Florence hosts the event showcasing the universe of perfume from 8th to 10th September 2017
PITTI FRAGRANZE the celebration of International Artistic Perfumery For its fifteenth edition, Pitti Fragranze welcomes over 270 brands from all over the world and hosts a series of talk-events and projects to take stock of the trends in todayâ€™s olfactory culture. The focus this year is on the new frontiers of sustainability and on exotic spices, all in a completed revamped layout. Stazione Leopolda in Flirence is the venue for the event bringing the best global artistic perfumery proposals to Florence.
This unique platform-observatory displays the most exclusive essences, the latest ideas in beauty and well-being , as well as lines of cosmetics and sophisticated accessories, both by established brands and by new talents on the international artistic perfumery scene. The theme this year is Blooming Newforms, which presents a new dimension of the world of fragrances made up of digitally inspired visual shapes, devised for contemporary social network platforms and the public of digital natives, that transform into the things we see living and moving around on the screens of our devices.

This theme is visually played out by the shapes created for Fragranze by the graphic designer Diego Soprana and staged in the layouts by the architect Alessandro Moradei. In addition to the main section of Pitti Fragranze, there are two sections to meet the increasingly diversified demands of international buyers: Spring, the area for new names, for fragrance lines making their debuts before international audiences and the new firms on the market and Charms, the section that showcases a sophisticated selection of accessories
(jewellery, scarves, home and personal accessories). The focus on Sustainability has the participation of an exceptional guest, the expert innovator Fabrice Leclerc, in a talk with special guests from the fragrance and beauty sectors. At the centre of his intervention is the topic of the European Revolution, the movement towards a model of thought and production based on European culture, heading towards a contemporary Renaissance that opens the way for new models and practices of post-sustainability.
Raw is back at Pitti Fragranze, the format that showcases the raw materials used in perfume-making. Mane, the French company that is a world leader in the creation of fragrances, run by the Mane family for 145 years, curates this section which takes us on an enthralling itinerary, starting from the origins and history of spices, to discover the extraordinary olfactory wealth of these raw materials. Micaela Giamberti, director of the Fragrance division of Mane Italy, will be in charge of the presentation, together with a team of experts from Mane.

Fragrance is that mysterious gift that nature has given us: it can create emotions and feelings as no other element succeeds in doing. It can instantly recall to mind moments of the past or inebriate us by releasing passions and feelings never experienced before. For this new collection, Masterpiece by S.I.R.P.E.A. of Milan has asked the worldâ€™s nest perfumers to make their best olfactory creation, giving them free rein to express all their creativity. Each one was allowed to conceive their masterpiece as the maximum expression of their art of perfume-making.
This is how the first six Masterpieces of a larger collection, which will grow and expand over the years, were conceived, embodying the elite of creativity in the world of perfume. First Breath by Leslie Girard pays tribute to the first emotion that a living being experiences, elevated in a creation inspired by love for life. The divine spark is expressed in the fresh and vital notes of bergamot, lime, grapefruit and mandarin, which are slowly transformed into the hot and soft notes of body warmth with a bouquet of white flowers, basil and thyme before settling into the base notes of vetiver, patchouli and musk.
Serge de Olivera has created the second masterpiece: Remember Me, an essence that will make you love, seek, remember and never forget. It is a warm gourmand embrace, evident from the top notes of bergamot, lavender, almond and black cherry and then the heart of liquorice, chocolate and heliotrope flower. Vanilla in the base notes, with sandalwood and musk soften the embrace. Nirvana, the paradise that everyone aspires to, is the creation of Michele Saramito.
Top notes of mandarin, green leaves, Mirabelle and pink pepper, a heart of jasmine, ylang yang, tuberose, rose and orange blossom, and a base of sandalwood, amber, vanilla and musk create an intense floral fragrance…. nirvana! My Way, created by Enrico Scartezzini, is a unique fragrance, just as the person who wears it has to be noticed immediately and leads a dynamic and active life. Bold woody notes and pungent
essences contrast simultaneously with fresh, soft and musky notes. The debut of mandarin, green apple and cardamom introduces the soft and aromatic heart of orange blossom, lavender and nutmeg, while the base notes of tonka bean, amber and leather add persistence and sensuality. Shadow of Your Smile is a mysterious essence by Dario Volpones. Sparkling and unpredictable, it opens with bergamot, lemon and orange, developing
a floral heart of neroli, jasmine and geranium leaves and a base of cedar wood and musk. Vincent Ricord has created Stairway to Heaven, a citrus and spicy fragrance with top notes of lemon, bergamot, mandarin and incense. The heart is enchanted and ethereal with petit grain, jasmine, cardamom and black pepper. while the base notes of cedar wood, tonka bean, white musk and vanilla add softness and persistence.

