T H E LO U V E R O R I E N TAT I O N D E T E R M I N E S WHETHER THE PROFILES ARE INSTALLED VERTICALLY OR HORIZONTALLY. THE HORIZONTAL LOUVERS REQUIRE VERTICAL PROFILES AND VICE VERSA.

CHECKER BOX OFFICE COMPLEX IS DESIGNED BY ARSH DESIGN GROUP. THE ARCHITECT INTEDED FOR THE FACADE TO BECOME AN ACTIVATED OR ANIMATED SURFACE UTILISES T H E F I X E D LO U V E R FA C A D E SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM ALLOWS FOR A D E Q U AT E L I G H T I N G T O G O THROUGH WHILE NOT LETTING TO MUCH OF IT INTO THE BUILDING IN ORDER TO PREVENT MINIMIZE HEAT. T H I S T Y P E O F FA C A D E A L S O ALLOWS PASSIVE VENTILATION TO REDUCE THE USE OF ENERGY.

TIMBER BEING THE PRIMARY M AT E R I A L O F T H E LO U V E R SYSTEM, IT IS A MATERIAL THAT IS EASY TO INSTALL AND HAS A NATURAL AESTHETIC VALUE, REQUIRING NO COLOUR PAINTJOB.

CONNECTION DETAIL

THE FIXED TIMBER LOUVER SYSTEM IS THE ANSWER FOR THIS ISSUE AS IT IS ABLE TO SHADE THE INTERIOR SPACES FROM DIRECT SUNLIGHT WHILE ALLOWING WIND TO GO THROUGH TO COOL DOWN THE INTERIOR SPACES.

THE PERFORATED BRICK WALL FACADE IS CONSTRUCTED BY MODIFYING THE COMMON FLEMISH BOND COURSE. BY REMOVING THE HEADER SECTION OF THE COURSE, THE FACADE ACHIEVES THE PERFORATIONS, HENCE BEING ABLE TO PRODUCE THE BENEFITS THAT COMES WITH IT.

IT ALLOWS ADEQUATE VENTILATION AS WELL AS NATURAL LIGHTING TO PENETRATE INTO THE LIBRARY, CREATING AN ATMOSPHERE. THE POROUS NATURE OF THE FACADE ALLOWS FOR IT TO MAINTAIN THE VISUAL CONNECTIONS FROM THE INTERIOR SPACES TO THE EXTERIOR.

TERIMITARY HOUSE IS A BUILDING THAT UTILISES LOCAL INDIGENOUS MATERIALS THAT IS BOTH MODERN IN FORM WHILE ALSO STAYING TRUE TO ITS LOCAL ORIGIN. BEING SITUATED IN AN AREA WHERE EXTREME CLIMATES OFTEN OCCUR, IT NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO ACCOMODATE FOR DIFFERENT SCENARIOS. GLAZING IS USED BEYOND THE PERFORATED WALLS AS A FORM OF CLIMATE CONTROL SHOULD THE LIKES OF RAIN WERE TO OCCUR, MAKING IT A DOUBLE FACADE T H AT P R OV I D E S A D E G R E E O F PRIVACY TO THE INTERIOR SPACES WHILE ALSO ALLOWING ENOUGH LIGHT AND VENTILATION TO COME THROUGH.

BAKED BRICKS ARE THE MAIN MATERIALS AS IT ALLOWS THE USAGE OF VARIOUS FORM OF BRICKS, WITH EACH CREATING A UNIQUE ATMOSHPHERE DESPITE THESE FORMS USING THE SAME CONSTRUCTION METHOD.

ASAKUSA VISITOR CENTRE’S SKYLIGHT ALLOWS A DEGREE OF SUNLIGHT TO PENETRATE THROUGH THE TOP AND CREATES A CALMING ATMOSHPERE.

