Options

This function reserves the space for future updates. Currently it is used to select all the functions to pre-defined (default) values (see page #12). for this a value of ‘123’ is to be set by setting UP or DOWN keys and then enter is pressed. All the function values are automatically reset to default values. This function is extremely useful when one messes up with the system settings such as differentials, temperature sensor or humidity sensor adjustments. Function # 25: Function # 26:

Thank you for selecting our product ! This unit is a precision climate controller for modern poultry sheds. Equipped with two temperature sensors and an (optional) humidity sensor, it uses six-step fan control, timer based cooling pad control, brooder control and minimum ventilation timer function to achieve good command over poultry shed in-house climate.

Both of these settings are specific to humidity sensor and are used to set-up the sensor to be precisely interfaced with the system. For optimum performance, each and every sensor is marked with its own zero offset and slope values. These values are to be set in appropriate functions #25 and #26 respectively.

To get the most from it, please take your time to go through this manual first.

If new values are not set using the values from connected sensor, system can still display humidity to rather low accuracy making use of default setting in this context (zero offset = 8233 and slope = 3159)

Cool Set-point Differential

This function is used in conjunction with cool set-point to have a better control over cooling pad pump operation. It is discussed in detail in Heat Set-point Function description. Its setting range is 0 - 9.9 degrees Celsius. Cool (Cooling Pad) on time

While cooling pad is running, on or off time can be viewed by pushing down key twice while in home display position. This is already discussed in ‘display modes’ section. Function # 21:

Cooling Pad off time is set in this function, the range being 1 to 999 seconds. This amounts to a maximum of 16 minutes and 39 seconds. Cooling Pad stays off until the time set in this setting is elapsed. If a ‘0’ is set in this function, timer remains off and cooling pad turns on permanently. Temperature sensor 1 Adjustment

Although this system displays temperatures with the best possible precision, one may prefer to match the readings with an analog or digital thermometer in the house. This function serves the purpose by adding or subtracting a value in actual house temperature reading to be displayed. This function has a total adjustment range of -9.9 to +9.9 degrees Celsius. Minus (negative) sign is shown on display while plus (positive) sign is not displayed as a standard. For example if temperature reading shown on system display is 24.3, but it is to be matched with a thermometer reading of 24.7, so a value of 0.4 is to be added in displayed reading. For this, set 0.4 in this function. Conversely, if system shows a reading of 25.9 and reference thermometer reads 25.3, in this case a value of 0.6 is to be subtracted from displayed reading. for this, -0.6 (minus 0.6) is to be set in this function. Function # 23:

Temperature sensor 2 Adjustment

This function may be used to match the reading of brooding area temperature to an existing reference thermometer by adding or subtracting a value in actual brooder area temperature reading to be displayed. For example if temperature reading shown on system display is 24.3, but it is to be matched with a thermometer reading of 24.7, we have to add 0.4 to displayed reading. For this, set 0.4 in this function.

The above mentioned operation assumes that cooling pad on and off times are not set ( set to zero). If cooling pad on (function #20) and off (function #21) time are set to a nonzero value, cooling pad pump works in timer mode, turns on for the preset on time and off for the preset off time. Cooling Pad Pump runs on and off until; 1- House temperature falls to cool set-point minus cool set-point differential. 2- House humidity rises above humidity set-point (function #14). 3- Heat Stress Index rises above 165. Function # 14: Humidity Set-point If the controller is equipped with (optional) Humidity Sensor, this function enables the house humidity and heat stress index to be kept in safe limits. This function has no relay output, instead it turns off cooling pad pump. Setting range of this function is 0 - 99 % R.H. Important Note: As with any sophisticated control system, this controller cannot be guaranteed to perform without incident forever. There are many conditions such as lightning strikes, programming errors, and equipment failure that could result in this controller failing to perform its intended function. You must be aware of this and be willing to take the necessary precautions to prevent financial loss. To protect against loss related to the failure or malfunction of this controller, the following safeguards are required: 1. A manual backup system must be installed. this system must take over in the event of a control system malfunction. 3. A weekly test of the manual backup system must be performed. this test confirms that these systems are functioning properly. 4. A daily check of the control system must be performed. this check confirms that the system is operating properly. 5. Non-functional backup system components must be repaired immediately

