In February 2012, Congress passed a law that forbids people who receive Temporary Assistance from accessing their TA benefits at casinos, liquor stores, and certain adult stores. Misuse of TA cash benefits can result in a change to who receives the payment of benefits. If caught using TA cash assistance inappropriately your benefits could be paid directly to a provider or another person (protective payee). Having a protective payee means the payment of cash grant goes to a relative or friend who will spend the TA on the needs of the child. You would not be able to use the TA cash benefits anymore. Misuse of TA funds means spending the benefit on things that do not meet the needs of the child and include:  Purchasing alcohol  Purchasing tobacco  Purchasing illegal drugs  Using benefits at an adult store, adult video store, or strip club  Using benefits to gamble (i.e. casinos, bingo) State rules require that Temporary Assistance be used for the benefit of the child or children. Items that you may use your TA benefits on include:

“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they are worthless rather because they are priceless” -Sherry Anderson
