In 2007, planning pe rmission was grante d for a re -de ve lopme nt of th e island to a h igh de nsity, mixe d-u se re side ntial-le d de ve lopme nt. Th is proposal inclu de d a pe de strian foot-bridge le ading from th e North point of th e island to th e oth e r side of th e rive r. Th e bridge was installe d in 2014 at th e start of th e constru ction proce ss.
