Message From The Mayor City Of Gold Coast

The Sanctuary Cove Boat Show is an incredible experience not just for those seeking luxury products but for everyday recreational boaties. That’s what makes it such a success, just ask the 43,000 visitors who attended last year. I applaud Show organisers, Mulpha Events for raising the flag again in 2023.

All aboard for 2023! That’s my message to sponsors, patrons, exhibitors and officials as the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show opens for its 34th edition.

Just recently, I was at the Coomera Marine Precinct opening a new manufacturing firm and it was a real eye opener to see the innovation being shown across so many fields – from manufacturing to logistics, design and warehousing. In every way, this precinct is now a huge engine room of the city’s economy and a flagship for how we dare-to-dream-big on the Gold Coast.

Diversifying our economy is critical as we navigate our future post Covid-19. Today, we are no longer as reliant on tourism and construction as we were a decade ago.

To see our economy broadening through marine, film and television, tertiary education, arts and culture and sport gives us all renewed confidence. With confidence comes investment and with investment comes jobs.

New investment in film, education, the marine industry, sports science and medical research has seen our economy grow from a GRP (Gross Regional Product) of $29.87 billion in 2012, to $39.12 billion today.

Further, it is great to see the joint State-Council superyacht berths at Southport Yacht Club in high demand. I’m confident there will be future expansion of berths for visiting superyachts as we countdown to the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.