THE ROOFS OF THE ASAKUSA VISITOR CENTRE DIVIDES THE STRUCTURE INTO 8 ONE-STORIED HOUSES AS WELL AS DEFINING THE FUNCTION OF EACH FLOOR. AS ANGLES OF THE ROOFS INCLINE TOWARDS KAMINARIMON AND THE HEIGHTS FROM THE GROUND VARY FROM FLOOR TO F LO O R , E A C H F LO O R R E L AT E S DIFFERENTLY TO THE OUTSIDE, HENCE GIVING A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE TO EACH SPACE. THE VISITOR CENTRE UTILISES THE STEEL ROOF FRAMING SYSTEM.

GALVALUME STEEL SHEET MAKES FOR AN EXTREMELY LIGHT, STRONG AND WATERPROOF. THE STEEL ROOFING SHEETS ARE USUALLY GALVANIZED OR COATED WITH LAYERS TO PREVENT CORROSION.

MODULAR SKYLIGHT STEEL BEAM RESISTS SHEAR FORCES, WHILE THE FLANGES RESIST MOST OF THE BENDING MOMENT EXPERIENCED BY THE BEAM. IT IS VERY EFFICIENT TO CARRY BOTH SHEAR AND BENDING LOADS.

H O R I Z O N TA L B R A C I N G SYSTEM IS REQUIRED AT THE TOP LEVEL IN ORDER TO TRANSFER HORIZONTAL LOADS TO THE PLANES OF VERTICAL BRACING THAT PROVIDE RESISTANCE TO THE HORIZONTAL FORCES.

WOODWOOL CEMENT BOARDS ARE USED FOR THE INTEROR. IT HAS GOOD T H E R M A L I N S U L AT I O N , EXCELLENT H E AT BUFFERING CAPACITY AND FIRE RESISTANT, AMONG OTHER BENEFITS.


PRECEDENT STUDies- structural system tinman house CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE STEEL BEAMS AND COLUMNS SHOULD BE CAREFULLY UNLOADED AND EXAMINED FOR DEFECTS AND SORTED. BEFORE INSTALLATION, GRAIN RAISING IS PERFORMED ON UPPER SURFACE OF THE FOUNDATION TO AVOID FLASKING OFF OF GROUT MATERIALS FROM THE FOUNDATION. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY ALIGNMENT AND LEVELING TO MAKE SURE THE TOWER IS STANDING AT A STRAIGHT AND MEASURED LEVEL. THE FINAL TIGHTENING SHOULD BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING TO OBTAIN THE STANDARD BOLT TENSILE STRENGTH. AFTER COMPLETING THE FASTENING, VERIFY THE PSOITION OF THE MARKING AND AS SHOWN BY CROSS PAINTED AT THE NUT.

IT ALSO REQUIRES LESS LABOUR TO CONSTRUCT SINCE IT IS NOT A HIGH BUDGET PROJECT. ITS HIGHER QUALITY AND DURABILITY ALSO ALLOWS IT TO HAVE A LONG LASTING LIFETIME AS WELL AS EFFICIENTLY MINIMIZING THE NEED FOR MAINTENANCE.

S I T U AT E D I N T H E H E A R T O F BANGKOK, WHERE LIMITED LAND USE IS A FACTOR TO CONSIDER, TINMAN HOUSE IS A 5-STOREY BUILDING THAT IS DESIGNED TO ACHIEVE A SPACEEFFICIENT IDEA UN DER THE 6-METRE SPAN OF STRUCTURAL STEEL. THE NAME OF THE HOUSE WAS INSPIRED FROM THE OWNER’S FAVOURITE CHARACTER FROM ‘THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ’ CHARACTER, A T I N M A N T H AT R E P R E S E N T S A HUMBLE AND HONEST HEART.

CARBON STEEL IS THE CORE M AT E R I A L U S E D F O R T H E STRUCTURAL SYSTEM. THIS STEEL IN PARTICULAR HAS BETTER STRENGTH AND WELDABILITY FOR USE IN CONSTRUCTION.
