Spring Clean your Dorm Room Written on March 20, 2011 by SherRon Marcek The time of year has come to clear the cobwebs and let in some sunshine! That dreary dorm room of yours could probably use a good deep clean and a small face lift. Here are a few ways to breathe some new life into your study space.

1. Crank up the tunes- One of the easiest ways to make time fly while doing less-than-enjoyable things is to do them with music. Queue up your most recent playlist on your iPod and jam out while clean. 2. Set a Reward- Once you’ve finished cleaning your room you deserve a reward. Make plans with some friends to go shoe shopping or catch a movie. Head out to dinner with a date or meet up with the guys for some drinks. Having something to look forward to will help you to stay focused and it won’t feel as much like a chore. Just make sure you actually finish your project before rewarding yourself. 3. Clear out clutter- Start by getting rid of those things you’ll no longer be needing. Box up you thick sweaters and coats and store them somewhere out of the way. Put last semester’s books away or on a less convenient shelf. Empty your garbage and any other scraps of trash you may have around. 4. Wash your Bedding- While your sheets should be getting a weekly bath, now is a great time to bring your comforter to the dry cleaners. If your comforter doesn’t need to be dry cleaned, take it down to the laundry mat but don’t plan on going anywhere. Throughout the wash cycle open the washer and redistribute the blanket around to make sure it is all being washed. You’ll need to do this again with the

dryer, so bring a book to study in your down time. Now would also be a great time to replace your pillow. 5. Clear off your desk- Remove everything from your study space and give your desk a good scrub down. Wipe desktop items off as you place them back on your desk. Make sure that you have everything you need within reach, but organized well so your desk doesn’t look cluttered and overwhelming. 6. Vacuum- and not just the places you can see. Make sure to move your bed, desk, and other items that sit on the floor. While you may not be able to see those places all of the time, they are certainly collected and harvesting your dust bunnies. 7. Work with Roommates- If you share a living space with roommates, come to an agreement with them about how the rest of the place will be cleaned. Divide up tasks or work together to get everything in tip top shape. Click here for more tips on dealing with roommates. 8. Bring in some Color- Not only will something new brighten up your place, but it will also help you to see other things in a new light. Try adding a rug for an easy pop of color or spring for some fresh flowers. Even carnations can look stunning when bunched together.
