2012-13 SKYLINE SPARTANS BOYS BASKETBALL

“What you have, give…. What you save, you lose.” Coach Bruce Brown

WELCOME TO 2012-13 SKYLINE SPARTAN BOYS BASKETBALL Welcome Spartan Hoop Family, I am very excited to be starting my first season as the boy’s head coach of the Skyline Spartans! My goal as a coach is to develop young men of character and help them build a foundation for life. We ask that our kids commit to a certain standard and in turn we are willing to hold each other accountable to that standard. The competitive nature and selflessness that you witness on the court should also be visible in the classroom and away from the team. Our players have shown a tremendous work-ethic in the off-season workouts and I am excited to watch them grow and compete as a team. There is a championship culture and tradition at Skyline High School and I am proud to be a part of it. The administrative support has been amazing and the parents have dedicated endless hours to make this 2012-2013 season a special one. I am also proud to report that the Skyline Basketball Booster Club has grown strong in volunteer support and the leadership thus far has been world-class. One component that is crucial to building a powerhouse program is a strong feeder program. I can say with complete confidence that our Skyline Select organization is as strong as any in the state. The future of our program is in good hands when you look at the quality of coaching and leadership at the youth level. All in all, this season should prove to be exciting! We hope that your experience in the Spartan Gym is a positive one and we appreciate your support as a fan.

Maui Borden

Head Boys Coach

Teamwork is the fuel that produces uncommon results in common people . . no where is this more evident than on our basketball teams where individuals come together to hone each other’s skill to make the whole team better. On the court athletes on the floor must work with each other to score points on offense and to create an impenetrable defense. It is where a team learns about individual strengths and plays to exploit those while protecting against the individual weaknesses so that no large holes are exposed. In basketball one quickly realizes that no one individual can win the game alone—someone needs to assist, set up a play, or bring up the ball. The athletes use physicality, discipline, repetition, communication, intuition, mental strength, positive attitudes, and sacrifice as individuals to weave together a team effort that showcases the Spartans as teams to be reckoned with— Welcome to Spartan Basketball!

OFF THE COURT ASSISTANCE PERFORMANCE TRAINING Kevin Chiles has been assisting athletes at Skyline since 2004. His programs continually evolve and include pre-season as well as in-season sessions. Focusing on jumping and explosive endurance combined with motivation, strength and agility, helps the Skyline basketball players immensely. Desean Harrell has joined Kevin’s team to help coordinate the sessions when seasons between sports overlap.

While it is impossible to list the names of all those who help, we hope this recognition of your efforts will at least be a small THANK YOU from the players, coaches and fans who enjoy the game.
