loveis Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT
15 CONTENTS 4 WORSHIP turn it up 6 FAITH an outward sign 7 CONNECT small groups 8 FAQ things to know 15 OUR HEART social justice 16 NEXT STEP new believer 18 BELIEFS the basics 19 CULTURE who we are
“We exist to Accept, Love, and Serve, God, Each Other, and our Community.”
Why The Journey? Because love starts with acceptance. Our journey’s look different. We look different. God made us unique. Our mission statement is simple because we have a simple culture. If we “accept, love and serve,” we can’t go wrong. Our purpose in everything we do is to accomplish this mission. Our culture is organic. Jesus focused on relationship, so we focus on relationship.
We want to do more than attend church together, we want to do life together. We grow, we change, and most importantly, we listen to see how God is shaping our church. We believe that church isn’t what happens on the weekend. Connection and relationship is paramount in who we are. Are you ready to accept, love, and serve?
Acceptance of God often begins with the realization that God accepts us. He loves and desires relationship with every person walking the planet. We desire to show that acceptance to others. We want each one of our community to accept Jesus. Many of them have yet to do so. In fact, at least half of our city don’t even attend church. For some of them, it’s because they haven’t explored faith, for others, they have been turned away and rejected when they asked honest questions about faith, and for others, they have been turned off by their experience of “church.” Our goal is to give each one of these people a place where they can be a part of a group of people while they struggle through their search for God. We want to accept them where they are on their journey towards Christ. Our prayer is that as people come in contact with us and experience God’s love through us, that they will come to know Him as well. You’ll find a lot of people who are rough around the edges here at the Journey. We Love it! We believe Jesus was right in the middle of people in their every day lives and problems. The Pharisees confused his presence with his acceptance of their sin. He didn’t condone their sin, but He stepped into their lives right where they were so He could demonstrate the amazing love of God to them.
That’s a big word! We believe it’s an action, not an idea. God loved us so much, it moved him to give up his own Son to die for us. (John 3:16) That’s the kind of love we want to have for God, each other, and our community.
This is the outward demonstration of the love we have in our heart. It’s the action part of our mission statement. We want to lay our lives down for God, allowing him to be glorified through our actions.
We think a great way to honor God is by serving one another. Jesus talked a lot about this concept to the group of guys he lived life with... Who are you living life with?
We want to be of service to our community. God placed us in Russellville, and we want to make a difference here, serving the people of this city. That’s who we are and what we’re about. We don’t get it right a lot of the time, but that’s the motivating force behind who we are and what we want to accomplish by being here.
Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Psalm 100:2 NLT
Worship like never before, Connect with God in a real way. Our worship music may be a little more amp’d up than other churches. Some people may wonder if it is even worship at all. Is church music supposed to be played that loud? We say... YES! At least that is how we do it. Worship is about singing out praises to our creator. You may see some people swaying to the music. You may see others with their arms raised. Some people sit. Sing or not. We encourage you to do whatever makes you feel comfortable. You are free to be you.
At first, you might just sit there. After a few services, you might even stand. If you really feel bold, you might even try raising your arms. Raising your arms isn’t just about getting caught up in the music, it is an act of submission to God. It is humble reverence to the creator of the universe! Again though, do what you feel comfortable doing. God knows your heart. Our wish is that you experience God like never before. Don’t just sing with your mouth, sing with you heart.
Sign of an inward faith
We are commanded to repent and be Baptized. “Therefore, go make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
One Night is a special night of worship. We receive communion, take time to reflect on our relationship with God, and allow for an extended period of praise and worship. If you are looking to connect with God on an intimate, personal level, this may be the experience for you. We hope you join us for the next One Night.