Onyrico maison of dreams and culture There’s a constant desire to make something at Niche and Co., which is why there’s always a pile of projects waiting to be completed. They are Emilia Armida Chinigò and Giorgio Biella, a fragrance designer and a successful entrepreneur, who are both enthusiastic about the Swiss house at the top of the international market in niche perfumes. And the results are not what you’d expect. At Pitti Fragranze in Florence, they presented the eight fragrances of Onyrico, a brand launched in 2015, also in a home version. An absolute novelty with a great deal of promise. An exclusive way of conveying a unique ambience inspired by the world of art, culture and Italian history. Onyrico is a new blend of novelty. Let’s talk a little about the collection of candles presented at Pitti. These were the home versions of a line of fragrances, which reflect the perfumes. A high quality selection, which is underlined by everything associated with it - not just the contents of these creations, but their packaging too. The 350 gramme candles are cast in 100% natural soybean wax, the only wax that is fully biodegradable and devoid of any toxic or polluting substances. The raw materials are all cultivated in Europe, certified and highly sought after. This quality guarantees optimum yields and utilisation. The Onyrico candles, in fact, burn completely without leaving a ring of wax. They come in an elegant marble casing, in the material that serves as the brand’s own distinct signature green onyx. The cup inside is made from glass and is refillable. An eco-friendly approach is, moreover, demonstrated in all of the ads and press releases for Onyrico, which are always printed on paper made from pure virgin cellulose.
For those who prefer them, there are really attractive diffusers. There are eight bamboo stick diffusers, for 250 ml of fragrance. The packaging is an absolute ‘must have’. It was his intention to transfer into essences the olfactory memory of a lifetime, made up of travel and intense emotions. From London, Paris and Milan to Kenya, Marrakech and Cairo, from Venice to Rio de Janeiro, his impressions of these legendary places became exclusive fragrances. The family tradition is carried on by his son Brunello who with his wife Sonia, continue to create truly Italian fragrances of quality. Without being categorized as “niche” or “commercial”, Acampora is simply a beautiful Italian story of fragrance.

