Sawmill Outlet fills the gaps in Delta lumber industry By Kami Collins Mountain Valley News staff

Eric and Linda Sorenson have owned Delta Timber Company, a lumber wholesaler in Delta, since 1990. When property adjacent to the sawmill became available, they purchased that with the intention of opening a retail lumber company. “People were coming in constantly, wanting to buy retail,” Linda said. They opened the Sawmill Outlet at 595 Hwy. 92 in October 2009. They are the only lumber retailer in Delta. “The community loves the availability of rough cut lumber,” Linda said, who acts as president of the Outlet

while her husband runs the sawmill. The Sawmill Outlet offers aspen tongue-andgroove interior paneling, surfaced pine and spruce boards, all produced at the sawmill. The Sorensons offer custom cutting on-site of rough lumber in any dimension, from smaller boards for shelving or trim to larger pieces used for ranch work or construction. Sawer and yard foreman Justin Crandall has the capability to craft beams up to 12”x12” and bigger. The Sawmill Outlet also offers products you can’t get at a typical lumberyard. Linda has cut and split firewood available, as well as

beautiful wood gift items created by local craters, including pieces from Earl Marsh, Judy Edwards, Everett Stevens, Len Johnson and Doug and Judy Clawson. Everything from lamps to doll beds to cutting boards to wine racks to picture frames can be seen in the showroom. The Black Canyon Wood Carvers Guild meets weekly at the Sawmill Outlet to carve. Linda said the group is fascinating to watch and their results are beautiful. The Sawmill Outlet also offers wood mulch for landscaping, mud protection, playground cover or animal bedding. Sawdust is available too, as is bark for land-

scaping. “But the primary product we offer is friendly and prompt service,” Linda said. That, and the opportunity to save gas and support the local economy, are why the Sorensons encourage shoppers driving out of town for their lumber needs to check out the Outlet first. Having the lumber produced just across the driveway allows

the Sorensons to keep their prices low, too. The Sorensons’ daughter, Jessie French, joins the crew as manager. Find the Outlet on the web at or by phone at 874-WOOD (9663). Linda always welcomes visitors, too. She is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. – noon.
