Widely regarded as one of the outstanding highlights of this year's Celtic Connections, Sweden's roots music ambassadors, Väsen, have announced they will be returning to these shores for a whistle-stop tour in April. The powerhouse trio have played Glasgow's big midwinter jamboree on numerous occasions, always appearing in front of capacity crowds. Their current album, Brewed, has been winning them even more media exposure and pulling in five star reviews in some of the biggest publications. When they return in the Spring, they will have photo by Sarah Thorén shows in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Shetland and Aberdeen. The Granite City show is a doubleheader with Heidi Talbot sharing the stage. The band will also return to Gateshead's Sage to keep their big Tyneside fan base happy. In over three decades of making music together in a career described by respected In a career spanning more than thirty years, Songlines writer and broadcaster Fiona Väsen have continued to tour the world. The band's UK agency, Brookfield-Knights, say they are particularly happy to be sending them back to Shetland with its strong Nordic connections, where they previously scored a big success at the island’s world-renowned Folk Festival. "With Shetland Folk Festival happening early in May, it will be a terrific get-you-in-themood warm up at Lerwick's Mareel," said a spokesman. Vasen play The Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, St Andrew's In The Square in Glasgow, and Aberdeen's Lemon Tree.

Last time they were in the UK, BBC World Music presenter Mary Ann Kennedy crowned them “supreme rulers of the trad world” and, reviewing their last Edinburgh show for The Herald, music writer Rob Adams described them as “astonishing,” and added: “if they come anywhere near you, move heaven and earth for a ticket”.

...If you think that sounds like a bit of a tonic, you’ve got it in a oner!

Four day festival set against the unique backdrop of the the Hebrides. Organised by the HCF Trust, this first festival was held in 1996 and now regularly attracts attendances of 14,000 over its four day run. Riverside Rock Jedburgh 23 June

Beauly 2-4 August Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival takes place in the beautiful Highland surroundings of Belladrum Estate, near Beauly in Inverness-shire. The independent festival has built a reputation for its eclectic line-ups, its offbeat non-musical entertainments and its all-ages approach. The festival won a VisitScotland Thistle Award in 2009 and is a past winner of the Grassroots Festival Award at the UK Festival Awards, the festival industry’s ‘Oscars’.

The Festival as the UK's most northerly folk festival is regarded a prestigious event for performers, locals and visitors alike. Organised by a voluntary committee (and run by an even bigger pool of volunteers) the Festival prides itself in reaching out to even the most far flung areas of Shetland. Concerts are organised throughout the isles, consisting of some of the best International, British and Shetland music that the world has to offer. In fact, visiting artistes are regularly dumbfounded by the quantity and quality of local musicians that our remote isles have to offer.

Riverside Rock is a musical extravaganza with something for everyone young and old and designed primarily to help raise cash for our chosen charity and other organisations around the Scottish Borders. Children’s Entertainment includes, Laser Quest, Inflatables of all sorts, Climbing Walls, Wrecking Ball, Kids Fun Fair www.tartanheartfestival.co.uk Rides and much more.
