From Your Madam President

February is a very busy month at 2308 As I sit here typing this, there are a lot of upcoming events that I am thinking about. I am hoping everyone reads their newsletters and comes out and helps support these events. We have the Grand Madam President Jean Kerr coming on Tuesday, February 2. This a great honor as not every Auxiliary gets the privilege of hosting her. Thursday, February 11 is our meeting and initiation, then on the 28th, we will have our business meeting. We have a cake walk coming up on Wednesday, February 17 with the proceeds going to all charities. I, along with all of the officers of the Auxiliary, would love to see you at a meeting. Please come, Remember Laughter is the Best Kind of Medicine!! — Loni Andrews, Madam President

Join us for Super Bowl Sunday on February 7 Grand Madam President Our annual Super Bowl party will be on Sunday, February 7 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are on sale at the bar. Please come down and join us. This year we are watching the commercials. Your ticket includes drink specials, food and door prize drawings. Thanks. — Your Super Bowl Committee

Thanks for helping our ‘Fallen Hero’! Fabulous Eagles have come forward again to prove that we are a bunch of “People helping People.” For the second time in just over a month, we held a benefit dinner for a “Fallen Hero” who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the residents of our county, so we tried to do a little something in return for his family. On the evening of January 14, the Aerie and Auxiliary had a sellout dinner along with a raffle and donation jar that will provide more than $2,100

Daffodil Roamers News

Roamers are cooking up a great year of trips

directly to Officer Kent Mundell’s family. In only one week our volunteers and our members pulled off a near-perfect event. It seems that everywhere you looked that evening, people had a somber, yet gleeful smile at what was going on around the Aerie hall. In December, the Aerie and Auxiliary presented the Lakewood Police Officers’ Guild checks totaling $1,000 and then here, shortly after Christmas when many of our members bought gifts for needy families, food for our local food bank and donated generously to our other charities, we came through again. Thank you to all for making this happen so quickly without a hitch and with everyone smiling from our hearts. Also, thank to all of you for your raffle item donations, ticket purchases and monetary donations for the Mundell family. — Bob & Shireen Ainsworth

From your Aerie Trustees

Crabs & Oysters again in March!!

The smell is gone! We finally found the source of the bad smell in the dining area. It was a broken sewer vent pipe which we fixed. We haven’t had the smell since. Thank God! We would also like to say thank you to all the new and ongoing volunteers who have been helping on the many different things going on around here. I have seen a lot of new faces and hope to see more. If you would like to volunteer, just ask Loni. Come down for Chicken and Jo’s on Mondays. The money made from this goes into the new carpet fund. We were able to purchase enough carpet to install everywhere except the dining area. That will be next, so please come down for chicken on Mondays. We will be looking for some help to remove and reinstall the new carpeting for the entrance, hallways and bar areas. Let Loni know you would like to help. We are raffling off a flat screen TV for the carpet fund as well, so get your tickets soon. There will only be 100 tickets sold for $10 each. The TV will be raffled off on Saturday, February 6 at 8 p.m. (the day before the Super Bowl), so get your tickets early.

Last year in July at the Grand Aerie convention in Reno, Mike Lagervall from Ballard Aerie #172 became our Grand Worthy President. His year will be coming to an end and it is traditional that a “Homecoming” in his honor be held. Since Ballard Aerie does not have a home at present and Mike is a dual member in Puyallup, he has asked us to host his Homecoming at our Aerie hall this summer. On Sunday, March 7, we will have a crab and oyster feed with the proceeds going to help defray the expenses of Mike’s Homecoming. You will get a crab and a half, cole slaw and garlic bread for $20. We will also have nickel beer. You can also have an oyster dinner with the usual trimming for $9. Tickets will be limited to 100 for the crab dinner and 100 for the oysters. You can get tickets at the Secretary’s office or from Loni or the bartender. They will be available Monday, February 8. We expect that the Homecoming will “pack the house” on July 17 as there will be guests from across the country. Any money raised that is not needed will go to the Diabetes Research Center. — Leonard Blakely, International Director of the Diabetes Fund And Ellen Blakely, Grand Aerie Mother

Retired Eagles Activities Club

Meet our new officers We are starting a new year and have some new officers. Joyce Louderback is President and Bill Whitney is Vice President. Della Hallengren is Secretary and Bernice Whitney is Treasurer. Sunshine Chairman is Lorraine Stewart. We hope for a healthy and happy New Year for all members. We hope for a good turnout for the State Convention hosted by South Tacoma in April. A number of us will attend to support REAC. If you are a member and interested, please sign up. See you at our meetings! — Joyce Louderback, Reporter

Look up! We have a bright new ceiling Our ceiling is really white. In case you haven’t noticed or haven’t been to your Aerie in three months, we’ve totally put up all new ceiling tiles — more than 800 tiles to be exact. Debbie Semler started the ball rolling with a donation “earmarked” for ceiling tiles and Mary Johnson and I held a couple of bucket raffles. In addition, Eddie’s Spaghetti and Jimmy T.s candy game donated money from various funds. The balance was paid for by the Aerie Improvement Fund. The job at times was definitely a test of one’s patience. However, the crew had lots of laughter through the entire project. The following people worked in some capacity — whether it be tile work, electrical work, cutting the tiles,

vacuuming, setting the tables plus numerous other jobs including bringing in pizza, chicken and lots of donuts that were quickly devoured by the crew: Dave & Loni Andrews, Mike Andrews, Fred Bums, Mark & Kathy Crouchet, Clif & Phyllis Dickson, Jeanna Hansen, Mary Johnson, Pat Jorgenson, Jerry Lawson, Jerry Lindstrom, Jerry Miller, Bob Reynolds, Jim Tomaro, Jimmy Trinchini, Dale & Carol Walthers, Joe Whalen and Jackie Zehndar. They are so appreciated for all their work. If by chance you know any of these people, pat them on the back and say “thank you” to just let them know their efforts were not in vain. Doesn’t the Aerie have a cleaner looking appearance? Ask Loni why she should enter the Olympics for the 100 yard dash. — Bob Reynolds

A few words from you Aerie Worthy President Hello again Brothers and Sisters, Well we’re already one month into the new year! I hope that so far it’s been good to all of you and that you’re all in good health. When January came, we started up the District #7 meetings again. The meeting this month is being held in Black Diamond where nominations for the District officers will take place. If you would like to be nominated, you’ll need to be present at the meeting or turn in a letter of acceptance for the nomination that you’re interested in. I’ll be happy to carry the letter to the meeting for you if you cannot attend. Please turn in any letters to our Secretary and I’ll be sure to get them delivered. We, here at Daffodil #2308, will host the District #7 Meeting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 14. Speaking of meetings, I am very pleased to say that the attendance at our own meetings is growing. It’s nice to see new faces. I’m also happy to report that we seem to be initi-

ating more members each month. Just a reminder, law enforcement, fire fighters and other emergency personnel have their initiation fees and first year’s dues paid when they join. So if they’re interested, bring them by to see what we’re all about. They will still need to be interviewed and initiated before becoming members. Now this month we have some good things happening. We’ll have the Grand Madam President visiting on February 2. We’ll also have the Sweet Heart Dance, a Youth Activities Dinner, and the Ken Wilson Memorial Dinner. Don’t forget the Super Bowl Party. We’ll also be having Bingo and Texas Hold’em, so please check your calenders for details as some events have been rescheduled. As always, I wish to thank all of our volunteers, and I thank you all for your support and advise. I wish you all good health. — Fraternally, Jonas White, Worthy President.
