2011-12 SEASON OUTLOOK

The Lady Vols have proven their capability since the women’s golf program was added at Tennessee in 1993. The Orange and White has built a tradition of exellence, reaching the NCAA Championship in each of the last three seasons and making ten trips overall. The Lady Vols have finished every season in program history inside the postseason poll top 25.

“We have a very strong team this year, probably the strongest team we have ever had. We have an incredibly strong schedule as well. Our four tournaments in the fall all have good fields, all have strong teams.”

PAVÓN SAYS:

The 2011-12 Lady Vols combine for 11 years of experience entering the season. Senior Nathalie Mansson and junior Erica Popson have combined to nab five All-America awards in 2010-11.

“I’m expecting a lot from our team. If we are ever going to do anything, this is the year to do it. There is no team in the country that you would say is absolutely better than our team. We need to have top-three or four finishes through all of these strong tournaments in the fall to put us where we need to be.”

The Golf World-NGCA preseason coaches poll has the 2011-12 Lady Vols ranked No. 11 in the country. The Big Orange team is coming off a 13th-place finish in the NCAA Championship in the spring of 2011 and returns all five players from last year’s postseason lineup.

Additionally, Tennessee returns sophomores Kaitlyn Rohrback and Chessey Thomas who gained postseason experience last spring. The Orange and White alsso adds freshman AJ Newell to the lineup, the number nine recruit in the class of 2011.

 ON AN EXCITING SCHEDULE... “I am really excited for this season because the talent that we have on this team is just unbelievable but also for the schedule that we get to play. These kids are going to compete week-in and week-out against all great teams.”

“Our team needs really start believing that we can beat the best teams in the country and the only way to believe it is to start doing it. We can’t make excuses for poor performances. We have got to come out and play strong. This schedule will really beat us up if we get down on ourselves and we don’t step up and do what we are capable of doing.”

THE NUMBERS SAY:

The Lady Vols’ schedule consists of four fall tournaments and four spring contests before heading into postseason play. Tennessee will play host to the Mercedes-Benz SEC/Pac-12 Championship in October.

The Lady Vols will match up against strong fields in the fall as two of their fall tournaments will be hosted by teams in the preseason top 25: the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview (Vanderbilt, No. 15) and the Tar Heel Invitational (North Carolina, No. 9).
