welcome

Here in the Mudgee region, we’ve always believed in enjoying the best things in life – and we create the best things right here in and on our very own soil. Each year, we like to invite you to help us celebrate our achievements during the annual wine and food festival – our way of showing the world that we consistently produce the best of the best. 2016 will be the festival’s 38th year – which makes it one of the longest running celebrations of its kind. There’s no sign of slowing down either! We’re always adding more events and in recent years it’s become about more than wine and food - we’ve evolved to include the local beer, spirits, art and musical talents our region possesses. This year our festival runs from Friday September 9th through to Monday October 3rd and as usual includes popular events such as Go Grazing, a truly unique food and wine matching event not to be missed, Go Tasting – a chance to discover the winners of the Mudgee Wine Show, and Flavours of Mudgee – a huge street festival bringing Mudgee’s wine and food into the heart of town.

This year we’re also including some fun evenings dedicated to learning about wine – nothing formal, just a great way to learn a little bit or a little bit more about wines around the region. The region certainly puts on a show each year and individual wineries, eateries, accommodation providers and local businesses will provide more events and special offers to entice you to stay just that little bit longer. As always, we look forward to providing you with an unforgettable wine and food experience.

Ted Cox

President Mudgee Wine Association

reward your

Mudgee’s viticultural history stretches back to 1858, when the first plantings were made at Craigmoor Winery & Vineyards (now Robert Oatley Vineyards). Mudgee is now one of the top wine producing regions in NSW and has the distinct advantage of having a deep respect for traditional winemaking, whilst ensuring there’s still room for creativity, discovery and innovation. In Mudgee you will find firm favourites like Chardonnay, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon but you’ll also discover the diversity in the region through varieties like Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional and Zinfandel, among others. We’re even becoming known for having some of Australia’s finest Italian varietals like Sangiovese and Barbera. We always encourage visitors to try something new, explore the wonders of wine and ‘reward your palate’.

While you’re here On any given day there are an array of special offers and events taking place centred around wine or food – and quite often both! When you visit during the festival, we ask that you assist our often busy cellar door staff by purchasing a festival tasting glass and carrying it with you to each of your wine stops. You can rinse your glasses at each winery. This allows us to serve you in a timely manner, is environmentally friendly and provides you a great souvenir of your visit. These glasses are available at cellar doors for $6 each.

We also encourage you to try our ‘Best of the Best’ collaborative wine in Mudgee Gold. Mudgee Gold is a unique expression of the Mudgee wine region and represents the area’s finest viticultural and winemaking skills. Selections of gold medal winning Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Mudgee Wine Show are expertly blended to create an exclusive, limited edition wine. Purchase the current 2013 vintage from the following places: High Valley Wine and Cheese, Robert Stein Winery and Pipeclay Pumphouse.

The Mudgee Farmers Markets are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month and they’re always on – come rain, hail or shine. Find us in the hall if it is wet.

This is the ultimate market where Mudgee Fine Foods combine forces with Mudgee Arts to showcase the best of ‘made in Mudgee’. With over 60 stalls, Olive oil producers, Boutique wine makers, sourdough bread bakers, and jam makers rub shoulders with print makers, ceramic artists, jewellers, and textile artists.

Grab a bacon and egg roll, team it with a freshly brewed coffee, and listen to local musicians play as you browse the great range of stalls. Chat to our specialist food producers before selecting some great produce to take home. All products sold have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stallholders themselves.

Wander the paths and browse the stalls while you enjoy the live music, freshly brewed coffee, and loads of food options – from egg and bacon rolls to Nepalese Momos.

FARM WALKS

THE STABLES GALLERY

If you’ve ever wondered exactly what ‘free range’ means, wanted to get in touch with the seasons, or show your children exactly where their food comes from, Mudgee Fine Foods have come up with a great idea to get people back to grass roots level.

Immerse yourself in culture at this gallery with its ever changing display of art

On the Sunday morning that follows our third Saturday Farmers Markets, join us on our guided farm walks, where you can get your hands dirty on a working farm. From our great range of producers, two farms are chosen each month. Depending on the season, you may get to see olive oil production, locally grown vegetables, vineyards, a fig orchard, or a working winery. Farm walk participants get to meet the farmer and hear how passionate they are about what they produce. Check out our Farm Walks Calendar on Mudgee Fine Foods website to see which farms will be participating when you are visiting. surrounding

regions Gulgong

Step back in time as you visit one of the region’s most historically significant areas. Gulgong was a 19th century gold rush town and home to Australia’s famous poet, Henry Lawson. Much of the town remains unchanged from the gold rush era, allowing a rare insight into the past. Visit the Pioneer Museum or the Henry Lawson Centre, take a self-guided heritage walk or call in to the Prince of Wales theatre – the oldest continually operating opera house in Australia.

Rylstone & Kandos The Rylstone and Kandos area is the gateway to some fantastic natural attractions such as Wollemi National Park and Dunn’s Swamp. These heritage villages offer a glimpse into the past with their historical buildings and are a great base for bushwalking, bird-watching, water activities and scenic drives.
