NovelisNovelis Deutschland GmbH, Werk Göttingen FALZONAL® is coated on both sides: top side with PVdF, reverse side with protective lacquer. In addition, the top side is covered with a strippable film. Roofing and wall claddings in Standing Seam Technology. Aluminium coils or sheets, coil-coated on top side with a multi-layer PVdF system, reverse side with transparent protective lacquer.

PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

See Appendix sheet 1 Under normal conditions of use and storage these materials are not toxic. On opening pallets of material there is no risk of laceration of skin when handling the material. Risk of laceration of skin and eye injury due to release of tension of banded coil or sheet material. During production of the material the surface is coated with a special protective foil to assist the PVdF coat in the roll-forming process. The protective foil is made of a special anti-slip material to prevent the danger of slipping in a roofing application. Aluminium alloy does not constitute a fire hazard except in a finely divided form, i.e. powder or dust. For major products of combustion/decomposition see Appendix Sheet 2.

STORAGE PRECAUTIONS

Aluminium is not classified as dangerous for conveyance by road. Coils are transported on banded pallets normally weighing 2.5 — 3.0 tonnes per pallet, with four pallets per load. For off-loading and lifting recommendations see Appendix Sheet3.

HANDLING/USE

17.02.09 Page 2/8 Issue 2

Suitable clothing and equipment such as hand and eye protection (safety glasses) should be worn to prevent laceration to skin and eye damage when opening coils and banded pallets, handling and cutting material. Suitable protective gloves must be worn when handling the sheet to prevent laceration by material. When cutting material, avoid the inhalation of dust. This should be achieved by good ventilation or by the use of local exhaust ventilation. If this is not sufficient to maintain concentration of dust particles at a level below occupation exposure standard (OES), suitable respiratory protection must be worn. Aluminium sheets are light and have a large wind uplift area, therefore, exercise caution when storing open pallets and lifting individual sheets. Lash down open pallets and discontinue fixing work in strong winds, immediately secure individual sheets to sub-structure. The last sheet laid should be secured to prevent it from blowing away. It is recommended to wear rubber soled footwear in order to reduce the risk of slipping when working with material in a roofing application.

DISPOSAL PRECAUTIONS

Aluminium alloy can be recycled.

EMERGENCY ACTION FIRE, SPILLAGE, FIRST AID In the event of fire, evacuate immediate area. Appropriate respiratory protective equipment should be used by fire fighters. In the event of injury to skin or eyes, seek immediate medical attention. In the event of exposure to dust: Eye contact

irrigate copiously with clear fresh water holding the eyelids apart;

Skin contact

wash skin thoroughly with soap and water or use appropriate skin cleaner. Seek medical attention.

APPENDIX SHEET 2 HEALTH HAZARDS WELDING & SOLDERING

NOVELIS FALZONAL should be neither welded nor soldered since the colour coating otherwise burns off and is destroyed. Should NOVELIS FALZONAL, however, be welded or soldered, the following precautions should be taken: MIG Welding, Soldering or plasma arc cutting of aluminium can generate ozone, nitric oxides and ultraviolet radiation. Ozone over-exposure may result in mucous membrane irritation, as well as other pulmonary discomforts. Fumes may also arise from volatilisation or its electrodes or its coatings. The inhalation of freshly formed metallic oxides such as cadmium, chrome, nickel, which may be present as alloying constituents, may cause welding fume fever. Good ventilation is recommended and observance of normal protective measures generally applicable to welding operators. It should be noted that ozone can be generated quite a distance from the arc.

APPENDIX SHEET 3 FIRE HAZARDS OFF-LOADING, LIFTING AND ON SITE STORAGE INSTRUCTION FOR NOVELIS FALZONAL TRANSPORTION

FALZONAL coils and sheet material are normally packed on wooden pallets and transported on open vehicles. A pallet can weigh between 200 kg and 400 kg for coil or up to 3.0 tonnes maximum for sheets.

CHECK DELIVERIES

Although expertly packed before delivery the material should be checked for transit damage. Defects and discrepancies should be recorded on the freight documents (way bill, delivery note) and countersigned by the carrier. Immediately inform the supplier of any dimensional and quantity deviations.

UNLOADING AT BUILDING SITE

Make arrangements for lifting gear such as cranes or fork lift trucks, and dependant upon sheet length or individual coil weight ensure that sling

belts and spreader beams or lifting beams are available. Use cables with edge protection when suspending wooden pallets. Form of delivery: - Axis horizontal - Axis eye to the sky

STORAGE

17.02.09 Page 8/8 Issue 2

Never unload the sheets directly on the ground. Support on wooden battens of nominal 80 mm x 80 mm cross section area. Wherever possible, store the pallets under roof cover in dry, dust free conditions with adequate ventilation to prevent condensation.

For short term outdoor storage the sheet stacks should be stored on sloping supports and covered with a weatherproof covering (e.g. tarpaulin etc) so as to enable air circulation around individual sheet.

The sheet must be guarded against high winds and protected from cement and mortar.

When storing sheet on the roof, ensure that the bad bearing capacity of the sub-structure is sufficient. Secure pallets against wind and prevent from sliding off. Exercise caution when opening pallets stored at an angle: there is a danger of panels sliding to the side and in the direction of the slope.
