Nothing is happening at this stage Why is the rock bare? Because a volcano just erupted And now the lava is cooling and turning into rock

Additional info to include about this stage: There is nothing in this stage at all just bare rock


Primary Succession Stage 1: Pioneer Species

Insert an IMAGE of what things would look like at this stage‌ What types animals and plants would be present? Ensure you label key elements of your image: plant/animal names, trophic levels, etc E.g. Lichen, trophic levels, etc.

Lichen have started to grow onto the lava rock a little while after it cooled, the lichen are starting to eat the rock and make it into soil.

Additional info to include about this stage: -what is the soil like? Not very deep -species diversity? Only 1 species, lichen -trophic levels only 1 -niches? Very few -nutrient cycling? Simple

Stage 2: Early Colonizers

Mosses begin to grow, they die and decay with adds nutrients to the soil then little insects begin to grow.

Shrubs and grasses are starting to grow because the oil can hold more water now

Tall trees are starting to grow , animals are starting to move in or get food or water from it.

Disturbance

Natural disasters can happen and stop the succesion from happening and will hold back.

Seeds maybe will be carried by a animal and spread around to grow back or blown by the wind . Very fast because resources are already there. Refer pg 114
