HELLO MYSTICS! So close to the break, I can taste it! Hope you all are enjoying the first semester of this year so far! It’s wild how fast it has gone by already! Would just like to take this time to thank all the volunteers who took part in our Haunted House on Oct 26th! So happy with the event, and it could not have happened without your commitment! We raised around $1800, which will go towards our new Odd Jobs Program out of the Students’ Union! Keep on the lookout as we will soon post out opportunities for YOU to make a bit of pocket change! Big thing happening this month is MOVEMBER! That’s right, it’s where I and other Mo-Bros will grow out (or TRY to grow out in my case) our facial hair to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer, and mental health initiatives! Same as last year, we Mo-Bros are growing out everything, not just the stache, and collecting pledges for what YOU want us to shave at the end of the month! Maybe you want us to shave it into a half-beard, or the Heisenberg, or the Iron Man (my favourite)! You may be saying, “wait, I’m a girl, I can’t grow facial hair, what about me?” You absolutely can participate in our campaign as a Mo-Sista, raising pledges for what you want to see your Mo-Bros shave to!

3rd Annual GATHERING OF MINDFUL PROFESSIONALS November 14-16, 2013 Rosaria Multi-purpose Room Theme: The Contemplative Roots of Compassion This GATHERING will bring together a diverse group of people who are involved with the application of mindfulness throughout our local society. It will also provide an opportunity for us to practice mindfulness, and related practices, together. Thursday evening (Nov 14) - a unique and exciting panel of contemplative practitioners from Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Mi’kmaq and Buddhist traditions who will explore with us the nature of compassion and its relationship to mindfulness. Friday - focus on compassion in action with interactive / experiential presentations on (1) the development of open mindfulness groups in the community, (2) the Waves of Compassion organization and its activities to make Halifax a Compassionate City, and (3) the emerging field of Compassion Training. There will be time as well during the day for periods of mindfulness practice and for networking among the conference participants, not to mention a tasty and healthy lunch. Saturday morning - a creative treat with three young contemplative artists leading us through the experiences and applications of mindfulness in music, theatre and the visual arts. In the final hour, before the conference ends at 1pm, four local leaders in applied mindfulness will share their visions for the coming year. CAMPUS UPDATES Spiritual Life Continued… Peace Room Etiquette: Please follow these guidelines of respect and appreciation People are invited to come in quietly to pray, meditate, read, reflect, sit and just be. Respect the silence. No scents. It is preferred is you remove your shoes as you come in the Peace Room. Occasionally, there may be a special session, worship or meeting held during the day, that is related to the purpose of the Peace Room. Generally, however, the room will be in quiet, with events starting after 4:30, or on the weekend. Check out the bulletin board located right outside of the Peace Room to see what is happening. Some upcoming events are: Intro to Meditation (see the attached poster) Calm Abiding Meditation (see attached poster) Mount CARES (Compassion Appreciation Relationships Engagement & Service) A new Mount initiative encouraging students, faculty and staff to foster a more caring university campus. Here’s a snapshot of what we might do this year: Explore: What is compassion? Appreciation? Engagement? etc. What do they mean to different cultures, religions, genders, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, abilities, etc.? How and where is compassion happening at the Mount? How could it happen more? Encourage and facilitate the Mount to publicly commit to intentionally being a Compassionate University – the first in Canada! Welcome the support of the Inspirit Foundation and be part of their new Canadian initiative called the Campus Animation Project!
