MUSEO PAMBATA FOUNDATION INC . 2018 ANNUAL REPORT

ABOUT MUSEO PAMBATA The Museo Pambata Foundation, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit organization that established the first children’s interactive museum in the Philippines in 1993. The Museo Pambata is a children’s museum with various educational programs in support of children’s rights and a broad range of creative and educational services for children and adults involved in children’s welfare. It is an institutional member of the Philippine Board on Books for Young People and a member of the Zero In Consortium of Museums. In 2000, Museo Pambata received the Pearl Anniversary Reading Advocacy Award from the Reading Association of the Philippines for having “redefined the concept of a museum and for advocating literacy and children’s rights.” It was also named the Most Child-Friendly Foundation in 2010 by the National Council for Children’s Television. “For inspiring the creation of new children’s museums in the Philippines and in Asia,” the Hands On! International Association of Children’s Museums and the European Museum Academy gave Museo Pambata the Children’s Museum Award Special Commendation in 2012 in Bologna, Italy. Museo Pambata was the only non-European museum shortlisted for the First Children’s Museum Award. Museo Pambata was also shortlisted at the 2016 Leading Cultural Destinations Awards (”the Oscars for museums”) as a Best Soft Power Cultural Organization. Since it opened in 1994, the Museo Pambata and its extension programs have welcomed almost 6 million visitors.

To our friends and supporters, Museo Pambata is all about the Filipino child, all about Filipino childhood, and nurturing, protecting and empowering a Filipino community – this is our curatorial message for my vision of Museo Pambata. I have a great curatorial team helping me create a better, newer and more relevant Museo Pambata. The curatorial team is composed of Dayang Yraola, Erwin Romulo, Arch. Timothy Ong and myself. To date, we have developed and created the concepts for the various rooms which will highlight the Filipino child and the value of culture and Filipino values. Palaruan – the playground will feature the pukyutan or a honeycomb, an original design of my father, National Artist for Architecture, Francisco “Bobby” Manosa. This playground will be donated by Tukod Foundation. The plans are endless as Museo Pambata is teeming with so much possibilities. All of this can be possible if only we can harness more people to support and sponsor our dream. Because of this, I have decided to leave my job and dedicate my time and energy to Museo Pambata to make this dream a reality. I need your help to make this come true. Together, we can make this happen. Thank you very much!

Bambi Manosa-Tanjutco President Museo Pambata Foundation, Inc.
