite Ayatul Kursi before going to bed, “Yes, along with making wudhu Allah  would appoint a guardian (an angel) to protect you all night,” said Mama. “It’s amazing how there are so many little things we can learn in Islam that will help us in this world and the next. Honestly, every time I hear something new or read something new about a concept in Islam, it amazes me as to how much more we don’t know. There is always something new to learn! The religion of Allah  is so vast!” Sophia was thinking out loud and the rest of the family was contemplating on her thoughts. “You are absolutely right Sophia. I’ve been reading the Qur’an almost daily for the past few years and almost every week, I learn about something new. Even at this age,” Mama shared her experience about her daily Qur’an recitation. Even though she is 35 years old, she is still learning new things in Islam. Subhan’Allah! “I know, right? I love how we learn so many little things in Islam that can help us in many ways to be successful in this life. I am going to remember to recite Ayatul Kursi before bedtime and after fardh salaah. I want to be protected by the Angels and go . First, I will make sure to memorize it perfectly in Arabic and learn its to Jannah meaning so when I will read it, I will understand what I will be saying,” said Bilal.

“Don’t forget to say ‘insha’Allah’. Remember, we are always in need of Allah’s help to complete our tasks. That’s why we say: ‘Iyyaaka na’budu, wa iyyaaka nasta-’een’ at least 17 times during our daily prayers,” said Mama.

{Surah 17, Ayah 88}

"If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur'an,they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to assist each other.

The Throne Verse ‫آ َﻳ ُﺔ اَﻟْﻜُ ْﺮ ِﳼ‬

Ayatul Kursi also known as the Throne Verse is one of the most powerful verses from the Qur’an. Labelled as the greatest Ayah due to the number of times Allah’s attributes are mentioned within the ayah itself,

‫ُﺳﻮ َر ُة اَﻟْ َﺒ َﻘ َﺮة‬

Ayatul Kursi is the 255th ayah of Surah Al-Baqarah which is the longest surah in the Qur’an. Ayatul Kursi mentions the names of Allah  seven times in total. We will break down the verse on the next page and hopefully after learning its English translation, you will read it daily for its benefits.

Benefits of Ayatul Kursi

30

SECONDS ONLY

1) Jannah Awaits You! Prophet Muhammad told us that if we read Ayatul Kursi after each of the five daily prayers, then nothing will stop us from entering Jannah. It only takes 30 seconds to read Ayatul Kursi after each prayer. You can do it!

2) A Guardian Angel Prophet Muhammad told us to read Ayatul Kursi before we go to sleep at night. He  said that by reading Ayatul Kursi from start to finish before we go to sleep at night, Allah would send an Angel to protect us until the morning.

‫َﻣﻠَﻚ‬

3) Protection All-Day Long Prophet Muhammad advised us to read Ayatul Kursi in the morning and in the evening. If we read it in the morning, then we are protected from any harm until the evening; and if we read it in the evening, we are protected until the morning! If you have already memorized Ayatul Kursi, that’s excellent. If you haven’t, we suggest you memorize it as soon as possible so that you can read it throughout the day: once in the morning, five times after each prayer, once in the evening and one more time before you go to bed every night, insha’Allah! If you do this, then you are protected all day and all night long and nothing will be standing between you and entering Jannah insha’Allah, except death. myDeen.club

Th This is will will hheellpp yo youu und understand erstand the the ayah ayah bbetter. etter.

Allah! There is no god except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining.

1

Allah  starts the ayah by making us declare that there is no one or no thing that is worth worshipping other than Him. He is Ever-Living meaning He was never born nor will die and He is All-Sustaining meaning He never needs help.

2

Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. Allah  is above and beyond all states of drowsiness or sleep. Allah could never be negligent, unaware, nor tired to His creation. Rather, He  is always aware of everything that goes on in the Universe and it never tires Him out.

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens & whatever is on the Earth.

3

Allah  rightfully claims that everything that is in the heavens and everything that is on Earth belongs to Him. There is nothing that exists outside of Allah’s knowledge and nothing can come into existence without Allah’s permission.

Who could possibly intercede with Him without His permission?

4

The word intercede means to persuade someone in authority not to punish or , Allah  will be the harm someone. On the Day of Judgement only One who can allow us to enter Jannah through His Mercy.

He ˹fully˺ knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them,

5

Allah  reminds us that He has perfect knowledge of everything including what had happened in the past and what will happen in the future. Allah  is not bound by time, for He has no beginning and He has no end, unlike us.

No one can grasp any of His knowledge, except what He wills ˹to reveal˺.

6

Allah  (alone) knows what is seen and unseen, and He does not disclose His knowledge of the unseen to anyone, except a messenger whom He has chosen. No one can attain His knowledge or know of the future without His permission.

His KURSI encompasses the heavens and the earth,

7 8 9

In general, KURSI is translated as throne or seat, but it could also mean Allah’s, Knowledge or Power. The throne of Allah  is totally different from anything we could imagine, and no one can estimate or think of how it is, except Allah alone.

And the preservation (upkeep) of both does not tire Him. Near the end of the ayah, Allah  reminds us again that He has no trouble in preserving and managing whatever is in heavens and Earth, and that it is an easy matter for Allah . His preservation and authority never tires Him out.

For He is the Most High, the Greatest. The last part of the ayah refers to the names of Allah  that we use when we are in the Rukuu and Sujood positions during prayers. Allah  is the Most High which means He is above all others. He is also the Greatest and has no equal.
