2012 Chevrolet Colorado The Colorado is Chevrolet’s entrant in the compact pickup truck segment, and it’s related to the GMC Canyon. Available in a choice of three cab styles with seating for up to six people, the Colorado offers four-cylinder, five-cylinder or V-8 power. For businesses and contractors looking for a customized, small work truck, the Colorado can be ordered in a chassis cab configuration that can be upfitted with panel van-style or “midbox” storage solutions. Competitors include the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma. New for 2012 The Colorado receives minor changes for 2012 including revised rear head restraints. On 2LT models, front bucket seats replace a split-bench seat. An automatic locking rear differential is included on 2LT, 3LT and four-wheel-drive 1LT models. Exterior When the Colorado debuted for 2004, it carried over the front-end styling from that generation’s Chevy Silverado, including the familiar power bar grille and angular “bat wing” headlamps. It looked great on the Colorado then, but now the Silverado has been restyled, and the Colorado is looking a little long in the tooth. The Colorado has a little more muscle in its silhouette than some other compact trucks, which is great in four-wheel drive and/or Z71 trims. Lowered with the ZQ8 suspension, though, the Colorado may have a little more meat than some would like. Exterior features include: • Bold wheel flares on Z71 models • Z71 suspension offers higher stance • Standard 16-inch wheels; 17- and 18-inch wheels available Interior Though covered in plastic, the Colorado’s interior features an effective gauge layout and easy-to-reach audio and climate controls. There are some nice chrome accents to spice up the cabin, but this is mostly a utility-friendly cab with adequate storage and reasonably spacious surroundings for a compact pickup. The seats are wide and comfortable, and the crew cab offers decent headroom and legroom for people of most heights. The extended cab’s second row is for children only. Interior features include: • Bluetooth connectivity • Available leather upholstery • Available sliding rear window Under the Hood Mechanical features include: • 185-horsepower, 2.9-liter inline-four-cylinder with 190 pounds-feet of torque • 242-hp, 3.7-liter inline-five-cylinder with 242 pounds-feet of torque • 300-hp, 5.3-liter V-8 with 320 pounds-feet of torque • Standard five-speed manual transmission; four-speed automatic optional • Engines run on regular gas Safety Side curtain airbags, an electronic stability system and traction control are standard. Additional safety features include: • Antilock brakes • Crash sensor sends GPS signal

2012 Ford Super Duty The F-Series Super Duty is Ford’s line of heavy-duty pickup trucks, which are available in a variety of configurations and three model series: F-250, F-350 and F-450. The truck can carry as many as six people when properly configured, and competitors include 2500 and 3500 models in the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra and Ram truck lines. Two engines are available: a 6.7-liter turbo-diesel V-8 and a 6.2-liter gas V-8. Both engines team with a heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission. New for 2012 A strengthened frame and trailer hitch provides 17,500 pounds of conventional towing capacity when properly equipped. Ford also offers a CNG/LPG prep package for gas-engine trucks, and a gooseneck hitch is available for the 6.75-foot cargo box. Exterior A 2011 restyling brought a “power dome” hood and a bolder grille stamped with a Super Duty logo and an oversized Ford oval badge. Buyers have the choice of an extended cab (Super Cab) with a 6.75- or 8-foot box and a crew cab with four conventional doors and a 6.75- or 8-foot box. Dual-rear-wheel models are available with the 8-foot box. Exterior features include: • Standard trailer hitch receiver • Standard 17-inch wheels; 18- and 20-inch rims available • Optional PowerScope towing mirrors • Optional power moonroof • Optional tubular side steps or running boards • Optional spray-in bedliner Interior The Super Duty borrows seats from the F-150, and offers a three-place front bench seat or front bucket seats. The bench seat is split 40/20/40, and a lockable under-seat center storage compartment is optional. A wide center console is available on models with front buckets and includes a bin large enough to hold a laptop computer. On the Lariat, heated and cooled front seats with a memory feature for the power driver’s seat are optional. Crew cab models have a threeplace rear bench seat that flips up to reveal a flat cargo floor. An available 4.2-inch LCD screen in the instrument cluster shows fuel economy information and monitors off-road and towing details. Interior features include: • Standard air conditioning • Standard tilt/telescoping steering wheel • Optional navigation system with SiriusXM Travel Link • Optional power-adjustable pedals • Optional Sync system Under the Hood The standard 6.2-liter gas V-8 is a single-overhead-camshaft engine