School Leaders and Guests: Welcome to the 2014 Leadership Conference! We’ve chosen the theme “Vision, Mindset, GRIT!” to show that successful boards work together as a team with a common vision to set a path for outstanding schools and students. MSBA’s 93rd Annual Leadership Conference is full of information and inspiration to help school leaders focus on how to improve as a team and to provide the best education your board can offer to students. Whether it is learning through workshops, gathering inspiration from a keynote speaker or finding new ideas simply from connecting with other board members around the state, you will come away with the knowledge and motivation to show that your district has the extraordinary leaders to succeed. Once again, the Minneapolis Convention Center is home to the Leadership Conference. You will find maps in the program insert to help you navigate the space. On Level One, you will find general and exhibitor registration areas, Thursday and Friday general sessions, workshops, and the Exhibit Hall, along with Show & Tell. On Level Two, you will find the Recognition Luncheon and additional workshops. If you’re feeling lost, look for MSBA staff or board members. They’re wearing the gold state of Minnesota badges, and they’re here to help! New this year: The Minnesota Department of Education will be offering a free session before the conference to share what board members need to know about the World’s Best Workforce legislation and its impact on schools. It will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hilton Hotel. Your Association is also proud to offer a 2:30 p.m. Thursday workshop session by Superintendent of the

Year Kate Maguire of Osseo, followed by a 3:45 p.m. Thursday workshop session by Teacher of the Year Megan Hall of St. Paul. MSBA would like to thank Stahl Construction for helping to cover the costs of offering participants free wi-fi access at our conference. Our Network name is MSBA2014, with the password of StahlConstruction. We hope that you follow proper Internet etiquette by turning off your devices when listening to our workshop speakers, or stepping out into the hallway to take calls or texts. Be sure to check out our Exhibit Hall and see more than 200 exhibitors who provide services to Minnesota school districts. MSBA is able to offer our Leadership Conference without a registration fee because these exhibitors help cover the cost of the conference. Our Exhibit Hall is also where our Show & Tell presentations and Friday Round Table sessions are held. MSBA will be holding a raffle for a complimentary hotel room for the 2015 conference. Note the deadline to enter is 9:15 a.m. Friday. The winner will be announced during Friday’s general session, and you must be present to win. Details are on the insert page. Finally, we want to recognize our conference sponsors for helping make this event possible. The 2014 Leadership Conference sponsors include MSBAIT; Ehlers; National Insurance Services; Nexus Solutions; PreferredOne; Sodexo; and Stahl Construction. Representatives from these organizations are wearing teal ribbons—please let them know you appreciate their support. Thanks for being with us. We are proud to work for Minnesota’s public school leaders! Your Conference Planning Team