The latest offering from Bruno Acampora Profumi is the collection of ‘7 Rules’ as Extraits de Parfum, previously available only as Pure Essences, these unique creations rewrite the classics in a new, exclusive, contemporary and vibrant way. Collie is a refined and modern fragrance. The hesperide notes of lemon and bergamot give an immediate freshness, an enveloping an elegant trail of jasmine and petit grain. Amber makes the cologne luxurious and sophisticated while tonka bean sweetens the fresh and sparkling notes. In Vanyl, named after vanilla but also the vinyl of old LPs, the sweetness of vanilla pods is mad soft and ambery by a skilful use of the resinous notes of myrrh. An aromatic and spicy opening, with notes of angelica and accords of pink pepper leads to a floral heart, underscored by the powdery and precious touches of iris. An ambery and slightly woody vanilla, as warm and soft as velvet, enveloping, sensual and singular, with little of its usual gourmand connotations.
Egoi is named after a Basque divinity associated with the south wind. Patchouli leaves evoke the great classics of perfumery. Cedar wood softens the initial citrus accord, for a harmonious symphony of notes, from fresh ones to a soft and warm heart. Some floral touches give elegance and luminosity to the patchouli, making the fragrance even more sophisticated and sensual. In Vert, the warm touches of cedar wood soften the masculine notes of vetiver, so that the fragrance can also be appreciated by women. The vetiver fades away and is diluted in the drydown with the help of noble musks, prolonging the warm and aromatic effect. The spicy accords of pepper, cardamom and nutmeg give a unique character to this woody fragrance, helped by the resinous, aromatic and spicy touch of elemi. It is a very round vetiver, with an original start that is developed in a classic of perfumery. Sandan evokes warm sandalwood, made fresh and citrusy by neroli. An opening with the spicy accords of pink pepper develops harmoniously with the floral and woody heart.
The notes of bitter orange blossom gradually fade out in the soft and balsamic sandalwood. Ambergris and noble musks make the base precious in this enveloping and sensual fragrance. Où has toning notes of cystus, citrus and saffron which precede the thick white smoke from the brown and burning slivers of precious wood. The heart of cedar and patchouli leads to reassuring warm and enveloping atmospheres made of sandalwood, amber and musk. Courser is an elegant leather fragrance, characterized by floral accords and powdery violet. Cedar, together with the warm and tobacco touches of mate makes the masculine character of leather softer and more harmonious. This fragrance has a strong, sophisticated and elegant personality, making it very up to date.

Oud Stars is a line dedicated entirely to the ancient art of perfumery developed in the Arab world, the pure distillate of oud at the centre of every creation in the collection, modulating precious ingredients and contemporary creativity. The perfumes are named as a tribute to the epic travels of the celebrated 14th century Arab traveller, scholar and explorer, Ibn Battuta. The new additions to this line are Alexandria II, Ceylon and Malesia. The Shooting Stars collection is inspired by the greatest shower of meteorites ever recorded in modern times, in February 1947 in Siberia. Each fragrance comes in a wooden box accompanied by a certified fragment of meteorite and the crystal bottle recalls the light of a special night when the sky was lit up by a multitude of moving stars. The new Oud Stars Alexandria II is the construction of a dream. The top notes of apple, cinnamon, rose and lavender set the scene for a heart of cedar wood, lily of the valley and rose. The base notes of amber, sandalwood, musk, vanilla and oud steam add the passion that goes through a whole city, and an indelible olfactory memory in the path of those who wear it. Ceylon, the â€œtear of Indiaâ€?, the island that has inspired the second new Oud Stars fragrance. It opens with honey, Calabrian bergamot and Indian sambac jasmine. Malesia, which had its preview presentation at Selfridges in London, is the exotic echo of virgin forests. The gentle top note of lily of the valley reveals the intense heart of oil of gurjum and amber, while the base notes of oud, vanilla, tonka bean, tolum, labdanum and musk create a balanced and scintillating drydown.
All the bottles and stoppers of the Xerjoff fragrances have a single design, like a visual common thread running through all six collections of the brand founded by Sergio Momo about ten years ago with the aim of combining ancient manufacturing skills, rare and precious ingredients and a contemporary artistic sensitivity.