Installation: Controller A qualified electrician should install the controller. Mount the controller indoors where the temperature remains between 0 - 40°C. Do not mount the controller in direct sunlight. Place the controller away from motors and relays / contactors. Do not install it in the same room where the birds live since the air tends to be corrosive to electronic circuits. A separate room or control office is a preferred location. Before you drill holes into the enclosure, mark their locations and make sure that you do not drill into circuit boards and cables. Unless absolutely necessary, do not remove the circuit boards. they are static sensitive and should always be handled with appropriate grounding and electrostatic preventive measures.

Humidity Set-point

Function # 15: Fan Set-point Differential This function is used in conjunction with fan set-points to have a better control over fan operation. It is discussed in detail in Fan Set-point Function description. Its setting range is 0 - 9.9 degrees Celsius. Function # 16: Fan on time Fan on time for minimum ventilation timer is set in this function, the range being 1 to 999 seconds. This means fan can be set on for a maximum of 16 minutes and 39 seconds. Fan stays on until the time set in this setting is elapsed. If a ‘0’ is set in this function, timer remains off which makes fan to remain off so long as temperature is below the set-point. While timer is running, on or off time can be viewed by pushing down key once while in home display position. This is already discussed in ‘display modes’ section.

Never connect or disconnect wires while the power is on. This may not only cause damage to the unit but also be fatal to human life. Always touch a grounded surface before working on electronic equipment. Static shocks can destroy sensitive electronic circuits. A good ground for your electrical system and the TEC800 controller is essential. An alternative ground could be a water pipe or a buried copper rod. Electrical conduit is often not grounded. When attaching wires to terminals, strip off about ¼” of insulation. Tighten terminal screws securely, being careful not to over tighten them. Gently tug on the wires to make sure they are secure.

Function # 17: Fan off time Fan off time for minimum ventilation timer is set in this function, the range being 1 to 999 seconds. This means fan can be set off for a maximum of 16 minutes and 39 seconds. Fan stays off until the time set in this setting is elapsed. If a ‘0’ is set in this function, timer remains off which makes fan to remain off so long as temperature is below the set-point.

Circuit Protection

While timer is running, on or off time can be viewed by pushing down key once while in home display position. This is already discussed in ‘display modes’ section.

Motors must have a thermal overload protection device or impedance protection. The overload should auto-reset for any essential equipment.

The controller should be wired to an independent circuit breaker. Ideally each equipment output channel should have its own breaker to insure that tripping will not affect other devices in the ventilation system.

Power Surges TEC800 is protected against normal voltage surges, but heavy inductive surges and lightning induced surges could damage the equipment. We recommend the use of an external surge suppressor in this case.

Setting function #11 to 3 makes fan1, fan2 and fan3 turn on and off sequentially (fan1 on, off, fan2 on, off, fan3 on, off) according to the times set in function #16 (fan on-time) and function #17 (fan off-time). Function #11 Setting = 3 on-time

Fuse Replacement The fuse on the power supply is 500mA 250VAC , and on outputs are 5A 250VAC miniature glass fuses (5x20mm). Please observe the specification when replacing.

Wiring High voltage wires should enter the control enclosure from the bottom so they can be easily connected to the relay terminals. Low voltage sensor wiring should be brought in from side and connected to the input terminal near top right. Make sure there are no frayed wires because the control board may press against the wires when the controller’s cover is fitted in place.

A servo controlled voltage stabilizer should be installed before the unit as local power supply voltage may fluctuate beyond safety limits. Do not tap power from the power supply for other devices. Heat (Brooder) Set-point

This function is used to turn the brooder on when the temperature of the brooding area falls below a set-point. The setting range of this function is 0 -70.0 C Good control is achieved with the inclusion of a differential setting (Function #18) as used in fan set-points. If Heat Set-point is set to 20.0 and Heat Set-point Differential is set to 5.0, brooder turns on when temperature falls to heat set-point minus heat set-point differential (15.0C), and turns off when it rises to heat set-point plus heat set-point differential (25.0C). If a sensor cable runs parallel to power cables, allow a separation of at least 12� (30cm) to avoid interference. Do not run sensor cable through conduit with power wires.

