Sante Fe Museum academic work Sante Fe, New Mexico, USA

The circle - such a common shape, but the hardest shape to form artificially. Nature on the other hand, is able to make this shape seamlessly, and does so - over and over again. It is not a coincidence that Swartz uses circles as one of his primary shapes in his scheme. This shape is very important to the modern Puebloans (Sante Fe natives). It is a shape that they frequently use in their religious building designs, such as the kiva. The Puebloans believe that as humans, we are not separate from nature but we are one with it. My goal is to represent this in my building - allowing it to seem as if the architecture is deriving directly from nature or the earth - as all things do. The use of circles in the park district represent nodes and edges. I will adopt this same language in my design. Architectural Design

Process:

6 Circles used for natural light wells, outdoor gardens, and movement

To achieve this, I have submerged the building 14’ into the ground. The use of circles as nodes and edges in my design are used as light wells, movement, and connection to the outdoors. I have also placed a central circle as the plaza connecting the two parcels. In addition to this, with the use of meticulously calculated overhangs and glazing, the museum will look like it is a mass hovering over the Earth further emphasizing the connection of the artificial plaza with the natural park environment.

Newark Public School academic work Newark, New Jersey, USA

The Newark Public School was designed based on the cononcept of the L-shaped classroom. This type of classroom supupports flexible, integrated and variable activity settings. The core re spaces of my design are open for public use and accessible le olfrom the new proposed street. The design was based on collaborative learning with the main hall as the focal point and by providing various accesses to the community.

Botanical Gardens academic work Florence, Italy - Arno River

The city of Florence is divided by the Arno River. Today, the community can enjoy relaxing walks along the Arno and it is also a wonderful location to be with family and friends. However, it is not what it used to be. According to statistics, the untreated wastewater and household sewage of approximately 140,000 residents in Florence, Scandicci, and Bagno a Ripoli is currently dumped directly into the Arno River. In the past, the riverbanks were occupied by people for not only relaxation but also for bathing, fishing, or swimming and many other leisurely activities. My ultimate goal for this design is to revive the local people’s relationship with the river and bring it back to the community.

The urban wall will extend from the community and urban space and bring it into the river. This wall will simultaneously block out the contaminated Arno River and also allow pure, filtered, water over the spillway to the island. The interior botanical gardens will be an extrusion of this wall and this, along with the exterior gardens, will appear to be an island or a ship in the water - with the Arno River to the south and the pure water to the north.
