Antioch’s History of Powerful Leadership In May 1913 Rev. L. W. Powell was installed as Antioch Missionary Baptist Church’s first pastor. The following is the list of subsequent pastors who have served this great ministry: Rev. J. C. Melton; Rev. J.D. McCrae; Rev. B. F. Johnson; Rev. C.C. Staton; Rev. C. D. Lipscomb; Rev. R. C. Stover; Rev. Louis Wright; Rev. Hassell Joyner; Rev. H.V. Brown; Rev. B. L. Rich; Rev. J.E. Arnette; Rev. Robert Davis; Rev. J. H. Ward; Rev. William C.Butts; Rev. O’ Clee Lewis; Rev. James E. Williams; and our current pastor Rev. Dr. Kenneth J. Tate

A Move of God Unlike anything we’ve seen in Goldsboro NC In October of 2016 Hurricane Matthew flooded our entire church grounds and buildings. We sustained water damage to every square foot of space in our entire structure including the bathrooms, kitchen and all the heating and cooling systems of the church. For a brief period we thought our church was forever uninhabitable and we were financially in ruins. Although cast down we were not forsaken. Somehow in the midst of calamity God demonstrated that he would never leave us nor forsake us. Within 6 months we were once again worshipping in our newly renovated sanctuary. We had become a living witness for the city of Goldsboro of what God can and will do for his faithful children. To God be the glory for the things he has done.

First Lady Teresa H. Tate The Woman behind the Pastor A pastor’s calling is a marvelous calling but at times, can be very challenging, lonely, exciting, frustrating, and yet very satisfying. Just as it is important for any man to have a help mate, it is doubly important for a pastor to have that “special someone” to assist and fulfill God’s calling for their “special work” or ministry. The Bible does not address the involvement of the pastor's wife in any ministry. In other words, the pastor and his wife determine how active the pastor's wife should be. The main area of responsibility for any wife is to support and be submissive to her husband (Ephesians 5:22-24). However, if the Lord calls a man into the ministry, He calls the whole man, and that includes the man's wife and his family. Therefore we acknowledge First Lady, Teresa H. Tate for her work in the ministry with her husband, Rev. Dr. Kenneth J. Tate

I Am the Preacher’s Wife I am the woman who proudly sits in the shadows as her husband stands in the light. I am the one who knows her husband is a gift from God, and so I give him back to my Lord through his full-time service. Often times, I am so lonely for him because I share him with others. But I am also pleased that he gives of himself so unselfishly. I am the one who encourages the preacher when others sometimes fail to. I am the one who listens to his dreams for the church and helps him look into the future and see his dreams become a reality. And when others wonder if he really cares, I am the one who sees him on his knees, shedding tears for the future of the Lord's church. I am the preachers wife.

God's Instrument This pastor appreciation poem is about how God uses pastors in our lives. I see the hands that hold God's word And fold in prayer to seek His will. I see the feet that walk the path And offers of praise as from lofty hill. I see the hands that serve Him well, The ears that seek to hear His call, The mouth that speaks truth and wisdom, The busy feet that carry the message to all. I see the heart that was pricked and entered When God's man answered the gospel call And yielded His life as a humble servant, A man who is willing, as was Apostle Paul. I see all of this as he stands in the pulpit, An instrument through which God speaks The words of wisdom, of love and peace, 22

Why Antioch church is the destination place for the 21st century family coaching programs, and personal and spiritual developmental initiatives. As a result of these findings, we learned that Antioch must become a key spiritual resource to educate and minister to Millennials of our community. That means designing a ministry that specifically reaches them where they are and offers Christ centered solutions. We must become a destination place for spiritual growth for the 21st century family. What issues challenged them spiritually?

What were their interests, and most of all what spiritual needs could we address through our ministry?

Dr. Kenneth J. Tate and the Five Star Antioch Child Care Academy Preschool and Day Care Services for the Goldsboro community .

It’s 7 am and Dr. Tate has just arrived to oversee the morning operation of the Antioch Child Care Academy. Teachers arrive and begin organizing their lesson plans and classrooms for the children that are about to arrive for the school day. As the Director of the Five Star Child Care Academy, Dr. Tate takes pride in making sure that teachers are prepared with everything they need to serve the children enrolled in the Preschool and the Day Care programs. Dr. Tate manages a comprehensive education program that involves hiring and training staff and teachers; physical plant maintenance and upkeep; compliance with WAGES regulations, and the department of health and various other regulatory agencies. When we say Dr. Tate handles the physical plant and maintenance we mean just that. He often can be found handling repairs, painting entire classrooms, assisting with installing new floors, installing locks, replacing cabinets, fixing toilets, sinks and handling the weekly food shopping responsibilities for the center. To many of his Child Care Academy staff he is a disciplined leader with a no-nonsense approach and a drive for excellence. Simply put, he wants the job done and he wants it done right because he knows that the parents expect excellence from every aspect of the center. On the flip side, staff know him as a very personable leader always communicating, expressing concern, and asking questions. Dr. Tate is known among WAGES, our main partnership organization, as one of the most dedicated, knowledgeable, and committed leaders of any Child Care Academy in Wayne County. In 2017, almost one year after Hurricane Matthew forced the closure of the Child Care Center main classrooms Dr. Tate led the center to its first ever Five Star certification rating. He could have given up and assumed that it was God who destroyed the Child Care Center through the hurricane and therefore not worth rebuilding. He chose instead to rebuild the program from the ground up and open the doors once again a resource for the families of the Goldsboro community. With 14, thousand young families living within the city of Goldsboro, Dr. Tate knows the importance of serving this critical need for the community.

He also did additional study at the University of South Carolina Sumter campus. Pastor Newton was employed at Morris College in various capacities from Coordinator of Student Activities, and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Officer until June 1996, when he began serving fulltime at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. In 1982, he was called to “lead the flock” at the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Newton continues in leading and directing the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church family through the phases of a “vision” that he received to benefit the church and its surrounding community. Phase Two of his vision to build an accredited Christian and Academic Development Center and a Family Life Enrichment Center have been accomplished. However, the vision continues in that one day the Christian and Academic Development Center will be accredited to have enrollment from infancy thru 12th grade. Phase Three of his vision is unfolding as the Church prepares to move into its state-of-the-art facility for God’s people. Under the leadership of Pastor Newton, the church celebrated its 100 Years Anniversary (1911-2011) and going into Pastor Newton’s 30th year as Pastor of the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church and serving the Sumter Southside Community.

Dr. Tate continues to operate the Antioch Child Care Center through his knowledge, experience and dedication, but most of all through God’s grace and goodness. The Antioch Child Care Academy operates based upon a curriculum design called the Creative Curriculum which focuses on whole child development. The domains in this curriculum include: cognitive, language, social/emotional, and physical development. The following is the mission of Antioch Child Care Academy: To provide authentic educational activities for preschoolers in their early formative years before they enter the public school system; The teaching of religious values, honesty, respect, self-worth, personal accountability and socialization skills. This is done as part of the child’s learning process. Training up a child in the way he or she should go is ministry in action. A child’s needs are diversified and cannot be fulfilled without a holistic approach to education. Academics and religious experiences are integral parts of the learning process. Therefore, the Antioch Child Care Academy seeks to relate the child, not only to the classroom academics, but also religious experiences.
