HAIR & MAKEUP

TATTOOS & PIERCING

MISSING LINK Tattoo and piercing salons can be found in every city. But hair and makeup can be just as edgy and adventurous as these other trades. It is an under-serviced market for the customer that wants something different - here they know these artists understand what they want unlike salons that may only rarely get these unique requests. Linking these services with the photography and art gallery aspect of Marked, not only elevates the reputation of the art, but also facilitates consultations. When a customer can look at an artists previous work, they are able to more intelligently select which artist would fit their needs and better describe what they are looking for.

COMPOSITION Great work can not be done justice without great presentation. Now more than ever people are judging the book by its cover, the product by its packaging, the person by how they present themselves. Currently body art professionals in the majority do not have the means to capture their art form with quality photography. Marked will encourage and enable them to easily photograph their art to compose in a professional and attractive portfolio.

CUSTOMER SHIFT No longer is body modification just for the biker gangs and heavy metal crowd. People in every social circle have gone under the needle, yet tattoo shops stay the same. Although the grunge shop aesthetic has its familiar and expected appeal, with the culture of tattoos shifting, there is a need for alternative options for the ever expanding customer range.

artisinal designs In the later half of the 20th Century the most popular tattoos were known as “Flash. Customers would walk into the tattoo shop and choose a tattoo from the flipbooks displayed on the walls. Although people still use these today, completely custom designed tattoos have become mainstream and overtaken the flash tattoo world due largely to a desire for self-expression and individualism. Now customers come in with a sketch, an inspiration image, or just an idea, and the artists create a one of a kind piece of art for their skin. Tattoos are no longer designed in two dimensions. Great designs are created by composing them on the body as you would art on a canvas. This requires increased thoughtfullness, creativity, and composition for each design, with the skill and training of a fine artist.

Artisinal design comes at a price. $150 an hour on average. See the steps included to make your mark a reality.

Often with tatoos, the custom artwork can be extensive, so after initial consultation customer can make an appointment for another date to come back for services. When customer returns, artist brings customer to reserved tattoo station. After sterilization and tattoo design is finalized, it is printed into temporary tattoo tracing transfer ink and applied to proposed area. Customer to confirm sizing and placement before tattooing begins.

photography Meet with artist in lounge and discuss what customer would like. For facilitating this, there are digital tables to access portfolios and look up inspirational images online as well as a large consultation bar which is a light table for sketching. Consultation can include if requested a digital composition test where design is digitally applied to image of you for approval.

Artist will get sterile supplies needed from the supply station and bring to station. Service is performed.

Customer will be photographed in one of the photo studios or any other space throughout the building. Artist will edit shots for the customer and these can be emailed as well as prints ordered if desired.

the spatial design as well as the floor patterns are designed based off two sets of angles. On the east wing of the mezzanine (hair & makeup) the angled design is based on the angle of the building. the furniture and spatial layout follows this, as well as a derivation of this angle in the floor design. On the west wing of the mezzanine (tattoo & piercing) the angle for design is 45. although these spaces speak to each other through their angular design, they are also distinct, just like the art forms that use them. The first floor spatial and floor design is based off a combination of these two sets of angles representing the art forms working together in harmony.

Artists will reserve a station for specified hours when they have an appointment. They can do this at the workstation or with the receptionist or even on their phone. Advantages of this is that every time a station is used, it has to be thoroughly cleaned when the artist leaves it. it is also convenient to be able to reserve a more or less private station depending on the customer.
