Destination MUMC - MASTER SITE PLAN - PHASE 1 In order to learn more about Phase 1, plan to attend one of the Town Hall style meetings on Sunday, September 29th or October 6th at 9:40 and 11:00 am in the Dining Room. Congregational Vote on Sunday, October 13th, 8 am - 1 pm and 5 - 6 pm in the Dining Room. All professing members of Matthews UMC are eligible to vote. Professing members are youth and adults who have taken their vows of membership. If you have questions about your membership, contact Karen Schultz, at or 704-815-1901 prior to the congregational vote. There will be no absentee ballot or early voting process. Members must be present to vote. The vote will be determined by simple majority. Reviewing the content below that will appear on the ballot will help you prepare for voting day. Proposal: To approve the construction of Phase 1 of the Master Site Plan which includes improvements to the existing Dining Room and Gym to enhance current and future ministries. This construction will be limited to funds in hand, which include grants received and funds remaining from the Together Capital Campaign (D.A.N.). YES. I approve the construction of Phase 1. NO. I do not approve the construction of Phase 1.

Bringing a community together to “Walk for Will” FEELING DOWN? OUR STEPHEN MINISTRY CAN HELP. Stephen Ministers aren’t there just for the “big” crises. They’re also available for smaller ones, because many times the little things can really add up. If anything has you down - big or little - consider the confidential listening ear of a Stephen Minister.

The Henely family, Matthews UMC members, was recently struck with the horrible news that their 7-year-old son, Will, has developed Burkett’s Lymphoma. Treatment began right away, and although it appears his battle with cancer will be long and difficult, he is expected to make a full recovery! Please join friends and neighbors of the Henely family as they work together to assist with the financial burden of this disease.

UMYF Sunday night - Regular Sunday Youth Fellowship schedule is: Café & program start at 6 pm- bring $2 for Café. C-groups (Caring Groups) for 7th - 9th grades will meet from 6 - 8 pm, and A-teams (Accountability Teams) will meet from 6 - 8:15 pm. See you there!

Remember, Parents: if

10th - 12th grade youth are not registered for A-teams, they are finished at 7:30 pm. UMYF Sunday night programs do not begin until 6:00 pm. There is no one to supervise your youth until then. Please do not bring them early unless they have been asked to assist with set-up or are in choir. You are always welcome - if you haven’t visited UMYF yet, please come join the fun! CROP WALK – October 13th Join youth in a walk for World Hunger. A missional opportunity for all ages! Bring your family and walk with others from MUMC to raise $ for those who are hungry. At our Men's Breakfast on Saturday October 5th, Terri Large of Edward Jones Investments will speak on financial topics that husbands and wives need to discuss. This meeting is jointly sponsored with United Methodist Women. Bring your wife or significant other for breakfast that will start at 7:30 am. The program will begin at 8 am and end around 9 am. Our men will host a cookout Wednesday, October 9th at Hoskin's Park. We will meet at the Church at 4:30, depart at 4:45 and serve dinner at 6:00. Contact Bo Bobrowski at 704-408-2160 or if you would like to be a part of building relationships with the men of Hoskin’s Park.

A group of our men will cook and serve dinner at the Charlotte Rescue Mission Thursday, October 31st. Charlotte Rescue Mission helps men caught in the crisis of addiction, poverty and hopelessness through a Christ-centered recovery program. Volunteers are needed as follows: cooks arrive by 3:30; prep crew arrives by 4:15; servers and men for fellowship arrive by 4:45. We will prepare and serve breakfast at the Men's Shelter of Charlotte Sunday, October 13th. The Shelter serves the homeless men of Charlotte by filling the very basic of human needs. Men meet for a Bible Study on Thursday nights at 7:30 pm to discuss topics that are faith based, and the challenges that men face every day. Methodist Men is a growing group of faith-centered men. We spiritually encourage men while serving meals at several local missions, help people who are unable to do their own repair work, lead Bible studies at the County Jail, etc. We build relationships within our group through our weekly Bible studies, monthly breakfasts, fundraisers and an annual retreat.