TFWA ASIA PACIFIC EXHIBITION & CONFERENCE The Singapore show recorded rises across all the key parameters, making it a huge success
The 22nd TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition and Conference was held in Singapore from 7 to 11 May 2017 and recorded important increases in visitors and exhibitors. The total number of visitors was 3,087, an increase of 6% compared to last yearâ€™s 2,905 and a 19.1% increase from the 2015 figure of 2,581. These figures included representatives from 1,220 companies, a 3% increase compared to last year and a 16.9% increase from the 2015 figure. There were 1,273 key buyers at this yearâ€™s event, an increase of 18% with respect to 2016 and 29.1% from 2015. The surface area occupied by the exhibition also increased this year: 10,254 square meters, a 4% compared to 2016. The total number of exhibitors was 316 compared to 310 last year, with 76 companies exhibiting
in Singapore for the first time. Newcomers included internationally prestigious names and up-andcoming brands including Giorgio Armani, Guerlain and be Relax. The TFWA One2One meeting service arranged 385 meetings and those registered included 41 airports, 44 airlines and inflight sales operators and 11 cruise and ferry companies.
Attendance was also excellent at the conference and workshop, with 1,440 delegates (a rise of 4% compared to last year) hearing from a range of experts from duty free and travel retail and beyond. A friendly atmosphere pervaded the show thanks to the elegant Welcome Cocktail at the iconic Raffles Hotel in Singapore, with 989 guests, up from last years’ 851. The Chill Out Party at the Mandarin
Oriental Hotel was attended by 555 guests and 746 spent an enjoyable evening at the Singapore Swing Party at Universal Studios, Sentosa Island. In the words of Erik Juul-Mortensem TFWA President, the record figures across all the key parameters meant that “If ever we needed it, the event was confirmation of the huge importance of this region to the great industry that is duty free and travel retail.”

Speakers are Lewis Allen, director of environments at Portland Design, Adil Raïhani of The Blueprint Partnership and Stéphanie Metz-Thevenod, EVP marketing & Digital duty free at Lagardère Travel Retail. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who served from 2007 to 2016. He will be addressing the new global landscape at a time when the need for a calm leadership has never been greater. Also speaking will be Mary Robinson, the first female president of Ireland and one of the country’s most respected public figures. As well as serving s UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1997 to 2002, Ms Robinson has worked endlessly to promote human rights and end poverty worldwide, earning her numerous honours and awards including the US Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009. A particularly appropriate speaker as TFWA launches Digital Village is David Rowan, editor-at-large at the trends magazine Wired UK. He will be looking at the duty free and travel retail industry from the viewpoint of a tech start-up and analysing how advances in technology will transform traveller behaviour.
The conference will once again be moderated by Stephen Sackur, British journalist and TV presenter. This is the 70th anniversary of the duty free and travel retail industry and the speakers are, according to Erik Juul-Mortensen TFWA President, “Especially well placed to explain the forces that will shape out industry and landscape in the future… It is more important than ever that we celebrate our history, but also equip ourselves for the challenges of the years and decades to come.”

BUSINESS GROWTH FOR NATURAL PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS MARKET The UK market for natural & organic personal care products has been growing at a healthy rate. A new report by Ecovia Intelligence (formerly known as Organic Monitor) shows sales revenues have increased by almost 30% since 2012. Natural hair care are the most popular products, with the market share now at 5 percent of total hair care products. Market growth rates are slowing however because of the uncertain political and economic climate, partly caused by the Brexit vote. The depreciation of Sterling in the foreign exchange is leading to higher prices of natural & organic personal care products. Retailers are also becoming more cautious in introducing and / or expanding natural & organic personal care product ranges. Consumer concerns about synthetic chemicals in cosmetics & toiletries is the major driver of market growth. Consumers are buying natural & organic personal care products as they are perceived to have lower health risks. Another major driver is distribution; these products have been making headway in conventional retail channels, such as department stores, beauty retailers and chemists. Most sales however are from health food shops and organic food retailers. Certification is becoming more important in the UK natural & organic personal care products. The research shows that about a third of all natural & organic personal care products are now certified; the Soil Association / COSMOS standard is most popular with UK brands. Ethical labels are becoming more visible on products; apart from natural & organic, a growing number of products are carrying Vegan Society, Fairtrade, and related labels. The UK is the one of the largest and most competitive markets for natural & organic personal care products in Europe. SIMONE ANDREOLI: A FRAGRANCE IN CELEBRATION OF BERGAMOT Or du Sillage, the latest creation by the youngest perfumer in Italy, merges the essence of the precious citrus notes of bergamot with Mediterranean aromas to evoke a holiday on the French Riviera.
