OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark The love of God is beyond our comprehension. God is Love means we are beneficiaries of the ways God’s Love gives, nurtures, heals, restores, reconciles, sustains and renews our lives, a generosity which we can appreciate and respond to. This is true faith: accepting, appreciating and responding to Love. God’s generosity fills the pages of Scripture; it is the true source of hope in facing the challenges, dilemmas and contradictions found in life. Our pilgrimage on earth is the freedom we are given because it is Love Who sets us free! Yes, it is a mystery beyond us, yet an experience compelling us to respond in kind. The Book of Genesis (1st reading) strives to say this in the stories of Creation and the Covenant God makes with the entire human family, beginning to end, beginning with Abraham. Genesis condenses human history in the stories of Abraham and his descendant stories of God’s Faithfulness and human frailty, our unwillingness to do what God desires. Sodom and Gomorrah (1st reading) are cities where people have pursued wealth, power, pleasure, debasing themselves in sin. Abraham pleads for the innocent people praising God’s justice. God abides with the bargaining: He will not destroy if there are 50, then 40, 30, 20 and finally 10 innocents there. The horrendous destruction tells the truth: no innocent people! St. Paul (2nd reading) reaffirms this truth: we have all sinned and are saved, redeemed, by God’s Love and not our personal merits. Thus, “we were buried with Him in Baptism and rise to life through faith in the power (Love) of God.” Beyond our understanding, yet compelling us to reply. Jesus teaches us the Lord’s prayer (Gospel) as incentive to live faithfully. “Ask and we will receive; seek and we will find; knock and the door will open.” Jesus concludes this life-giving truth reminding us: “if we sinners are capable of giving food gifts to our children, how much more will God give the Holy Spirit (life) to those who ask?” The truth is found in what we ask for. If it is wealth, health, success, control, etc., it truly isn't a prayer. If it is to live God’s truth Weekly Offering and share God’s love in July 20 & 21 = $3,954.00 our daily lives, $290.00 = Pinned on commitments and relationships, the prayer is Our Lady of Mount Carmel answered. The Holy Spirit 2nd COLLECTION: inspires us to live our Aug 3 & 4 (after Communion) prayer, trusting in a Annual Mission Appeal for compassionate, benevolent Team Africa Ties that Bind and generous God Whom for Archdiocese of we find present in each Gulu, Uganda other and all we do.
