Remote Networked Schools Project In the Spring of 2011, Marta Valle hosted a visit from the Minster of Education of Quebec, who was interested in learning about our work integrating technology into our instructional program. As an outcome of that initial meeting, MVHS was invited to partner with schools internationally in the Remote Networked Schools Project. Tracy Karas (MVHS Library Media Specialist) and Robin Paletti (MVHS Lead Literacy Teacher were invited to visit Quebec during August, 2011 to attend the International Remote Networked Schools Annual Conference, and planning began for an exciting international collaboration between our teachers and teachers in schools in Quebec and Mexico. On May 24, we hosted a visit from Ecole Secondaire Louis-Jacques Casault in which over 100 students, ten teachers, and representatives from the Quebec Government Office in NY participated. Our visitors toured MVHS, learned about the history of MVHS and the Lower East Side, and participated in team building activities facilitated by Community Coordinator Dexter Hannibal, Physical Education teacher Eileen Feil and our Senior Peer Mentors. They were extremely impressed with our school, our educational team, and our students!! Congratulations, MVHS!

The State of the Arts at Marta Valle Drama

On Friday May 25,2012 Ms. Klein and Mr. Singh took sophomore and senior students on an unbelievable trip! They attended a private screening at Lincoln Center Library of a 1992 Broadway performance of August Wilson's "Two Trains Running". After a delicious breakfast out the students were led into a private screening room to watch the tape of the play. During the intermission they discussed how amazed they were at how much more they understood about the play's themes and metaphors by seeing them off the written page. The play was almost three hours long and no one even noticed the time! Lincoln Center Library has copies of almost all Broadway performances available for schools o see. Next Year Ms. Klein will be taking drama students to see one August Wilson play each month to see his complete 10 play cycle. Hopefully, all English teachers will take advantage of this amazing opportunity to bring Broadway theatre into their classrooms.

Visual Arts Art teacher Joan Meyers held her Annual student art exhibit and the National Arts Club located at 15 Gramercy Park South on Thursday May 31st . This eleventh student art exhibit was presented between 6:00 & 8:00 PM.

Music teacher Mr. Rizzo along with Mr. Santagato is planning an student open mike to be hosted in June. This will allow for students and teachers to enjoy a café style amateur afternoon in the auditorium

Culinary Arts Alicia Sanchez our culinary chef is currently working with four freshman students and training them for future C-Cap Culinary competition. Alicia is also working on teaching students how to make complicated but fun French pastries during class time.

Video Production Mr. Dougherty our video production teacher will be presenting a film created by a Marta Valle sophomore student Ché Morell. The theme of the movie will be focused on cyber bullying and take place in June. Jermaine Amaquandoh will present his film piece that will also highlight the dangers of physical bullying.