that runs on regular gas or E85 ethanol. It produces 385 horsepower and 405 pounds-feet of torque. The available Power Stroke 6.7-liter turbo-diesel V-8 produces 400 hp and a massive 800 pounds-feet of torque at 1,600 rpm, making it the logical choice for serious towing and hauling. The Power Stroke V-8 burns regular diesel fuel or a blend of up to 20 percent biodiesel. Both engines work with a standard six-speed automatic transmission that incorporates Ford’s SelectShift technology, which enables driver-initiated shifts. Mechanical features include: • Rear- or four-wheel drive • Standard electronic locking rear differential Safety Safety features on the Super Duty include: • Standard stability system with Roll Stability Control • Standard side curtain airbags • Standard front-seat side-impact airbags • Standard all-disc antilock brakes • Optional rear parking sensors • Optional backup camera

2011 Dodge Ram 2500 Last year, Chrysler overhauled the Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickups with new exteriors and interiors. Almost everything above the heavy-duty Ram’s frame was freshened, including its aerodynamic exterior and all-new interior, which is shared with the Ram 1500. The front axle and suspension have been strengthened to accommodate a wider range of snowplow prep packages for winter work. New hydraulic body mounts under the cabin are said to smooth out freeway hop. A new four-door crew cab with bigger back doors and more rear passenger space replaces the previous, smaller four-door Quad Cab. A new 8-foot cargo box option (a 6-foot-4-inch bed is standard) should make the crew cab Ram HD an attractive choice for fifth-wheel towing. The 6.7-liter Cummins six-cylinder diesel and Hemi V-8 powertrains remain unchanged, as does the Hemi-powered Power Wagon off-road version of the Ram HD. It’s the only Ram HD with a 4.56 rear axle and locking front and rear differentials. New for 2011 The Ram Outdoorsman replaces last year’s TRX model with a package aimed at avid hunters, campers and fishermen. An optional fishing rod and rifle rack can be added at Ram dealers for trucks equipped with the optional RamBox cargo box side storage. It also includes trailer-towing upgrades, interior and exterior convenience, lighting enhancements, all-terrain tires and underbody protection. The Laramie Longhorn model is new and the most luxurious Ram truck yet. It’s aimed at Ford’s King Ranch and GMC’s Denali trims, with a leather interior that includes cowboy boot-style patterns, burled walnut trim and all-weather rubber mats with removable Berber inserts. The Laramie Longhorn also includes a unique two-tone paint job. Power folding mirrors are a new option, and Hunter Green Pearl, Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl and Sagebrush Green (Laramie Longhorn only) have been added as new exterior colors. Exterior Ram heavy-duty pickups share headlamps and fenders with the 1500, but the grille is bigger to keep the engine cool while towing big trailers, and the hood is different to make room for the Cummins diesel. The front bumper has aggressive stamping. The single-piece chrome bumper wraps around the front fenders to give it a modern look and improved aerodynamics to help gas mileage. The plastic snap-on rear fenders on previous-generation Ram HDs with dual rear wheels have been replaced with sculpted fenders stamped into the sides of the cargo box. They look clean and modern, but if they’re dinged or damaged, they’ll require bodywork instead of replacements. The side mirrors can be pivoted horizontally or vertically, depending on trailer size, and the mirrors are larger and convex to improve visibility. Turn signals are integrated. Interior The inside features all the high-quality materials and ergonomic and electronic options the Ram 1500 has, and it adds a new integrated trailer brake controller like Ford and GM offer in their heavy-duty pickups. The brake controller eliminates the need for an aftermarket kit to control a trailer’s electric brakes for improved towing control. Buyers who tow long distances will appreciate the Ram’s seating improvements, which include better ergonomics and comfort. The seats can be equipped with heat and ventilation for the driver and front passenger. Rear-seat heating is also optional, as is a heated steering wheel. The new Laramie Longhorn is ultra-luxurious. It has full leather seating with laser-etched bolsters, and the front seatbacks have metal buckles (bearing the Ram logo) with magnetic clasps, like a mailbag. An exclusive instrument cluster has the appearance of hand-wrought jewelry with six chrome gauge rings set against a painted taupe silver background and a tooled-metal Laramie Longhorn edition badge. The carpet is protected by specially designed all-weather rubber mats with polished metal badging and removable carpet inserts. The Laramie Longhorn is equipped with all of the standard equipment found on the top-level Ram Laramie plus navigational radio, remote start, backup camera, front ventilated seats and rear heated seats.