Small groups make big community What is a small group?
Well, generally it is a group of people with a common interest that hang on a regular basis. Some groups may be structured with a curriculum. Other groups may just get together for fellowship. As we get to know each other and invest in each others lives, as we grow together both spiritually and emotionally, the whole “body” is strengthened as each of the individual “cells” connect to each other.
Why is joining a small group important?
Once you start your journey of faith, you may find that your spiritual cup doesn’t stay “full” on it’s own. Attending service on the weekend is just part of the process, but it shouldn’t stop there. Jesus did life with His disciples. Small groups provide connection on another level. As our relationships develop, we begin to speak into each other’s lives. We begin to develop an authentic connection within the body.
How long will the small group last? Most small groups last a “semester.” We start most new groups in the fall and spring. Why not longer? Not everyone will always “click” with everyone they meet and that’s ok. It is like that in a lot families. Most groups go on hiatus for the summer, but we generally have a lot of activities that offer opportunity for connection during this time period.
What about my children? Nursery for ages 4 and under and J-KIDS (Journey Kids in Discipleship) for kids 5 and over is offered Sunday nights from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. You can check the J-KIDS schedule online at www. myjourney.tv for holiday breaks, etc. (Child friendly small groups will indicate so on group description)
How do I join a small group?
You can sign up at the information desk or on your comment card. We encourage you to give the small group leader a call. Connecting with each other is as important as the topic of the group.
Does joining a small group cost anything?
Some small groups have a book you may need to purchase or a piece of equipment you will need to own. Contact your small group leader for this information.
Where does my small group meet?
Some small groups meet at The Journey, others meet in homes of the leaders. Contact your small group leader to verify where and when your small group will meet.
Can I join a group in progress?
Most groups welcome additional members. Contact the group leader to find out if you can still join after the start up date.

Frequently Asked Questions How Long Is The Service?
Our services are about an hour long. We believe there is something special about an hour. We have a lot that goes on during that time, so you’ll want to arrive a little bit early, grab some coffee and settle in before we get started.
How Should I Dress?
Come as you are. People mainly wear jeans and tee shirts. During the summer people may wear shorts and sandals. We treat our gatherings as outings with family and friends and dress accordingly. Feel free to wear whatever you are comfortable wearing.
Where Do I Go? Park?
We have reserved parking for you if you are a guest. Once you enter the building, our hospitality team will help you find our nurseries, children’s areas, and assist in any way they can. Feel free to hit them up for information, that’s why they get paid the big bucks.
What about my kids?
If you have children ages birth-5th grade, we have nurseries and children’s ministries available. You can monitor your child in the nursery from the check-in station via closed circuit security cameras. A call system is in place should your child need you during the service. Our nurseries and children’s areas are open 30 minutes prior to service, so you can come a little early and get situated. Your children ages 6-12 will find their Journey experience in Building B, also known as the Youth Complex in the South-West corner of our parking lot. Ask our hospitality team to direct you to the appropriate check-in station.
What about my teens?
Check out Diverse City, Youth Service (Ages 12-18) on Wednesday nights at 6:30 at the Youth Complex (Building B). We hang, worship and learn how to deal with being a teen.
social justice, social injustice
As Americans we are unbelievably blessed while across the globe and right in our own neighborhoods people are struggling with hardship. In many countries their citizens live without basic sanitation and human rights. They are abused and taken advantage of in ways that we have trouble even discussing. Meanwhile, in our own cities we are oblivious or turn a blind eye to the fact that many of our neighbors and friends live in distressed situations. At The Journey we aren’t just interested in our own journey but want to help others on theirs. Jesus came as a gift to us and we want to share that gift with others. Go to www.myjourney.tv to see how you can make a difference. Select “community” and “social justice.” We want to model our heart after Jesus’ heart.
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Whose life can you change?
your hand, noW what
First of all... AWESOME! We are excited that you have taken the most important step in your walk. Admitting that you need Jesus in your life and asking Him to forgive you of your unrighteousness is going to start a whole life change. You may wonder what is next. What are you supposed to do now? We believe the very first step after salvation starts with reading the bible. We provide a special bible free of charge at The Journey Outfitters. Not only is this bible easy to read, but it also has reading tracks outlined in the very front. Check out the DVD set we have included. This answers questions about everything from who God is to how to pray. We feel this is a great starting point for new believers or people just getting back on their journey.

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1,26,27,3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King. (Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:1415; Titus 2:13)
The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily. (Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Galatians 5:25; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18)
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs about living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error. (2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5)
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. Sin separates us from God and causes many problems in our life. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2)
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:2; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1, 10:9-10)
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in Heaven. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9)
