Research Experience

Di-N-Heterocyclic Carbenes as Bridges in Mixed-Metal Complexes

Expected Graduation Summer 2011

Graduated Spring 2006

Graduate Work

• Initiated study on heterodinuclear (containing two different metals) di-carbene-bridged complexes displaying novel M-M’ bridging modes • Developed routes to a series of carbene-anchored/pendent-imidazolium complexes of Rh and Pd • Generated bridging di-NHC complexes via deprotonation of the pendent imidazolium group in the presence of another metal species • Currently testing di-NHC-bridged mixed-metal complexes (notably of Pd/Rh) for their catalytic activity in tandem catalysis

Synthesis of Boron-Containing Zwitterionic Metal Complexes

Undergraduate Work

• Investigated the synthesis of several different boron-containing metal complexes • Reacted various metal acetylacetonate [M(acac)x ] compounds with catecholborane, resulting in rare binding modes and hapticities between metal complexes and six-membered rings • Initiated hydroboration catalytic studies on these complexes

Synthesis of Novel Amine-Containing Compounds • • • •

Undergraduate Work

Investigated the synthesis and biological activity of several organic drug targets Developed methodology for a series of bio-active Schiff bases derived from fluoroanilines Established routes to a series of novel boron-containing dihydropyrimidinones Analyzed complexes for their potential as anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-cancer agents
