Spring

2017

Welcome Welcome to our Spring 2017 events programme. From lunchtime student concerts to the popular Cargo Gigs, we cover a broad range of musical tastes and genres. We are also delighted to offer the exciting In The Loop masterclass. We look forward to welcoming more high profile national and international artists, writers, filmmakers and curators, many of whom are multi-award winners, to talk about their practice as part of our acclaimed Visiting Artist Talks. Finally, we are thrilled about our collaboration with the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust to bring you the popular Nelson Mass which the University of Kent Choir and Orchestra (Medway) will perform in the beautiful Royal Dockyard Church. Please join us at this historic event!

Visiting Artist Talk: Heather Phillipson

Visiting Artist Talk: Maria Fusco

Heather Phillipson’s videos and sculptural installations collide images, noises, objects, language and bodies – attending to how physical and affective ‘selves’ are constructed, manipulated and, above all, escape. Also an award-winning poet, she has published three volumes of poetry and was named a Next Generation Poet in 2014. Writer in Residence at the Whitechapel Gallery in 2015, Phillipson was awarded the Friends of Literature Prize from Poetry journal in 2016, and writes a regular column for Art Review. She was shortlisted for the Film London Jarman Award 2016.

Maria Fusco is a Belfast-born writer based in Glasgow, working across fiction, criticism and theory, and has been translated into ten languages. Her latest work, Master Rock, was commissioned by Artangel and BBC Radio 4. She is founder of The Happy Hypocrite, a journal for and about experimental writing. She is currently a Reader at the University of Edinburgh and was Director of Art Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London