Suspend sensors from the ceiling to ensure free airflow. Sensors should hang close to the birds, but should be out of their reach. Leave enough wire so you can tie up several loops of slack to keep the sensor at the right height.

Cool (Cooling Pad) Set-point

This function is used to turn the cooling pad water pump on when the temperature of the house rises above a set-point (Function #13). The setting range of this function is 0 -70.0 C. As previously discussed, if control is achieved with the inclusion of a differential setting (Function #19). If Cool Set-point is set to 35.0 and Heat Set-point Differential is set to 0.1, cooling pad turns on when temperature rises to cool set-point plus cool set-point differential (35.1), and turns off when it rises to cool set-point minus cool set-point differential (34.9C).

Fan1 to 4 perform another very important function besides turning on and off at given setpoints, that is “Minimum Ventilation Timer�. When Set-point of the any of these fans is below house temperature, this timer function is activated which turns related fans on-off in cyclic mode.

Fans used for minimum ventilation

When there is no longer needed to turn the fans on off at set-points, it is often required to turn the fans periodically just for fresh air in-take. There are maximum of four (4) fans that can be allocated for this function namely fan1, fan2, fan3 and fan4. Fans selected to work in minimum ventilation timer mode operate in a cyclic mode, means if all the our fans are selected fan1 turns on during the on-time and turns off for the period of off-time. Then next fan fan2 takes over the job and turns on for on-time, turns off for off-time. Next is the turn of fan3 to keep on for on-time, remain off for off-time. At last, fan4 carries on to remain on for on time and remain off for off-time. This cycle repeats itself again from fan1. The fans allocated for minimum ventilation timer are shown as blinking indicators. If number of fans allocated for minimum ventilation is less than four, the cycle repeats when it reaches the last fan in the sequence. For example; If fan1 is only used for this function(function #11 is set to 1), it will turn on and off according to the times set in function #16 (fan on-time) and function #17 (fan off-time). Function Description Function # 1 to 6:

Fan Set-Points

First six (6) parameters are Fan Set-points. Set-point is the temperature in degrees Celsius (or Centigrade -older name) at which the fan turns on in order to lower the house temperature. The range of setting is 0 to 70.0 Degrees Cesius.

An adjustable differential setting (Function #15)is introduced to avoid this “chattering” and turn the fan on properly. Now fan turns on when temperature rises to fan set-point plus fan set-point differential (25.1), and turns off when it falls to fan set-point minus fan set-point differential (24.9).

Precisely speaking, there is a differential involved in set-point function. If the fan was set at simply (say) 25.0 degrees Celsius it would turn on when house temperature reaches 25.0 degrees, turn off when it falls just 1/10th of a degree at 24.9 and turn on again when it rises just 1/10th of a degree at 25.0°C !. In this way fan relay would “chatter”, doing no useful job but just turning on-off-on-off around 25.0 °C.

Wiring Diagram MAIN HOUSE TEMPERATURE SENSOR

When SET indicator is on (system in setting mode), function number is shown on left display and its value on right display, press ENTER key. Now SET indicator will start flashing which is an indication that the value can be changed using UP and DOWN keys. After changing the value to desired setting, press ENTER again to exit parameter value editing mode.

Alarm1 indicator starts flashing and buzzer starts beeping when temperature rises above highest setting in the system, and alarm relay is turned on.If temperature now falls below highest setting, alarm1 indicator, buzzer and alarm relay are turned off. Similarly alarm2 indicator starts flashing, buzzer is set beeping when temperature falls below lowest setting in the system and alarm relay is turned on. If temperature now rises above lowest setting, alarm2 indicator and alarm relay are turned off. Press UP Key

To reset the alarm, press UP key during alarm condition, alarm relay is turned off, but related alarm indicator continues to flash until alarm condition is cleared (temperature normalized).
