summer - at last I hope you are all enjoying the wonderful weather and are trying to get out in it! It is amazing how the sun can change an attitude! The State Eagles Convention in Yakima was a lot of fun! Our Auxiliary was recognized with several awards. We are hoping that next year we will get even more. If any of you Sisters are interested in helping out or chairing a charity or an event, please contact me. There are several things to choose from. In September we will be having a competition with our Aerie Brothers on who sells the most Fair Burgers. We are working on perfecting our “special sauce” We are looking forward to kicking the Aerie Brothers’ “buns” I want to remind our Auxiliary Sisters that our meetings are on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. The meetings have been over by 9 p.m. or earlier. Please come to a meeting to see what is going on in our Auxiliary.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT We always announce when the meetings are. What can I do to get you to come to a meeting??? I am up for the challenge!! Have a great summer! — Your Madam President, Penny Fiedler “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.”

Enjoy Our August Summer Sun!!!

New Auxiliary Funeral Committee contact list

Texas Hold’em

July’s tournament draws 105 players

The Auxiliary Funeral Committee will be creating a new contact list of volunteers who would like to donate their time and/or food dishes for funeral and memorial services held at the Puyallup Aerie #2308. If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact Nancy Gould at (253) 841-0619 or Kim Edwards at (253) 770-1441. Thank you for all your support. — Nancy Gould, Chairman — Kim Edwards, Co-Chairman

Even with birthdays, weddings and vacations, we had a great game with 105 players on Sunday, July 11. That’s not bad for a game in the summer. The winners were: First, Ralf Meithe; second, Aaron Cox; third, Ante Matanovic; fourth, Montana Saunders; fifth, Rory Knox; sixth, Mike Kriedeman; seventh, Glen Harris; eighth, Ritchy Morehouse; and ninth, Jimmy Rice. Our next Texas Hold’em game will be on Sunday, Aug.15. Bring a friend. Don’t forget, we will be drawing 21 names to have 120 players for the Tournament of Champions in December, so make sure you will have played in three games by November and have joined the Eagles. Listen up — don’t think you can wait until November to join. It’s too late then. In other words, you’d better join by no later than September. C.U. in August. — Bob Reynolds, Chairman (253) 535-6706 or (253) 230-2308

Retired Eagles Activities Club

We’re off to Alder Lake on August 26 R.E.A.C. members are invited to a picnic at Alder Lake on Thursday, August 26 at noon. Our friends at Eatonville are hosting. Chicken and coffee will be provided. Bring your favorite potluck dish and all utensils, dishes, etc. and a comfortable chair. If you need transportation, call me at (253 ) 564-3281 and I’ll put you in touch with someone who can give you a ride. We always have a great time, so come and join us. — Joyce Louderback, Reporter

Don’t wait! Reserve you cookbooks now! We have now collected our 500 recipes for our Eagles Cookbook fund-raiser. Each book will be a beautifully hardbound three-ring binder with tabs. The Daffodil 2308 Cookbook cover will be custom with a picture of our club. Inside will be historical information on the Puyallup Eagles. There are recipes from our old timers, some who have passed, along with recipes from current members. We will order 500 books and anticipate kicking them off at our Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, November 7, in time for Christmas gifts. You may reserve as many books as you like by emailing me at mybrown29@gmail.com or calling (253) 841-8584. I will need your name and phone number, and the quantity of books desired. Each book will be $15 and you pay when you receive your books. We have already reserved almost 100 books. One member reserved 10 for children and grandchildren. Don’t miss out and reserve yours!

Another study found golfers drank on average 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means, on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon! Kind of makes you proud! It almost feels like a hybrid! — Milo
